nVidia cards natively supported?!

I'm not sure the new kernel is needed.

I've copied all the nVidia related kexts from the new kernel, and my system doesn't hang at boot.

It sets the resolution properly but I only get a black screen, but it keeps booting and I can connect via network. It seems it gets initialized properly.

I think my problem has to do with the framebuffer offset omni mentioned (my card is a laptop card).

So as a result I'm creating my own kext based on omni's description - it's nearly done now, too bad I have to go to work now.

If anyone can try the new kext's on the old kernel, please report your findings, it would be of great help to see if it is possible at all.

I've treid on the 4.4 kernel, but it hangs when the desktop should show.

Looks like AMD ppl will have to wait for the new kernel.

Giandal tell us, does the new driver let the monitor enter standby mode?

This is great news

I cannot test dual monitor, but the standby mode for the monitor works.

Ah, about this mac now works...

The only problem I'm left with is the network, which does not work anymore with the new Jas release.

(Well, besides linein audio, though it appears under system preferences using Taruga's Azalia, and wakeup from sleep)

OpenGL excites me.

Did you copy the nvidia kexts from the new kernel, or did you use the old ones?

I ask because I tried with the old kexts first and the hanged the system on boot - but that's understandable as they have unresolved symbols.

The kext from the new kernel loads fine on the old kernel, but I can't check it properly on my laptop, as it has a strange card.

I'm going to test on my desktop as soon as I get home from work - maybe that'll give better results.

hmm now you mention it, I used the old kexts. Guess I'll have a go with the new ones.

Hang on a sec - you are running the new JaS dvd from yesterday, right? And before, with no CI/QE, clicking on 'about this mac' used to 'blue screen' (well not blue screen, just go blue for a bit and then reloaded the desktop) on you?

Bizarre. Apple haven't made the 'about this mac' QE dependant have they? :(

Just the ones outlined on omni's site,

copy the Titan.kext to /System/Library/Extensions, chmod and chown it

chmod -R 755 Titan.kext

chown -R root:wheel Titan.kext

delete Extensions.kextcache and Extensions.mkext, reboot and pry.

I tried to fix permissions and clear extension caches, but always get the wrong installed extension message.

If I try to load manually I get this:

kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/Titan.kext has problems:

Authentication failures:

{

"File owner/permissions are incorrect" = (

"/System/Library/Extensions/Titan.kext"

)

}

I repaired permissions a lot of times, but everything seems to be ok.

Please Help !!! :-)

Im using 10.4.8 semthex kernel..

Davidovi you have to read what the console print after each command. Sometimes it gives you error message then you know that you did something wrong

I think that you are trying to chmod chown in the wrong directory.

first go to the directory where the file resides (Titans.kext) using the command cd

like:

cd ~/desktop/titans

then

chmod -R 755 Titan.kext

chown -R root:wheel Titan.kext

(it will ask for your root password)

then copy the Titan.kext to /System/Library/Extensions

sudo cp -R Titans.kext /System/Library/Extensions

Lastly, update the extensions cache

sudo kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions

reboot

/System/Library

Thnx found them!

Now i rebooted my system, and i get the following error:

The system extension “/System/Library/Extensions/Titan.kext“ was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update

I have installed it again, following the messages on this forum, and still i get the same error.

any idea?
