Numberzz
Reports are in that Apple, ahead of time, has bought new 13.3 inch LED backlight units. Nano Electro-Optical Technology have both recently become suppliers of notebook-use LED backlight units for Dell and Apple, with shipments to each supplier expected to soar in the future. The shipments to both Dell and Apple are for high-end models, confirming that the Apple's upcoming streamlined notebook will fall somewhere between the 13-inch MacBooks and its 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pro models. ~pcwiz
Yeah that's what I thought too. Apple buying Ahead (company that makes Nero burning software, now Nero AG)...that would be news. This news sounds like its in preparation for the "Apple Tablet PC" Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/74825-apple-buys-new-led-backlights-for-something/#findComment-528574 Share on other sites

apowerr
I too thought that Apple was buying Ahead when I read the article title. To be honest, I'm not very excited about these new ultra-portable Macs, I mean they're not going to have a disc drive so that really sucks. In achieving this smaller notebook footprint, Apple has reportedly adopted design cues that fall in line with the minimalist nature of its chief executive, including a bold move to omit a traditional optical disc drive from the aluminum-clad systems. The thickness of today's optical disc drive components are one of the primary factors limiting the ability of PC manufacturers to slim down their next-generation notebook designs. Although Apple had originally made attempts to build in a drive through unconventional means, it's reported that the plan faced both obstacles and opposition, and upon last check appeared to have been scrapped. U.C.
Umm Macbooks are 13.3 Inches. I think we might have a MacBook Refresh Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/74825-apple-buys-new-led-backlights-for-something/#findComment-528871 Share on other sites
iestyn
Umm Macbooks are 13.3 Inches. I think we might have a MacBook Refresh I was thinking that... I don't see the point of a sub-notebook to be honest. If it's 13.3 inches diagonally, it being slightly thinner than a macbook isn't going to make any difference to usability. 13.3 inches is too big to hold in your hands anyway, so it's not going to be a big iPhone... Sub-notebook would be more like double iPhone size, but even so, you'll have to carry it in a bag - not in your pocket. And you can fit an ordinary macbook in a bag... I don't think apple are making a sub-notebook... macgirl
I'm still suspicious why Apple includes a kext for an USB to Ethernet adapter, would it be for a Tablet Mac or for a Ultra Portable Mac, o for a Slim 13" Mac LOL Bring back a 12" model Apple Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/74825-apple-buys-new-led-backlights-for-something/#findComment-528986 Share on other sites
richtig
So when will Apple be updating their widescreen 20" monitor to an LED backlight? And, most of their competitors offer <5 ms response time, while Apple's version is currently 16 ms. U.C.
I'm still suspicious why Apple includes a kext for an USB to Ethernet adapter So that one can plug in more network cards in integrated systems such as iMac and Mac Mini. If I wanna enable Internet Connection Services in my Home Network without a Router I have to have two network cards. ruku
important fact - macbooks were upgraded 1 month ago, that is product that will have to be sold. itd be a nightmare to have to release a new product then take them off the apple store shelves 2 months later and send them to whichever stores sells their old stock. i dont believe it. my guess. itll be a macbook pro with graphics cards comparible to its big brothers. LED screens are not going to be put into consumer computers just yet. Special-K
The picture is a rendition of the supposed Mac-let that we've all been talking about right? Umm Macbooks are 13.3 Inches. I think we might have a MacBook RefreshI was hoping that, but then ruku made a real good point that the Macbooks were just updated. Although, they could keep the same specs and just change the screen. Maybe have all the store send back the other ones and have those LEDified. my guess. itll be a macbook pro with graphics cards comparible to its big brothers. LED screens are not going to be put into consumer computers just yet. That would be real awesome, especially since I'm getting one for graduation in a few months. The thickness of today's optical disc drive components are one of the primary factors limiting the ability of PC manufacturers to slim down their next-generation notebook designs. What's with everyone wanting EVERYTHING to be so {censored} thin? Like seriously, thin essentially means easier to lose and break. I'm happy with big and clunky. I'll know where it is at all times, much harder to break, and I can't lose it inbetween seats in the car or wherever. {censored} RAZR..... FUKKU
I too thought that Apple was buying Ahead when I read the article title. To be honest, I'm not very excited about these new ultra-portable Macs, I mean they're not going to have a disc drive so that really sucks. I wouldn't care that much since I don't play or burn discs that often, and for moving files around I use the internet or a usb flash drive. For the few times I do need it I'd probably be fine with a usb dvd burner. Urbz
I'm happy with big and clunky. I'll know where it is at all times, much harder to break, and I can't lose it inbetween seats in the car or wherever. {censored} RAZR..... LOL Yeah... big and clunky, STEVE ARE YOU LISTENING? WE WANT FAT, BIG MACS THAT DON'T FIT IN OUR CURRENT LAPTOP BAGS, YA HEAR? hehe... Anyways, I think the Macbook is due for a transition to aluminum enclosures. And this is what this is for. They can stop producing the macbooks that they have out now and sell the stock before shipping the new ones. They may even keep the same mobo they have now, cutting costs. Just because they are buying screens now, it doesn't mean they must quickly sell them or incorporate them into their notebooks... and I doubt they would have a 13.3" tablet Mac. I don't want to bother arguing it... it's stupid.
