hi all,

i'm currently using GA-945GCMX-s2 motherboard w/ built in GMA950 Display Controller.

i used ToH Leopard DVD, got 1440x900 resolution on my viewsonic monitor (native)

i update to pc_efi_v80 then 10.5.1 Leopard,

Problem:

1. resulution stock only @ 1024x728

2. cannot change resolution to 1440x900 (native resolution of my screen)

Also having problem w/ artifacts. @ finder.

need help.

hi all i am also having the same prob.

but no effective soln available i think ;)

does anyone else have problems with turning off their laptop after installed the first laptop natit with their gma950? after installing iatkos and then bringing in the gma950 files from 10.5.1 (cuz for some reason iatkos gives 10.5.0 files) my laptop shuts down fine. then all of a sudden when the natit is brought in laptop hangs on shut down.

Guys, I have a new Inspiron 1520 with X3100 onboard video and PC-EFI Leopard 10.5.1 is installed. My machine boots but the laptop screen turns off right after switching to the GUI mode. Here is the output of Grahpics/Display in System Profiler:

Intel GMA X3100:

Chipset Model: GMA X3100

Type: Display

Bus: Built-In

VRAM (Total): 144 MB

Vendor: Intel (0x8086)

Device ID: 0x2a02

Revision ID: 0x000c

I think it is very strange that it detects the Video card, but can't associate a monitor to it. I can hook up an external display and it will act as a 2nd monitor just fine. It has to do with the fact the driver doesn't understand how to display to the onboard LCD. does anyone have any suggestions. I have tried both the EFI boot as well as the Darwin Loader.. tried moving in and out different AppleIntelGMAX3100...kext files. Is there something else I'm missing to get the local screen to work accelerated.

UPDATE:

After putting Natit in place with the right Ven and DEV IDs I actually have fully accelerated X3100 video on my 1520 with the right resolution detected for the screen. I can verify this through VNC (remote desktop) but the D#MN LCD is still turned off. Has anyone experienced this where it works, but the LCD is powered down completely?

Thanks

Thanks, Paul.

My X3100 in HP DV9500t is working with CI/QE now, and switching resolution works as well.

Only a small issue: using native resolution of 1680x1050 will show me a pure blue screen with no manu/icon/dock/mouse; tryed booting into safe mode with 1680x1050, the components appeared, with crashed mouse cursor (like several dashs in 3 lines at a small area), how ever I can move the cursor and click items. So I choosed resolution to 1600x1000 and reboot, then the Leopard is good.

Is it because of the 144M vram with the X3100? Can we adjust it?

Again, thanks for everybodys effort to making X3100 working!

Same effect here (Lenovo T61 - GMA965 - X3100) - i d love to use the native 1680 res.

any solution around?

tom

i have an acer extensa 5220 with x3100. i installed kalyway leo 10.5.1 on external display - then installed the gmax3100.pkg from iatkos - rebootet without external monitor - waited till the maschine slept. after wakeup the internal display works like a charm. i guess that will help you. merry xmas!

sure.

Errandwolfe came with that solution days ago, but he force to sleep instead of waiting the auto-sleep.

It is really easy, press the poer button and press "S" of sleep button then just wake and voilá.

ErrandWolfe: Great workaround, will be doing a clean install tomorrow to try it out..

Hopefully we'll get a proper fix soon though.. I'd much rather use the stock kernels than the sleep-enabled one (for update purposes), though I wouldn't mind having the sleep one installed as a backup..

Has anyone tried the laptopdisplay kext?

I couldn't find any reference in the thread for it, and can't check if there have been updates, as the macvidia forums are down (which seem to be where the updates have been for a while)..

Still, we're getting there :D

To be super clear, this is ONLY going to work with the framebuffer from Leopard GM.

If you are dealing with an X3100, you DO NOT care about AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer as that is ONLY for gma950's.

For X3100's the proper framebuffer is: AppleIntelGMAX3100FB.kext, you can safely delete the AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext and any other GMA950 related files but be sure you see this 3100FB.kext in /System/Library/Extensions

Here is my last test release for tonight:

5) then i log into lepoard with an extenal lcd

6) delete (all the AppleIntelGMAX3100****.kext) and all the (GMA950 related files)

7) install the 10.5.1GMAX3100 (i upload) and (Natit.kext)by Kext Helper (i upload)

8)restart .use the notebook lcd (x3100 qe ci 1280*800 works.)

sorry,poor engish.

thx paulicat let my notebook R61E grahpic x3100 work

By the way - this worked for a Compaq C714NR (no need to follow step 6).

PS. Thanks Pauli and qzl722 - Appreciate all the work. :-)

if you check netkas site, they must have already received the info you need

http://netkas.org/?p=30

they have built this into pc_efi versions. you may find netkas on irc, info on the same site. good luck

thought there is a new one, listed in this post

"Working GMA950 Laptop Version made by amuroray: http://www.mediafire.com/?0dsmxvy1mbi "

the upload was done 12/30, so it looks rather new.

happy new year btw.

edit: just tried this, added gfx string into com.apple.Boot.plist but it didn't change anything. then I added the original AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext back to the system and had identical problems as before. At this point I'd say it's not working on Dells with gma950.

I have modified X3100 kext installed but when I look at the Graphics section in System Profiler it says I only have an ATi Mobility Radeon x1700 and not the X3100 which I do have. The max resolution I can get out of it is 1152x864 and not 1280x800.

Lewis,

If you don't even know for sure what video card is in your system then I submit that possibly getting a Hackintosh running might be a bit beyond your skill level.

hey errandwolfe, could you show me what your boot.plist looks like? im trying to do your method but im soo lost but an example will really help. thanks in advance!

thanks alot man, it gets released 2 days after i asked for it lol. thanks alot man it worked perfectly with acer. did u put device-properties into your boot list?

laptop(Toshiba Portege R500) vga out is not working, need help.

GMA950 is working perfectly with Leopard ToH RC2 installed except vga out, Update to 10.5.1 not changed.

graphics getting to unreadable if press Fn+F5(VGA out), I tried w/wo Natit.kext, EFIv6 for gma_laptop, EFIv8, vanilla and ToH kernel...nothing appears changed.

Also checked the Displays resolutions(screen file attached), 1024x768 and 1024x768(Stretched) not exist. If force boot to load Graphics Mode 1024x768x32, the screen keeps BLACK...but 1024x768 is supported by windows vista preinstalled.

What could I do next? need u help. any comments will be appreciated.

alright so i used a generic hex string from the macbook and put it in the boot.plist, when booting i got an error and it kicked into safemode, after messing with the boot file i ended back to where i was and booting back on to my ext moniter... we need a better solution

hey, great to hear it works for you. not sure what you mean by device properties into your boot list. thought all I needed to do was add the gfx string to it?can you explain? thanks

edit: reread this and conclude that I did add the device properties to my boot.plist file. here is what it looks like after editing. maybe I am doing sth wrong?
