But then again I didnt choose any drivers. Should I do the kext method or should I try to reinstall? The only problem with the kext is that I dont know how to do it. Well just wanted to share my joy. Oh just as a reference I had my lan connected and disconnected it this time and the install went through. I dont know if that was the reason though. I will try to put my specs on my sig. FLaCo305
Thank you for the reply! I burned it in 1x . Toast then verified it and it was successful. Hehe, sorry I meant the burn was successful...not the installation. It is still giving me trouble. The Milkman
I installed Zephroth 10.5.2 and the install went flawless. Booted up access the internet and had sound. Kudos to Zephyroth for the spotless install. My hardware is listed below. Abit KN8 nForce 4 board Opteron 170 Nvidia Gigabyte LAN I Can't find information on my sound 7600GS Nvidia Video Card (I think) Now on to the problem. I get Kernel panics. As I've observed them the last couple of days and did some research on what problem I might be having, it seems to revolve around when I use the LAN adapter. I tried to import my iTunes music, some 9,000 files on a NAS and it will never run to completion. If I transfer a large number of photos from the same NAS I will have issues. Downloading a torrent I will also have issues. I updated the cpuids with Marvin and that seems to have made things better, but I am still restarting 2-3 times a day. Anyone have any thoughts on the problem or how I might troubleshoot it better? Thanks again for the release Zephyroth! FLaCo305
Is the reason why I can't get past the gray apple logo that tells me to restart, because I am using a hard drive with WINDOWS xp on it. I tried chaging around the jumpers on my IDE dvd rom and nothing. I still get the com.apple.Boot.plist not found at the end. Thank you. StevoJD
Everything working great, except for one problem... (I know this is common, and I've googled this a {censored} load) I can only boot into Leopard with the DVD inside the drive. I've tried changing the boot flag to "boot" using Ubuntu, but when I do so, I get an HFS+ Partition error. Also, there's 2 partitions that Ubuntu recognizes, the "boot" partition is about 100mb, I forget what it's called. Should I delete that 100mb partition, and set OS X as the main boot partition? I'm stuck, I've tried a lot of terminal things and nothing is working.... I'm using OS X only, no Windows. Edit: Nevermind, FIXED. Thanks anyways. Just make a new partition of atleast 20gb using paragon partition manager its the best . then just format it to fat32 and when the MacOSX DVD boots up go to utilities and then Disk Utility and format the partition u made to mac Journaled extended blah blah...... and walla . MAke sure u use the MBR method upon install since ur using windows. Zaxboi
COMPAQ V5000Z SB450 AppleATIIXPATA disappearing trick Well I had some seemingly false hope here with the aforementioned laptop. The 10.5.2rev1 DVD booted up, saw the SB450 based IDE in bus mastering mode seeing both the RTL8139 onboard ethernet and Broadcom Wifi chip, came up to the GUI, Disk Utility allowed me to partition the disk, do the install, everything seemed grand. I was sure to click the "VIA + SB" kext package under chipsets and have verified it was installed. Have tired both the Toh 9.1.0 and 9.2.0 kernels. Upon initial bootup after the install the AppleATIIXPATA driver refuses to load AS IT DOES PERFECTLY under the DVD boot process! Very frustrating! I went and indeed found that the AppleOnboardPCATA package with the SB450 IDE support is indeed there (booting from the DVD again and using TERMINAL to hunt around) and a reference to its kernel dependency is noted on the disk bootup with "-v". However it doesn't actually load the kext while booting from the disk resulting in a premature halt to the boot process with the dreaded "waiting for boot device." So why does the DVD boot process see it and use it just fine but the resulting installation fail to see it? I even went and got the original AppleATIIXPATA/OnboardPCATA package and installed it independently at the top of /System/Library/Extensions to no avail using the DVD boot GUI->TERMINAL. Tried the 9.1.0 kernel to no avail. Tried even going back to the 10.4.5 IOPCIFamily to no avail. Ideas? JorgeCCastro
I also have a 3870. The newest Natit requires Leopard graphics update, so install that first. After installing natit.kext, I get the blue screen with a cursor of death =(. This is a Leopard graphics update issue, not a natit issue. People on legit Macs with ATI cards are having the same problem. Right now, I can have QE/CI and be unable to get past blue screen, or not have QE/CI and have everything work fine Zephyroth is working on a PPF patch for this DVD. When the patch is finished and released, it should include out of the box 3870 support (the drivers in the current release are not installed correctly), that means you don't have to install Leopard graphics update and everything should work. I'll let you know if I find a fix in the mean time hi, there... just wanted to tell you guys that i got everything up and running, including full QE/CI support on my ATI 3870. it does need the Graphics update from Apple, with the latest Natit it's working great. at first i was using the ATI drivers that the DVD offers but, now i installed with no graphics drivers, and just updated and installed Natit with Kext Helper... anyway thanks for the input... oh, by the way, i've been using Marvin's AMD Utility on the root of the Mac HD, and it fixed some openGL files, so... i don't know if that helped anything but either way, every time i install anything i run it on the hole HDD... been fixing 3 or 4 files at a time... fixed iLife08 and the openGL files i mentioned earlier... Thanks to Zephyroth, great work all around... skinrock
Tried using the "flat image" install...every time I tried booting into it, it restarted. So I tried Zephyroth's 10.5.2 image. Burned it, booted into it, and upgraded my Leopard install to 10.5.2. I selected the nVidia drivers (ktexts? and the 258mb driver). Install went smoothly, restarted, takes me through the initial white apple screen, but then then a black desktop (apple's mouse cursor shows), just never goes beyond that. Tried installing it again, wiped out the whole hdd to do a fresh install. Selected both SSE3 kernels. Got stuck on the white apple screen, it loads for a few seconds, and then displays that circle with a slash through it, almost looks like a broken image. Chris posted this on the first page. Tried using just the newer SSE3 kernel the third time. Same thing. Specs are in my sig, my CPU does support SSE3. Memzee
Hi, I'm trying to install this on a 20GB partition on my hard drive. I don't think I have any problems with the DVD as it has been verified, and I have no problem installing. The problem comes after the restart where it doesn't seem to complete. My specs are: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (MMX+, 3DNow!+, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, x86-64 ASUSTeK A8N-E Motherboard (nVidia nForce 4 Chipset) nVidia GeForce 6800 LE graphics card Maxtor 6L250S0 ATA-133 250GB HD DDR-400 1024MB RAM Can someone give me an idea of what combination I should use when customising the installation? I've tried the newest SSE3 kernel with both GFUID and MBR partition boot things and it restarts, and then I get a black screen for approx 13 secs, then grey screen showing the black arrow that blinks for a second, and then black screen for another 13 seconds etc. Thanks. skinrock
Update: I'm posting while in OSX right now. Used the Zephyroth install. I didn't even notice the chipsets tree node, where I found the nForce4 chipset. So my working install was: Newer SSE3 Kernel nForce4 Chipset nVidia + 256 meg driver forcedeth LAN And I think that's it. Known issues: D-Link wifi card doesn't seem to work. Big issue for me: iPhone dock doesn't work. My keyboard and mouse are USB, and even my sound is through USB, which all work fine. iPhone dock doesn't charge my phone, nor does it connect to OSX. Any ideas? lateralusman
try to change you IDE HD from Master to Slave or from Slave to Master! and see if you can see it under disk utility. don't worry about you can't see the DVD you need to see your HD for now. Memzee
Update: OK I think I've made progress because I get a restart after installation.. as it boots up though, if the DVD is inserted it just progresses back to start installation all over again, if I take it out I get "Error loading operating system" and it just stops there. I've also noticed that the partition that I have installed the OS on doesn't show up in the Startup utility in installation.. I just get the DVD and a network disk.. Please help! I've been trying to get a hackintosh running back since 10.4.6! Before i did anything, i went to the Extensions folder and removed all kexts ATI and all kexts nVidia and Geforce... that way i made sure there was no confusion... Then i installed Natit, but it didn't give me QE/CI just fixed my resolution, then i ran the Software Updater to get the Graphics Update from Apple, because before i installed Natit the graphics update wouldn't come up... so... after the update it was working great... about Marvin's Utility, i just run it every time i install any software (including kexts) and patch any files it says needs patching... Nandu
Here's my report after 5 days: System -AMD Athlon X2 4200 (S939) -2 gb RAM (DDR400) -Abit KN8-SLI (nForce 4 with ALC850 sound, which works like a charm) -640 mb GeForce 8800 GTS (G80, works perfectly at 1920x1200 with CI and QE) -250 gb SATA2 hard drive (works perfectly) -BenQ DW1650 DVD-burner (IDE, works most of the time) Stuff I chose during the installation: ToH Kernel 9.20, EFI+MBR bootloader, nForce drivers, Forcedeth LAN driver, AC97 driver, Nvidia kexts + NVInject 640 mb Installation took about 20 minutes without any hitches, and everything works quite well. iLife '08 apps kept crashing like crazy, but Marvin's AMD utility fixed them Few oddities: My DVD drive goes MIA on rare occasions (a reboot fixes it), and I seem to get couple of random kernel panics when surfing the web. And yesterday all the mouseover-effects suddenly stopped working (like dock labels, X-+ symbols on the window glyphs, menu highlights etc), it seemed to got fixed by installing Logitech mouse drivers, however thanks to those drivers, Exposé is now behaving a bit badly (I get weird flashing with it when placing a cursor over a window) Overall, I'm very happy with this! Thank you Zephyroth! shurabas
Here's my Report: System: AMD64 3000+ MSI K9N Neo Rev 1.0 (MS-7260) Chipset Nforce 550 1 gb RAM ddr2 667 Asus 7500LE 128mb Toshiba IDE DVDRW 80gb Maxtor IDE 7200 Items I ticked in the Zephyroth DVD: Kernel 9.2, EFI MBR, nforce drivers, Forcedeth, Nvidiakext, NVInject 128mb I didn't tick the audio because when I booted up it had problems. I used Tagura's 1.20 HDA patcher and it worked. Almost everything works EXCEPT: LAN: I have an Nforce LAN .. and it works. However, If I go to windows, from mac, and Go BACK to mac, Ethernet will not work anymore. It gives me an IP of 169 .. instead of 192 (I have a router) To fix this, I have to literally unplug the power cord of my System for 1 minute, replug it and boot to Mac. I have to do this EVERY TIME, if I boot from Windows. Moreover, If I just boot directly from mac everytime, I dont need to do the uplug powercord thinggy. Is there a fix for the nforce lan issue? I read other post of people having the same problem. BOOT TIME: From the point I see darwin bootloader (10 second countdown) and hit ENTER .. it takes me 2 minutes to reach the desktop. I have an intel hack that takes me in the desktop in 20-25 seconds .. I checked in verbose mode and It doesnt give any error. Is this because I have IDE? WEIRD: Earlier this morning, I reformatted my HDD and tried to reinstall Zephyroth again (same exact system). But this time, it didn't boot from the DVD. Last week it did (4 times). I didn't mess up with the BIOS or anything. I didn't put any new devices in my system. My system was sealed and I did not open it to do some modifications. For some reason, it just won't boot up anymore. "Still waiting for root device" ... I have two IDE devices. IT WAS WORKING LAST WEEK!!! I reset the CMOS just in case something happened .. but it still didnt boot. I solved the problem by switching my DVDRW (master) to slave and my HDD from slave to master (I only have 1 ide port) .. this is the first time I touched primary/slave positions of my devices. If that is the cause, how come it worked last week? Could anyone explain why my system behaved like that? And Zephyroth .. youre the best!!! Thanks you OSX86 Community and Zephyroth .. Don't worry, I won't use omnislash on you Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/88226-zephyroth-leopard-1052-for-amd-succes-or-problem-thread/page/14/#findComment-661291 Share on other sites
