JRichland
I'm experiencing the grey kernel panic crash screen as well. I have a Q6600 at 2.4ghz, a PA5-DS3L mobo, 2x2GB sticks at 667mhz, an SATA DVD drive and an SATA 500GB hdd. I enabled AHCI in the bios and I'm experiencing fewer crashes, but I'd like it to not happen at all. I'm a bit inexperienced so I don't understand how to add the "maxmem=3072" string. Is that something I would do in terminal? Sorry, I know I'm a n00b. I've used this board like a bible getting this hackintosh going. Thanks for all the help. EDIT: I also think my RAM is running in single-channel mode. At least that is what it says at bootup. disneytoy
Question, I have a 120gb drive. I already have a 25gb XPpro partition. I've loaded the Leo DVD. When I go to Diskutility how can I make a Leo partition without destrowing the XP Pro? Or is that not possible? I've been able to choose Journalled, But options is greyed out so I have no control over GUID or MBR? What is the default? I'm actually 50% through the install. It probably wont work because I've missed some of the bios settings. But it is cool to see Leopard on my PC monitor. Peace out Max PS, my problem was with the OCZ memory I bought. Would not allow me to get into bios. disneytoy
Advice please. I get almost to the end buy the Right Lower "X" leg, and get Install Failed, Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer - The installer could not validate the contents of the "additionalFonts" package. Contact the software manufacturer for Assistance. Anyone get this too? I burnt the disk with Nero at 2.4X, the slowest setting. It boots up fine on a PATA DVD drive. fluffy69
argh. first of all, its awesome that you made this guide. i have a ga-p35-ds3 board with a q6600 processor. first i used the kalyway release and tryed to install from a PATA drive (old LG one) to a sata harddisk. i use the mbr partition scheme, since i have an old xp installation on my first partition. the installer reoprts a successfull install and reboots the machine. now my problem is, that after the reboot, the darwin bootloader doesnt show up. the only thing i see is a blinking cursor. i didnt set the bios option to sata-ahci. id i do so, the pata rom is no longer funtional as is my xp installation. if i set the ahci mode on, i get the "com.apple.boot.plist not found" error. i also tried installing from an iatkos release. the strange thing about that is, that it starts the installer from my pata drive but refuses to complete the installtion process. i tried to flash a new bios onto that board, but the the problem still remains. the bios versions i used are F5 and F12. the F12 bios is currently flashed on my board. do you have any suggestions on what i could do (besides trying to install from a sata dvd-rom) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/83689-how-to-install-on-gigabyteasuscompatible-boards/page/12/#findComment-617647 Share on other sites
mohkahn
@Mtotho, thanks for the advise.. I will give it a try, once I am done, done, downloading.. errr.. bittorrenting.. anyway, the card that you suggested seems to be a graphic card? does it also connect to the net? anyway, my HD2400pro is working so far so good, maybe not too stable for some features.. I stumbled upon the wiki (HCL) you introduced today, so it's a big timesaver, cos my problem is LAN not working and so I will buy a LAN card tomorrow (one from the recommended list) and use my mac to post you a message tomorrow. wish me luck. @Almost everyone: I am newbie like you, but after 10 days of hardwork, i finally am dual booting without any problem, so if you seem to be having problems installing / dual booting, please make note of the following: 1)Save & back your data to an external device and be prepared to install kalyway / vista / xp at least 3-5 times each before you get it right, so be patient and be consistent and be persistent, read read read as much as you can and remember to update your bios first and foremost before attempting any installs. I am new so I can't help you with most of your specific problems, but trust me most of them can be solved and they have been answered somewhere on this forum, so be prepared to read hard for it and I am sure you will find what ye seek. But if not.. Spend some money and buy a good rig, that will surely work.. you can compile a good rig's information from the HCL compatability list or from here: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph..._.28Ethernet.29 Best of luck to you all. MOBO: P5KC. ( DualVista / Kalyway) Graphic card: HD2400 (using kext from here, works on single mon, can change reslution, have sleep/shut down conflicts) HARD disks: 160gb (vista boot) set to boot first. HARD disk : 160gb (OSX boot) set to boot second. Sound: Works, yet to be tested with video. LAN: Attansic G1 gigabyte: does not work so far. I have bought a few dollar worth of LAN card, working on vista / not on kalyway. MEMORY : 4gb, Assortment of 2 different brands. thespottedelf
Just want to say all this stuff is awesome was reading and well... saw something that made me mad The problem with Leo is that its a 32 bit system and there for you WILL have problems with 8GB of ram. The most you can use with a 32bit system for now is 4GB of ram,to use more you'll need a 64bit system, you can try and install MAC OSX server but youll need to find the data on this forum regarding it since i have no knowledge about it at all. Leopard is 64bit.... if fact it can run 32 bit and 64 bit applications side by side. idk were you got that idea from.... (don't you watch apple keynotes?) mtotho
update 10.5.2 works fine with the tutorial on this forum.. and only with that tutorial. You cannot just update. catjesus
=*( It's not working! I have kalyway bootin from ide dvd (woo me), install goes through fine.. everything looks good. but on reboot, i just get a blue screen- the screen that should come up, but then a window (such as a login window) should come over. but this is not the case, its just aqua blue forever. Somehow messing around i got kalyway to boot correctly (and have been unable to reproduce this). During that time I tried to install the drivers for my ATI 2600xt... restarted, never got back in. Have reinstalled about 5 times now and keep trying to tinker around... anyone have any ideas or suggestions? is it possible to force VESA mode so I can atleast get into the machine to try and install kexts? I just tried loading the kexts from 10.5.2 in via the terminal via the install dvd, but it did nothing for me. I'd really appreciate any insight, and sorry this is slightly off topic but I am running the ds3l, q6600, et al. GPU: MSI rx2600xt 512mb div id ends in 9588, which is listed in the 10.5.2 kext. arthur7
Hi, do anyone know why i can't boot Leopard 10.5.1 (Kallyway patched DVD) after succesfull instalation on my external USB HDD WD Passport 80GB? I tried many combinations but nothing! I read an instalation guide to set my drive to GUID + MAC Extended (Journaled) if i was to install on a single HDD. Although i did this i could not boot Leopard. My latest installation was configured setting the drive to MBR + MAC Extended (Journaled) for file system but it doesn't boot. About the boot process.. i set in my bios to boot from my 80GB ext. HDD (cause i also have on my USBs a USB Stick of 2GB for transfering my files to my laptop and also another one ext. HD from Seagate of 500GB capacity for storing my downloaded files from internet. Internally my PC i have 2 same HDDs from Seagate of 250GB each, one for BACKUPS of all my personal staff and on the other i run two (2) Windows Vista partitions with different configuration to use the one for internet and the other for video, photography editing and designing.. So I boot my PC i hit F12 to bring me the boot-up menu, where i select USB HDD option (i already have set in my BIOS default to be my WD Passport 80GB USB drive - it is 2.5 inch drive which powerups by the USB port it is connected). But instead of loading Darwin boot loader or anything else i don't know well hot Leopard boots, it switches back to the Vista boot loader of my internal HD to choose 1st or 2nd partition of Vista! What i must do??? Should i set the installation partition of Leopard to FAT along with MBR boot option? What is more compatible? Is there anaccurate guide for Kallyway and some examples to learn how this OS behaves and works? fluffy69
If I'm not mistaken, the only way to install is via an SATA optical drive.... thanks for your suggestion. i found the soultion to my problem. its as stupid as its simple. i named the partition for the install "Hackintosh HD". some people on this forum claim, that the kalyway installer can encounter problems if you use a blank space in the name of the volume. now i named the partition "OSXHD" and everything worked out fine. so if anyone encouners the problem of a blinking cursor instead of the darwin bootloader: TRY RENAMING THE HD. btw: the installation form my pata dvd-rw drive went fine. upgrading to 10.5.2 didnt. i had to reinstall everything. i think ill wait till there is a new release. critic81
Just a quick update. I had originally done my install the way mtotho described with Kaly 10.5.1 and it all went great. I did the 10.5.2 update with the netkas method. When I rebooted, it hung on the apple screen with the circle indicator. I thought i was done but i just manually rebooted and it booted right in and had 10.5.2 working in all its glory. What I found was that the installer never froze, just that my reboot function just stopped working. I replaced my AppleSMBios.kext with my backup and that got my system profiler to detect everything ok again but didn't fix my reboot or shutdown. Reboot was working 100% in 10.5.1 and shutdown would work 50%. Any ideas on how to get reboot and shutdown back. ps: For people doing kext helper with AppleSMBios and finding it not working, make sure you remove the kext first with rm -rf then do kext helper. I have found that works best then just doing kext helper and not removing. @anibalin: I just put back AppleSMBios.kext and that was it. 10.5.2 killed my sound but i just redid the steps outlined in the first post of this thread and I was back in working order. mtotho
ok. I posted a guide for 10.5.2 update. It works fine. But you cant just update, you have to use the guide. It is in post 1. Let it be known that on the initial boot.. it doesnt work. Then after booting into safe mode (-x) you are able to get into safe mode. Then i just restarted and it worked normally. btw. I am posting from my Asus p5w DH deluxe on leopard. It works very nice.. and it is quicker on the same specs than the DS3L. I will add support for it later.. if anyone is interested. catjesus
kalyway now has an updater that preserves your sound/video/etc kexts, so it's completely effortless mtohto, im sorta mad at you... i probably would have bought the p5w instead of ds3l if you would have mentioned it sooner thanks for the guide though, everything seems to be working pretty well. if my comp goes to sleep or the video turns off, i have to reset are there known fixes? I'm sorry if it was mentioned, I've searched this thread 3490 times and didn't see it... I know something about F6 bios helping some problems? never confirmed? oh, and what settings did you use to OC your q6600 to 3ghz with the ds3l? any idea what temps you were running with that? sorry for all the questions thanks man!
