ksuhumpy
I am another party in which OSX chews up the battery like crazy. I know the stock battery is only 4400 mAh but I get less than an hour and a half unpluged with Leopard. I have looked into buying the 8800 mAh replacement battery but when I can already run windows for 2X as long I have trouble justifying the $100, when the laptop itself was only $400. Anyone out there have the double size battery? What kinda upluged times are you getting from the battery in various operating systems? Also is it decided that the Kext that fixes the 777 problem is 100% working? I think I might install later tonight if so. Is there any program out there that can speed up the kext install process? I know its good to understand the terminal portion of things but after you have done it a few times it just becomes a pain. I know its good to understand the terminal portion of things but after you have done it a few times it just becomes a pain. Thanks everyone, Jason After using the kexts posted before, I no longer have the 77777 glitch. My touchpad and keyboard also no longer lag. I'd say those kexts pretty much fixed it. I have the normal battery, but I am usually at my desk with the laptop, so it is plugged in most of the time. Of course, I take it around the house and bringing the powercord everywhere sucks. Right now im pretty satisfied with it, im not sure the extra $100 is really worth it. BTW guys, I tried the AppleHDA Patcher...didn't work. I was, however, able to mess around with the codec dump so that it recognized the laptop (maybe that's the first step?). However, it didn't recognize the ports...just the internal speakers. In the end I ended up loosing my audio and needed to use Time Machine to restore my extensions folder Got my audio back. I was pretty bored last night, so I made a vid on how to install it on the Compaq C717NR as well as a simple video showing it boot up Loepard. If you guys think there is anything I should change around with the "how to" video let me know. It could probably be better. As I said, I was bored P.S. - I tried to install Leopard on my desktop, that turned out horribly. I also tried installing it on a spare AMD machine...that also turned out horrible. Guess I picked the right laptop on Black Friday. Vanilla
The new PS2 works great. I think I'll update my zip file with it. 10.5.2 is still very smooth for me. This machine is a keeper. -vMy battery is getting about 2 1/2 hours. Not great. But usable for me. Then track down Paulicat's X3100 kexts and install them using the instructions you find with them. That should solve your issue.I thought of cutting through and making the Compaq logo show through before, but I only have a few Apple stickers left from other iPods...ill mess it up somehow Check it: My sticker came today. 00diabolic
Guys I fianlly got my Lenovo 3000 n200 0769AVU all setup and working in Leopard 10.5.2. This laptop posed some interesting issues that the c700 did not have. Overall though it is a lot better then the c700 for a minor cost difference. Gained the following over the c700 (things the work in OSX only): Firewire, 1x more USB, Bluetooth, better trackpad (Way BETTER response), mic and headphone jack work. Plus is a lot better built. Seems like it would last a lot longer then the c700 as it could take a hit or two. There is hopes I will get the camera to work as it works with the sonix webcam monitor but not with photo booth. Sound & CPU were the big problems with the model. CPU only works with CPUS=1 with vanilla kernal. I have to use a hacked kernal to boot without that but at least it works the other way so I dont have to completely fear an update. Also netkas just released a 9.2.0 kernal that has speedstep and I'm using that and LOVING IT. You cant get speedstep with the vanilla kernal so why not. Sound has no volume control but I do have headphone jack and mic working so thats not bad but I cant turn it down LOL. Luckly most apps have volume up/down. Overall this a really nice macbook clone and comes damn close and surpasses the c700 in some ways. bigern1990
Well it looks like the minimum requirements for iMovie are quite ridiculous. In the install notes it says it has a minimum of a 1.9ghz to 2.0ghz Dual-core processor... I have a hard time understanding why it needs that much processing power. fooljoe
Wow, two finger scrolling? Impressive. QE/CI and wireless both work? Very nice. wireless isn't the same for all. in particular the 751 card isn't known to work. I searched ebay for 441090 and bought one of those cards (same as 712) for $20. then with iATKOS r2 wifi worked out of the box I actually never even tried the card it came with - anybody have success with it? just make sure if you go for the 751 to get this exact card and not a dell 1390 or similar, as HPs are known to have bios whitelist issues with third party cards. all in all the 751 makes a great $600 hacbook ($450 at bby + $20 wifi + $129 leopard + $1 apple sticker for legitimacy). I actually upped the ram to 2gb too if you want to factor that in. only issues for me are sleep and battery life. I put it together for my wife but often she has to pry "her laptop" from my hands to use it Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/76194-install-on-the-compaq-c714nr/page/11/#findComment-663346 Share on other sites
MissingNo
I'm still confused >_> I've got iATKOS_v1.0ir2.iso downloading right now from my favorite site, but now I'm getting more lost. What files will I need after I burn the ISO to a DVD? I've heard people needed GParted and such. I understand the basics of kext unloading/loading, but what kexts exactly do I need to get it up and running? I see I'll be missing out on the onboard mic, jacks, and proper sleep, but I rarely use those. And should I be worried if the machine's running too hot? With the iATKOS install, going to sleep works, and it will wake, but the fan will not come back, so she gets hot fast. One of the guys (Vanilla) put together a zip file http://homepage.mac.com/bjeecw/a.zip that keeps the temps down. (Works with iATKOS install w/vanilla kernel) Mine is at 50 deg. c now. Backup your kext before you use these in case they don't work with your install. fooljoe
I tried installing it but I end up rebooting to a flashing "_" on screen. What the hell must I have done wrong in Disk Utility? It's set for MBR, and I'm following the link for the custom install options. That's a partitioning problem. It took me a couple iterations to get it right. What worked for me was to use MBR and first format as FAT32, using GParted on a linux liveCD - NOT with Disk Utility. Also be sure to set the boot flag (maybe check this first just in case before redoing everything). Don't trust DU for partitioning. Then I booted from iATKOS and used DU to reformat as HFS+ and all went swimmingly. MissingNo
Alright, I'm up and running. Trial and error - I actually trusted Disk Utility for partitioning. It worked. I had to, post install, boot to GParted, clear the boot flag, reboot to GParted again, and reflag the partition as bootable. Then I went through post-setup without a hitch Edit: After installing a.zip, I think I screwed it up, because my machine's running upwards of 70 degrees Celsius. Some files didn't exist when I removed them or tried to install them. Do the bundles go in different places or something? Or is there something I'm missing? I've got rm, cp, chmod, and chown, and then at the end of it all diskutil repairPermissions, but I'm still confused. Vanilla
The simplest procedure for this machine is: 1. install iatkos r2 2. update to 10.5.2 with this method: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=87078 3. install a.zip kexts+bundle from: http://homepage.mac.com/bjeecw/a.zip (instrux included in zip file) I put the new PS2 in the zip, it works great! Be sure to install 10.5.2 before you install a.zip.
