skn
Well, some others might. Yes, for sure! Don't get me wrong... I'm just suggesting to JaS to include some extra kexts needed for 915GAG/GUX/GAV/GEV mobos. Of couse he willl include other kexts in order to support other mobos. Takuro
Wait wait wait... there's going to be a DVD release when the kernel's kinks haven't even been worked out completely yet? If you look the diskarb errors are in the JaS 10.4.8 too, but then r2d2 kicks in and takes over. For some reason when people compile Semthex's kernel they get this and our favorite droid never loads. I think JaS has worked this out before releasing and/or knows how to compile the kernel better than we do. I think JaS has worked this out before releasing and/or knows how to compile the kernel better than we do. R2D2 is compiled into the kernel. It is not separate. I believe there will be people with Intel SSE3 who still have problems. My observation is that people with Intel motherboards seem to have the fewest problems. People with other motherboards may have more problems. But how better to find the problems than to give it out and let people compare results and speak up. Plus, JaS has said that he will be issuing PPF patches to the DVD. The patches will be relatively small, so your investment in downloading the large iso do not go to waste. Guest goodtime
Does the current Semthex source include this r2d2 source and key? Or is this a specially developed version of the miki's and Semthex's kernel in JaS' release; in other words are JaS' compiled kernels different than the sources sent out besides the MagicPoem; is there another key or any other eTPM stuff that is not well known and everyone missed when compiling their own kernel? I have an Intel Mobo and Intel SSE3 chip; could not get passed the blue screen. I would love to find out what I did wrong or if it's a problem in the source and if so, what the fix is. Nonetheless, the JaS true 10.4.8 SSE3 DVD is a pivotal release and everyone involved in the OSx86 project should get it while it's hot. I love fresh files. I also going to use it to test my own compiled kernels. It will be a great test base system for this sort of thing. This has been the most exciting week me since the Deadmoo 10.4.1 image. I'm loving it. Cheers, it's party time! GT Everyone 21 years or older, drink some more beer. Or for those who can't legally drink beer, have a Gatorade or Coke on me. Remember don't drink and drive, but drink and run OSx86. Guest goodtime
Goodtime,Have you tried to force its load in the rc script? In which part of the rc script you included the kextload command? skn, Thanks for the tip. I found two references to the droid in /etc/rc on JaS old 10.4.8. I will give it a shot on the test true 10.4.8 partition. Thank you. I copied the rc file from the JaS old 10.4.8 to my test true 10.4.8. Same result. I forgot to flush the kext cache. I going to try manually "kextload" the r2d2 from single user, "exit" and see what happens. Guest goodtime
OK.Let me know if it works. I modified the rc file with the correct path, the path in the rc file from the old JaS 1.4.8 was in all lowercase. Fixed it. Now I am getting a permissions problem with r2d2 . It does try to load first now. Going to re-copy it over and check permissions. Making progress. Darn, my USB drive keeps defaulting to ignore permissions on this volume. Must be a default for USB drives? Argh. Turning it off again and rebuilding permissions. Results: r2d2 now attempts to load first using the /etc/rc hack. Using the SSE3/HPET/NX kernel that is posted on this thread. It successfully loads and then tries to hack the kernel and seems to lockup or crash. Using Semthex kernel that I compiled, r2d2 reboots the computer when it loads, either manually or by the rc script. For kicks I tried Apple's kernel, but the system reboots before it even gets to r2d2. I'll try removing r2d2 all together and see if Semthex's kernel gets any farther, but doubtful. JaS' true 10.4.8 DVD is 11.53% done. averaging 50 KB/s 4 of 50 peers. Has anyone else posted a true 10.4.8 Kernel that boots to GUI on their system? PM me, I'd like to try it out. I guess what is missing in the macgeek/semthex compile kernel blogs is instructions on booting to GUI. As they stop at Single User instructions. Looking forward to the JaS true 10.4.8, but now this has become an educational endeavor. SaberSHO
Are you guys using the old r2d2? Vitality found that it was a little off and reworked it a little since the function signature has changed just a little bit since the old release of r2d2. Some modification is nescassary... I am trying to get the semthex kernel to work on my install. I have tried with both in-kernel decryption and kext decryption. I now am pretty sure that that is not the problem, however on boot i get errors from the rc script that are something as follows: rc(6):kextload /System/Library/Extensions/xxxx.kext 3 illegal instructions rc(228):kextd 28 Illegal Instructions . . . I am running on a SSE2 only CPU and i now have a feeling that these errors might be reffering to illegal instructions not available because i dont have SSE3. However, i thought that since i compiled the kernel myself on an sse2 processor, it would automatically get rid of the sse3 code. Am i completely off base here? Permissions are correct, the install is correct, im _pretty_ sure that all nescarry mods to the kernel to get it to boot are correct. Im baffled. Or does this seems to say that my decryption is not working? Does ANYONE have this same problem? does ANYONE have sse2 booting to gui? SaberSHO
Yeah, both the kernel and r2 where compiled on my dev partition, so they should not have any sse3 code. Now, in my research I found this thread: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...=29343&st=0 Could the new 10.4.8 Frameworks have sse3 code in them? since they were probably NOT compiled on a sse2 processor, this might be the problem. Im going to try replacing all those frameworks and see what happens. It makes sense, since kextload and kextd and all the other errors probably link against at least one of these frameworks.
