Sherlocks, yes BIOS settings/CMOS reset only re-appeared with 10.15.4. I had no issues with previous Catalina versions up to 10.15.3. We need to look into the changes Apple must have made in 10.15.4's AppleRTC kext I guess...

can you upload applertc kext of all macos that you installed? ex 10.13.6, 10.12.6 etc .

i will find universal patch for all macos.

Here's a copy from latest HighSierra + Mojave (both post-Sec. Upd. 2020-002) and 10.15.3's, all of which giving no issue of BIOS/CMOS reset with Clover AppleRTC patch enabled:

I think you last revisited the old AppleRTC patch back in Mojave's days...

https://sourceforge.net/p/cloverefiboot/tickets/563/

https://osxlatitude.com/forums/topic/9325-patched-applertc/

I had a quick look at the kext's binary and I must admit things look pretty much the same between 10.15.3 and 10.15.4...

yes.

@Sherlocks, of course I was initially using KernelXCPM + KernelPm Clover patches on the Ivy Bridge; that's how it was setup and working up to 10.15.3 (and still works in previous macOS versions such as in High Sierra or Mojave). I guess the patch probably needs to be revised for 10.15.4.

Re: HDMI output on my Kaby Lake R Latitude 7490, it's business as usual: works perfectly with same patch as before. HDMI audio stills works too:

can you check ivy xcpm?

enable KernelXCPM option + add kernel patch

This means BIOS Settings go back to its defaults settings ?

I am using Clover but I have not this issue with asus z170i Skylake ..

Your motherboard is newer than mine .. Strange !!

Try Clover and see any thing would change

No, Bios settings never go back to default. When this screen comes I always going to BIOS choose discard changes, save and boot. But this screen starts to come again after 10.14.5 update. Actually its always come but there was a solution in the sample.plist but now this solution and RTCMemoryFix.kext doesn't work anymore. Something change in AppleRTC. I always use this on Opencore This is RTC checksum problem @Sherlocks maybe this can give an idea; When set boolean YES its always fixed this problem on 10.15.3 but now this doesnt work.

Open disk utilities, find your disk with the DATA folder, click show in FINDER and delete the folder (macOS Install Data)

I haven't had any issues with extensions, I use few as I can but with 10.16 coming out in the future, it will be an interesting time for Hacktinshers, we always have linux for those that do not want to use Windblows

@Allan, don't get mistaken; that relates to old legacy kexts, not to most (if any at all) of our Hackintosh add-on kexts. If you'd check their dependencies, you'd find that everything is Ok. There is no issue with Hackintosh-related kexts in 10.15.4 and I do not expect any issue on that front with 10.16, whenever it'll come...

first test, disable applertc and check that rtc kext problem.

here is file.

report please

EDIT1.

must be load applertc kext. need check other side

Hi,

I solve my trouble by removing all unused connector.

Power on, first time boot all is ok.

At reboot sometime black screen, remove power, reboot all fine.

i've two dell system only one is affected by CMOS Reset, the one using iGPU alone.

Other one nvidia+igpu -> no trouble.

[edit 1]

On my 3050 only iGPU, I got wake up, playing with DVMT Pre-Allocated and put it near stolen total memory used. (One time can reproduce)

0x40ADC                 One Of Option: 40M, Value (8 bit): 0xF9 {09 07 32 05 00 00 F9}

Total stolen 39 M

I would like to patch driver to get the same size, is it possible to explain how the value is define ? -> framebuffer-stolenmem", Buffer () { 0x00, 0x00, 0x30, 0x01 } mean 32M

0x40A77             One Of: DVMT Pre-Allocated, VarStoreInfo (VarOffset/VarName): 0x795, VarStore: 0x1, QuestionId: 0x2735, Size: 1, Min: 0x0, Max 0xFE, Step: 0x0 {05 91 25 05 38 05 35 27 01 00 95 07 14 10 00 FE 00}
0x40A88                 One Of Option: 0M, Value (8 bit): 0x0 {09 07 26 05 00 00 00}
0x40A8F                 One Of Option: 32M, Value (8 bit): 0x1 (default) {09 07 27 05 30 00 01}
0x40A96                 One Of Option: 64M, Value (8 bit): 0x2 {09 07 28 05 00 00 02}
---
0x40ADC                 One Of Option: 40M, Value (8 bit): 0xF9 {09 07 32 05 00 00 F9}

[edit 2]

After setting DVMT at 40M -> no more CMOS Reset ?, I always get boot screen and reach desktop.

@Sherlocks and @Hervé I ask this CMOS error on OpenCore bug tracker and vit9696 giving an answer but I don't get it anything (I don't know how to see ranges) you are both much capable of than me.

"You can use RTCMemoryFix to exclude ranges, it does not do anything by default. It is indeed likely that AppleRTC now updates data besides the checksum, which the patch removes."

 • Like 1

@Hervé I think he is mention about RTCMemoryFixup.kext

Offsets in boot-args rtcfx_exclude can have value from 00 to FF (wihout prefix 0x). Be careful:

Offsets from 0 to 0D usually are more or less 'compatible' and should not cause any conflicts.

Offsets from 0x80 to 0xAB are used to store some hibernation information (IOHibernateRTCVariables). If any offset in this range causes a conflict, you can exclude it, but hibernation won't work.

In my case it was only the one offset: B2. B0 - B4 offsets are used for PowerManagement features, but they don't work on hacks anyway)

Boot-args

rtcfx_exclude=offset1,offset2,start_offset-end_offset... - list of offsets or ranges of offsets where writing is not allowed.

Normally, in OpenCore just this patch, enough to get rid of from CMOS error; on 10.15.3 but 10.15.4 this patch doesn't work.

Sherlocks, I actually suspect it's not an AppleRTC issue. Why? Well, because:
 1. I removed AppleRTC from /S/L/E and the Vostro200 could not boot, as expected. I even tried in single-user and found it hung quite rapidly.
 2. With AppleETC removed, on power resetting the Vostro200 after it froze, I again found that CMOS reset had happened!
 3. I replaced 10.15.4's AppleRTC by 10.15.3's (I had to CMOS reset issue with 10.15.3) and still experienced the CMOS reset.
So, I think the problem is elsewhere. Wouldn't you agree?
yes. i checked all of checksum parts.
we have to find other kext or something related in rtc.

@Sherlocks But, I don't think so. Cause I used 10.5.3 AppleRTC.kext @Hervé shared the previous page and activate the patch above no more "The system has POSTed in safe mode" error.

Sorry guys I made a mistake while testing. Looks @Hervé correct and problem looks something else.

Hi,

I updated Clover to version r5107, and made the upgrade to Catalina 10.15.4. After booting, I get a black screen. Gigabyte Z370P D3, IGPU. Intel Core i3 Coffelake. Even with Whatevergreen 1.3.7 and -disablegfxfirmware boot argument, I still get the blank screen. I don't know how to compile anything. Is this a version of Lilu? Or a better Whatevergreen? Thank you in advance.
