consolation
@Anybody. With AHCI enabled, your Sata hardrives turn into the external hard drive icon. (on osx86 anyway) You will need to edit AppleAHCIPort & IOAHCIFamily kexts with your device ids, at least that fixed it for me. Otherwise VIAATA took over and gave external drive status, and that causes issues with permissions down the road. EIDE optical drives work if the ide channel runs from a secondary controller (purple ports on gigabytes) which you can set to IDE mode. also, someone asked if one could use a microphone. Anything you can use on a mac, u can use on a pc, its not like a retarded brother. Also my webcam is hooked up to my leopard install. It has a microphone in it. Before i installed any drivers for it.. the microphone portion of it worked. It depends how well your sound is configured, not everyone gets a working line/mic in. Your camera's mic works because usb audio work oob. USB audio != onboard sound... Revolve
OK resolved my issue! dinner_plate
Firewire ports are very compatible with leopard.. but why in gods name would anyone ever use firewire (except for a true mac user who continually tries to convince themselves that it is better than USB 2)Rubbish. FireWire is undisputedly faster and more reliable than USB2. Unfortunately it is also more expensive and therefore less common. blackduke
can you help me to boot from a usb drive? i've tried to boot up from usb-hdd, usb-zip, usb-fdd and usb-cdrom. no try. i need to update the gfx bios, so i need to boot up some files, and since I don't have a floppy, can only do this. blackduke
so, the mbo doesn't treat him as usb-something, rather a normal drive. so, i have the usb bootable, i have atiflash installed, and i'm trying to change the bios as said on the wiki page, but i constantly get an error 'adapter not found'. It doesn't even know there's an ati card there. MacBookJoe
Great guide thankyou! I installed on a GigaByte-GA-P35-DQ6. couple of small issues. I was not able to install onto a IDE drive. so i followed your dual boot from the same HD. My RAM reads are 800mhz when its 1066mhz?? and my CPU is shown as unknown 2.66ghz shame, As I'm using the new E8200 intel. Overall i'm happy its fast as {censored}! cheers oh, my restart works great. Not tried shutdown yet. Joe. LilGator
Having a problem loading Leopard for the first time after install. I have a DS3L, E2160, 2GB, GeForce 8600GTS and two 7200.10 500GB's (among others, but these are unformatted and intended for OSX86). I have disabled all CPU thermal management in BIOS (2 places that I saw), SATA to native, and unplugged my ethernet cable. I'm actually using an IDE drive, but it is the same as the recommended on in the original post, just not the SATA version (LH-20A1H). I would assume if this was a problem, it wouldn't have loaded the DVD and installed to begin with. I did a fresh install and formatted the partition as GUID, and also selected GUID under customize. I have also tried the opposite, with MBR formatting and MBR selected under customize before install. In both cases booting the partition was no problem, but it would always freeze while loading (spinner on load screen stops indefinitely). Here are the results where it hangs with -V. (I left it like this overnight, it didn't do a thing- so it's not a lack of patience ) Under Customize I selected both options for Vanilla Kernel, the sound option for DS3, and NVInject for desktop GeForce, as well as GUID or MBR according to how I formatted. Any ideas? Only thing I haven't tried is AHCI, as my drives I intend to install to won't be visible. Also, should I try a different video card driver, or none? LilGator
After checking a few things out, I realized my IDE DVD drive is slave to another IDE HD. I took the HD off the cable, and made the IDE DVD drive the master. I also switched the two 500GB 7200.10's to the first 2 SATA ports and changed to AHCI. I also had forgetton to disable CPU Enhanced Halt in addition to the other two, that is disabled now. Third try, I'll let you know what happens... EDIT: Same deal as screenshot above. Trying no video driver now... EDIT2: Success with no video driver installed. Trying NVInject V.31. LAN so far does not work, it shows as cable unplugged (with it physically plugged in of course). Can anyone help me with this Bob, this doesn't sound like a Leopard issue. What voltage are you sending your memory? Is there any other overclocking going on? Sometimes, faster memory needs to have a higher voltage applied to it to get it to perform at the faster speeds. Some high-performance memory can take a range of voltages, say 1.8-2.1v. Depending on how much you give it, it will perform at different speeds and CAS timings. Look at your documentation or the OCZ support site to find out what range of voltages the memory can take. Change the voltages in your BIOS settings. TurboRegal
Hey man I tried following your guide, but as my post in the forums stated, it just didn't want to work out... http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=86006 I was just wondering if one possible reason for this may be the fact that I never set SATA to native? I found all the other options in the BIOS, I can't find this option anywhere in the BIOS, so I just assumed it wasn't there? I have a DS3L with F8a bios, e2160, 8800gt, 500gb SATA HD, 2GB OCZ ram, etc I can see the FAT32 partition fine, it's set as active/boot, but when I try to format it as MAC OS Journaled it throws an error (can't read it in time) and ends up as the default name, and is greyed out, and I can't mount it. I CAN however go back and reformat is as an FAT32 and it mounts fine again. ANY help is greatly appreciated as I now have a non-working computer! Thanks! Can anyone help me with this Well memory, very much like your processor, can be overclocked and underclocked. Your Bios, Windows, OSX, does not read that information incorrectly. You simply have the ratio for the memory incorrect, or the motherboard automatically lowers it. Go into the Intelligent Tweaker menu and change the memory ratio.. you may have to make the settings on manual mode. I assume you already know this information if you know anything about overclocking.. but then again, you asked. Look at this picture from post #1 http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...st&id=20919 The option is: System MEmory multiplier you may have to enable CPU Host clock control Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/83689-how-to-install-on-gigabyteasuscompatible-boards/page/8/#findComment-610596 Share on other sites

Perhaps if nothing else works, consider downgrading to F6. That's what I'm using and my install has been very good. chevy2410
If you enable ACHI then you will only see the first two SATA ports. Make sure your hard drive is on on of the first two not the last two SATA ports and you should be OK. I have 2 SATA hard drives and BIOS sees both. I'm also using F6 Bios. keplenk
Hi all, Anyone having heat issues? My Leopard in my DS3L is running hotter (not too hot) compared to my Windows. My processor is E2180 When I'm in XP (AHCI hacked) the temps run from 33 C (idle) to 53 C (full load) When in Leopard (using Thermal monitor) it runs 48 C (idle) to 67 C (full load) I know those are safe temps but is there an explanation for this unusual behavior? I used Kalyway's release and checked the extension folder and there are NO AppleIntelCPUManagement.kext there. What are your temps? Did anyone checked and compared to windows? Thanks. EDIT: These temps will be important to me when I try to overclock my system (soon). ATM, I'm running @ stock speed using Intel Stock cooler. 67 C is just too high for this proc running at stock (full load). EDIT2: I've tried using other mach_kernel from #10.5 and i have the same heat problem. I've also noticed that while I'm typing this, temps play from 54-56C ... safari is only opened. In Windows, normal usage only plays from 37-38C im using coretemp and SpeedFan 3.34 beta release 38. theRG
Followed the guide and got it running fairly well so far. One issue I got was a notice to reboot (see screen). I was installing WoW off of a dvd at the time so maybe it had something to do with that. Anyways followed the MBR dual boot instructions (though I haven't setup EasyBCD in Vista yet). I used this install: http://scottdangel.com/blog/?p=19 for my EVGA 8800GT 256mb and have dual monitors working flawlessly. Leopard also recognizes my 4 gigs of ram correctly.
