hi guys, i'm an italian user (a teenager with a love for the macintosh and the girls :( ) and i'm installing osx on my first notebook. It's a HP COMPAQ 6720s:

CPU INTEL CELERON M 540 1.86GHZ

VIDEO GMA X3100

AUDIO ADI1981HD

WIRELESS BROADCOM (i don't know the model, but it's working from the first launch as airport)

LAN INTEL

i'm posting in this 3d because i've got a problem: the video card isn't working (no QE/CI and resolutions). My id:

VEN=8086 (gma it's intel :D:D :D)

DEV=2a12

2a12 id device...when i put it in the paulicat natit it doesn't work and at the boot tells some about dictionaries non present in the plist. I'm running now a kalyway 10.5.1 installation.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance from an italian boy :(

STATIONAPOLLO

It seems that there are GMA950's around with different device ID's which do not work at all. That 2A12 is one of them and at least one another is 27AE which is found at HP 530 notebooks.

I created a new thread to "Hardware" concerning this problem: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=85480

So far I have had no success editing Info.plists and adding this 0x27AE device ID string to them. It just won't work. How the drivers could be hacked to accept these IDs?

Hey guys,

I got my laptop to work 100% now with Leo's framebuffer with Natit.kext which I modded for gma.

So far I've only tested it on my laptop. I'm skeptical that it will work for desktops without further modification, but its worth testing.

You need to make sure you replace your existing AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext with the one from real leo.

Move your working framebuffer somewhere outside of /System/Library/Extensions and use ssh to move it back in case you get blue screen.

Here it is:

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ej2e9z2xg1d

EDIT: Forgot to attach screenshot of proof, note the GMA950.kext and Framebuffer.kext versions. :)

Paulicat

How this framebuffer was modified? How can I add a new device ID for Alkor dictionaries?

paulicat's natit works on my acer 4310 laptop with gma950 grafix, using kalyway 10.5.1, downloaded 10.5.1 update and install all the 950 related kext, plugin etc and the framebuffer.

no tearing at all one problem is if i tried to shutdown the laptop it looks like it goes to sleep, need to press the power button for a few seconds for it to power off.

anybody having same issue as mine.

btw i installed efi_v8 and the acpi with reboot fix included on the kalyway package

thanks!

If you have patched your system with taruga's patcher, that is most likely what is causing it. If not, there are many other threads with more shutdown problems, just search around here. Here is one thread: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=69823

Far as I know, there is no workaround/fix for this at this time. Hopefully the v2 patcher will sort that.

Does anyone have got x3100 working on a Dell yet?

A number of us do. You need to wait for the internal display to sleep before it will come up. It would be worth installing w/o any gfx drivers, setting the sleep times and such, then adding the gfx drivers.

Note that AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer seems to conflict with the GMAX3100/Natit setup.

Well... you really does not need to wait, you can force the display to sleep with "Hot corners".

Hi,

There is a lot of GMA950 that have different Device ID. Device ID that I know are 0x2582, 0x2592, 0x2772 and 0x27A2. There is a lot more out there. I have GMA950 with Device ID 0x27A2. Actually it is GMA945. Perhaps it is consider as family member of GMA950. From what I read, mouse tearing/trailing issue with some application can be fixed by this kexts file from 10.5.1 update:-

/System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelGMA950.kext

/System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext

This kexts file can fixed the problem, however, another problem happen, which is I only see blue screen. If I boot with external monitor, I can see the normal output at external monitor. But nothing from internal screen. Well, from what I saw at external monitor, no more mouse tearing/trailing issue. So, this is where Paul's Natit.kext file come to handy. I just placed it in right location, so it location should be like this:-

/System/Library/Extensions/Natit.kext

Reboot & internal work again. Yes of course without mouse tearing/trailing issue. :P

However this fix seem only working for some GMA950.

You do if you've just installed, don't have an external screen and don't want to remove kexts :P

But yeah, fair point

Also - if you prefer to not use autologin, then logging in, using the hot corner and then waking tends to result in no desktop.

I have no idea why this is (it's bloody annoying!), and logging out then in does fix it, but meh :D

BTW Macgirl, as a moderator, any chance you could petition the admins to fix the multi-quote engine?

If you quote multiple posts, you end up losing the formatting.. Seen the same thing when you go to edit a post with a quote in it..

All the carriage returns disappear. Makes it difficult to read :)

Yeah, it annoys me a lot, I will write to the tech staff...

EDIT: done.

Thanks macgirl :(

Hopefully something will come of it soon ;)

In other news.. I can now log in and use the hot-corners.. I reinstalled at the weekend. No idea what has changed to fix it, but I care not.. It works.. And with the stuff you linked to about the fingerprint reader it's even better! :D

ErrandWolfe: what was the source of the chess.app you used? Was it the tiger one that most people have access to, or did it come from a release OSX Leopard DVD? Or was it, like mine, off of kalyways 9a527 build?

Thanks,

EqUaTe

I am running version 2.3. As to its original source I couldnt tell you, have done one upgrade after another never really losing my OS. I can tell you my latest install comes from the Kalyway 10.5.1 DVD.

Oh my God, finally it WORKED!

I have Acer Travellmate 2490 with GMA 950, runnung Kalyway 10.5.1, and tried natit.kext and everything, without luck, but here is the solution, I hope it will work for most of you:

Just download the official 10.5.1 update from Apple and replace the AppleIntelGMA950.kext and AppleIntegratedframebuffer.kext in your System--Library--Extensions with the same one located in the official update in the same folder (use Pacifist of course...)

Now my mouse tearing issues are absolutely gone, no problem with Office 2008 too ;)

Good luck, now its time to celebrate with 3 beers :D

Yes, I noticed that... Apple plotted to remove me from my laptop... first the lappy screen didn't work and I had to use external (thankfully 24"), then lappy touchpad would work - it said I had to hit a key on the keyboard to confirm.

Turns out keyboard on lappy isn't working, so I find real USB DAS KEYBOARD II, hit a key, and get told that Apple doesn't recognise my keyboard (well of course not).

However, to overcome this I have to now click with a mouse on a button before my keyboard is enabled...

.... remember the old days "Could not find locator" "Could not locate finder"? :-p

P.S. Lattitude 820 with GMA950ish, Kalyman's kernel had no drivers for Intel, but even though it picked the external monitor - give it credit - it pulled the full 1920x1200 resolution.

But not so much as even a blue screen on the lappy. Dead black. It's a 945GM - From distant memory the 945GM is somehow tied in with the bigger GMA950 picture, I may be wrong, My server is a model up, G965 and ICH8-R.

G is for graphics, M is for Mobile. A is for .... Apple?

FYI...There are new GMA950 and GMA X3100 kexts in the new 10.5.1 release. I have not tried these yet on my Dell. Once I do, here is hoping we can finally get it working with Natit. I will report on any success or failure later. In the meantime anyone with some time, feel free to grab the update and test.

I still can't get rid of my mouse tearing on my Vaio.

When I try the Natit.kext, Intel GMA950 Kext and the FrameBuffer Kext all

I get is a white screen with lines going down it.

I have downloaded the new update from apple, extracted the necessary files and tried but

still nothing. I have also tried FrameBuffer Kext v1.5.16 but still no results.

I actually can't think of anymore I can do to fix this issue. I would like to use Office 2008

without mouse tearing so if anyone has any different ideas on what I can do please help me out.

Hi!

I have Toshiba U300-11Y, and have the same result as your U300-13U. I guess all Santa Rosa U300s will have the same issue.

I tried different things (natit, efi+gfx strings)

What can i say, external screen works perfect almost always.

Internal one...

If you connect external one, you can see that internal also detected and right resolution used. You also can see that there is backlight. So, screen is working. But obviously wrong :o

Best you can get is some fuzzy things on screen, so far.

Theoretically, you have to use right gfx string (with correct EDID info) with EFI, or load right EDID info via natit.

But so far I haven't time to figure out what whould be proper for our laptop.

I tried different gfx strings which you can find around with no success but with different symptoms. We have to construct right one for our screen.

I collected EDID info under windows. So, if someone has time to work through it, I can share it.

I still can't get rid of my mouse tearing on my Vaio.

The "white screen with lines going down it" is a good sign on a sony vaio. This means your display drivers are working correctly. The fix is simple. Plug your lappy in to an external monitor. get display options opened on the external monitor and change the resolution on your laptop to a supported size/refresh rate. then simply install switchresx and set the resolution to the prefered size.

Will this actually make my internal monitor work thou?

I found iAKACTUS (sorry, I forget how to spell it) to work much better for 950's. Worked perfectly infact. 1.0r2. There is tearing/wierdness in Mozilla/Crossover, but everything else if perfect. I just run Mozilla in a VM, works much better.
