Also how you used Vista Bootloader to boot (from your 1st Hackintosh)? Is there 1 HDD with all three partitions in a row and VistaBootLoader enabled? I can't find the way make it recognized from the Vista bootloader.. should i give the partition a letter eg. M and add a new entry of this to Vista Boot Pro v3.3.0?Please help me if you can! Solow
Installed iATKOS 10.5.1 v1.0 ir2 on GA P35 DS3L, C2D 6550, 2 GB Buffalo Select 800 Mhz ram, Seagate 400 GB SATA & 160 GB WD PATA drive, PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-110D PATA, using this method. Everything works out of box except sound. Used MBR EFI Vanilla options. Thanks for the tutorial! Running this off the PATA drive for experimenting with 10.5.2 update. Updated to 10.5.2 using the method in the tutorial as well. Booted fine on second try. See screenie: By solow at 2008-02-13 Reports 2.33 GHZ C2D as 4 GHz, no info (error reported) on memory and system etc in the system profiler. I noticed a time machine icon in the taskbar that was not there before. I do not see my SATA drive show up on the desktopafter the update! It seems to run OK so far though on the PATA drive. Maybe this update needs a little more work. mohkahn
@mtotho: English not being my first language or perhaps I am too new to play with serious things on mac, I screwed up, just as I thought I would, during the update of 10.5.2. so here are my simple questions in blue and I hope you can just copy paste the whole message below in your reply and you can answer it with yes and No, if that makes it easier for you. thanks: 10.5.2 UPDATE 1.) Download the Update HERE (done, about 300 +MB in size and I burnt it to a disk using diskutility, hope it will be usable, once I reinstall the system?) yes / no?? 2.) Open terminal, Type in the following commands (before you start installation) CODEsudo -s (did it correctly) Type your password then press enter. Then type the following, then hit enter.(did it correctly)CODE while sleep 1; do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext; done (2 questions here) a) What is while sleep 1; does this part shows your name and mine will show mine? like mohkahn's macpro???? cos I actually dragged this whole sentence into terminal but without the last word (done)? If that's not the case..... then please confirm that I only need to put the code in terminal: exactly as below, with exact same spacing without the parentheses? : (do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext; done) I did not put the wording done after the above code? am I suppose to put (done) as well? or do u just mean to press enter after putting the above code? so you wrote... done?? i am now guessing, it should have been do--then the code-- & done... command... but it's already too late... so please clarify. thanks... After putting the code correctly, and once enter is hit, will something open or happen? a window, anything, what sort of things will I see happening, so I can know that my action is having a reaction? or will i just have to wait for few minutes? ** YOU MUST DO THIS STEP ABOVE!!! You CANNOT just delete it afterward. It WILL BREAK the install, and require a new install or restore from backup. 3.) Run the installer. (did it correctly) 4.) When it is finished DO NOT REBOOT. (it did not give me a choice, during half way, asked me to reboot in 3 languages, perhaps cos I did not do the above steps well?) 5.) Type the following command in a new terminal Window CODEsudo nano /System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/1 (should hit enter again, once I do another window will open, where I will be able to navigate to find the line as you wrote below?) 6.) Find the line with /System/Library/Extensions/Dont Steal Mac OS X.kext (and once found, how do I replace it with the following text as you are saying, simply by copying this text and deleting the old one in the above directly? and will this text appear in terminal window?) 7.) Replace it with: CODE/System/Library/Extensions/dsmos.kext ( Sorry for asking you so many perhaps simple and obvious questions.. but I really feel stupid playing with terminal every time and perhaps now I feel a bit scared of screwing up again, it takes a bit of time and effort to redo the whole thing.. so thanks for all the help. MOBO: P5Kc. ( DualVista / Kalyway) Graphic card: HD2400 (using kext from here, works on single mon, can change reslution, have sleep/shut down conflicts) HARD disks: 160gb (vista boot) set to boot first. HARD disk : 160gb (OSX boot) set to boot second. Sound: Works, yet to be tested with video. LAN: Attansic G1 gigabyte: does not work so far. LAN: WORKING: REALTEK 8139D PCI lan card. Buy, install and surf right away. MEMORY : 4gb, Assortment of 2 different brands. (working, no kernel panic, but not not done any heavy work on mac) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/83689-how-to-install-on-gigabyteasuscompatible-boards/page/13/#findComment-622138 Share on other sites
Solow
Mokahn, You need to open terminal, do the sudo -s command, hit enter, type in your password as asked, and then copy the whole script as has been written including the word "done" - that is type or copy this to the terminal "do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext; done" without the quotation marks. Hit enter. DO not close the terminal - leave it alone. then run the installer as directed - it should not reboot unless you click on the restart button. then click on terminal to make it active again. In the task bar at the top of your desktop you should see the list of commands for terminal. Click on the "file" command to see the drill down menu. Then click on "New Shell" to get another terminal running so you can leave the first one alone. In the new terminal type or copy "sudo nano /System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/1" without the quotation marks. Hit enter. This will start the text editor named nano and allow you to edit the file /scripts/1 with the editor. I used my arrow keys to move the cursor to the Dont Steal Mac OS X.kext and used backspace to remove that portion. I typed in dsmos.kext in it's place and hit control O to save the edited file as directed in the tutorial. Then I hit control x to quit the nano editor. NOW you can restart your machine from the updater installer window. It will close the first terminal as it restarts but that is OK. I hope this makes it clear. I restarted using the -x command to start in safe mode but it froze up. I restarted again normally and it booted up fine. Good luck! Bob The King
Installed the 10.5.2 update successfully + backed up my extensions. It seems to have my restart. Is any1 else having this problem/ found a solution? Also, I've successfully installed vista as a dual boot, however, when I select mac osx in the vista menu, it goes to the darwin bootloader, but vista is selected. How can I change this? catjesus
is that the tutorial on the page 1 of this topic? no, the tutorial on page 1 requires effort. I'm not sure why mto isn't updating to tell people about the kalyway updater. check the typical torrent locations... the reason for 2 files is that the kernel update is removed from the 10.5.2 updater incase you can't run the 10.5.2 kernel. deeno
I followed the guide and got my 10.5.2 update working. But here's what's strange, in 10.5.1, I had restart working, but shutdown didn't work and I couldn't get it to wake from sleep (not even by pressing the power button). Now with 10.5.2, Shutdown still doesn't work, Restart doesn't work anymore, but it wakes from sleep when I hit the power button, although when it wakes from sleep, there's this strange sound, almost like a heartbeat every 3 or 4 seconds. Wondering if anyone else noticed these or having the same issues. mtotho
IT Is against forums rule to post links to a torrent or something. Remove that link to the bay. Also.. the kalyway combo update is no easier or harder. (it actually is harder and takes longer). You have to type in TWO terminal commands (copy and paste) start the installer that you download at a much faster speed than a torrent.. then when install finishes, in a NEW terminal window type in the rest of the stuff i said. It isnt hard at all.. Also the kalyway update combo does not update the vanilla kernel.. so you need to separately download the 10.5.2 kernel and update manually. -I will have to look into the graphic update.. but i assume it just updates the kexts.. which is pointles for anyone with osx86. -my system profiler is screwed up to.. dont worry it doesnt reflect your actual specs. I know various ways to fix it.. i will find the easiest and post it here Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/83689-how-to-install-on-gigabyteasuscompatible-boards/page/13/#findComment-622836 Share on other sites

seanmcd
Ok currently I'm installing from scratch (again). The part you are leaving out of your updated guide Mtotho is backing up any kexts that may have been installed by the Kalyway install (or any custom kext you have installed). I can get the 10.5.2 update to install fine, but afterwards my restart is fuxored. (I can live without a proper shutdown, but not without the restart) So -the question is - what kexts do I definitely need to backup and then restore afterwards in order to retain my restart function when updating a fresh Kalyway 10.5.1 install to 10.5.2?? By the way the only one I know so far is backup (and restore post update) your AppleSMBIOS.kext to keep your cpu reporting the correct speed **EDIT*** (update) Ok started from scratch - and basically followed the suggestions here: Kext backup It ended up booting ok the second try after applying update, and then upon choosing restart, KP'd.. (at least it restarted) So - tried safe mode and repairing permissions, no go. Then tried safe mode and using kext helper to install AppleSMBIOS.kext and AppleACPIPlatform.kext, presto - working nearly perfect again (restart and sleep work again)!!! blackduke
something messed up. I followed your tutorial, and in the middle of installing the update, i'get the four language restart screen, and after restarting the computer stops before the screen where i can start it in safe mode. booting of a dvd to backup from the timemachine (hopefully). will keep you updated. Correct it doesn't update the vanilla kernel, but for some that is important... graphics update has made my system work better- I'm running ati 2600xt, the display sleep feature now works (Before it would not come back and I would have to reset my machine) and xbench is now 20 points higher for gpu related tests! So.. don't be so eager to dismiss it can anyone point me in the direction of the sleep-fixing kernel? yowhatupg
I have a problem booting 10.5.1, seemingly with the realtek Ethernet. clv101
I recently got a 500GB drive 2nd hand, a Seagate 7200.10. Couldn't work out how to clone my old install onto it so started from scratch. Following the tutorial worked well. I installed Kalyway 10.5.1 with GUID, then added 10.5.2 exactly as detailed at the top of the thread. LAN worked out of the box. Added the audio kext fine (alc889a), added video with the latest NVinject Installer, added the "maxmem" string to cap RAM to 3.5GB. To Do List: Whilst LAN worked out of the box and I can get on-line through my router with DHCP, Finder can't see my network shares. I can ping my Vista box but can't actually browse it through Finder. How do I fix this? "sudo shutdown -h now" does work to shut down the system, but I'd really like to be able to make it sleep. As anyone got this Gigabyte board to sleep and wakeup? Fix the "About This Mac". Guess I should do this, not really important though. The LAN and Sleep problems are a bit of a shame, other than that the system works great. My Xbench score is up from 156.15 to 165.95 thanks to faster hard drive mainly I think. rraleighh
Very nice reader-friendly guide, thank you! Is it correct to say, concerning mobo ga-p35-ds3l, that regardless of the installation there are still problems with - sleep/shutdown/reboot - full functionality of the built-in ethernet card? I am about to order a new system, but probably as all other users here I do not want to buy a machine which constantly runs into problems. I have an iBook g4 1.33ghz and I want to use it for a next one year and on the hand I would like to have an inexpensive intel-based Mac. However, in my view one of the key reasons to work with a Mac is stability and logical, predictable operating system. It is certainly tempting to build a HackPro instead of buing a Mac Mini for a similar amount of money, but in my case the second alternative is also quite reasonable and if no Hackintosh setup works well at the moment, I would prefer to either wait or just buy a Mini. I noticed that you have p5w mobo. Could you make a short comparison of these two motherboards? Is it a better solution?
