HELP TOPIC - for help in OS X Yosemite (10.10) and below

I'll just clarify that this section isn't for "omg how to get mountain lion / lion / snow leopard running on AMD".

The section is named "AMD Development". This basicly means that this section is dedicated to developing, not asking help.

I know I've done this even by myself, but now it's kinda out of control, everyone asking about installing ML on AMD etc.

The 3 threads (SL / L /ML) should be dedicated to development of kernels and other related stuff and reports of the developments, not asking "how to get it running i get error".

If you need help with AMD on SL for example, you should post on the installation help or if you followed a tutorial, ask the tutorial thread.

However, I do not suggest asking with PM, because then other people can't get the same information as easily, and it's not funny to see inbox full every minute. :)

Also, if you need help with the test kernels for SL / L / ML, you can post on this thread, I'm sure there are people ready to help you with your errors.

Let's just keep the "development" threads clean of the "spam" / stupid questions (even if there isn't any).

For real-time help, download an IRC client and join us:

chat.osx86.hu #LegacyKernel

And when you get your build running, please post here!

Thanks! :)

Should we be strictly mandatory ahci enabled?

Yes!

with the variation of mac_carol with Andys amd_kernel with vanilla corocrypt ,

I'm stuck here:

macx_swapon Succes

the partitions, such as ... jnl: disk0s2 etc. listed all partitions

then comes the annoying USBF: AppleUSBEHCI ..... it gets on my nerves, even though I made a dsdt and've fixed ehci

please help!

I try to make a new dsdt file

You have set AHCI In Your Bios?

Thanks for asking!

Unfortunately, AHCI has been enabled since I got this PC, so that is definitely not the problem. I just downloaded the AppleNforceATA kext found at post #1477, will test and report back!

Update: I was able to get into the installer with mach_sse42_only and the AppleNforceATA, but it still crashed. What am I doing wrong here? :help:

Slowly Is how many time? 5 minutes?

Around 1 minute and 30 seconds, while with Sinetek's kernel it's under a minute.

still stuck at this line macx_swapon success....

Are you sure it's stuck? Wait for like 20 minutes and then take another look, my macx_swapon took 5 minutes with some of the kernels.

-v -x npci=0x2000 PCIRootUID=0 -nosse42bit

The above boot flags take me successfully to desktop in safe mode. Nvidia drivers are installed, GTX 480 is recognized but dont think graphic acceleration is achieved. Flash from youtube doesnt work and it is accompanied by flickering or repetitive loading of imagery with an increase in CPU and RAM usage across all 4 cores (AMD 960T with 8GB RAM).

Hope these boot flags help out.

Hi all.

I have a FX-8120 on a ASUS M5A97 EVO motherboard with 16GB of ram & a nVidia GTX 465. So far I have only been only able to use Sinetek's original ML kernel. Everything from Sinetek since & AnV's reboots instantly reboots after processing kexts. Currently have AnV's corecrypto.kext installed and the 10.8.0 AppleACPIPlatform.kext IOACPIFamily.kext IOPCIFamily.kext System.kext kexts. I have tried "-f -v npci=x3000" with and with -x. I don't have the nVidia driver in /S/L/E.

Any Ideas? Thanks

Hello!

I'm a little scared because of the first post, but i'm send here by another member so it should be fine.

First of all, im really happy finding this forum!

When i started looking at installing osx on my amd build, i found a tutorial on a french forum by Gils .

As I'm Dutch, i'm not really good in speaking French, but i can speak a little English (:

So lets start,

I have made the following build one year ago:

Processor : AMD FX-8120

Chipset : 970 Series

Memory: 8GB G.SKILL DDR3 1600Mhz (2x4GB)

Graphics card : HD6770

Mother Board : Asrock 970 extreme 4

And that's it basicly.

So once I'd heard about the sinetek kernel and mountain lion , i directly wanted to "help" the developpers by testing kernels for them and stuff.

I'm just having some problems while trying to install ML, actually the whole sinetek kernel doesn't work for me!

I'll reboot my pc know so I can check my bios settings, and then post them here.

Lets hope some of you can help me to install ML ;)

Once again ; I would really like to test things! As I'm 15 years old i have loads of time :P

Sirencely,

Bitcore!

Hello, and welcome on board! :)

What does exactly happen when you try Sinetek's kernel? By the way there are a lot of his kernels around here: which one exactly did you use?

Best regards!

Hi,

I've used a kernel described as: Sinetek Darwin 11.4.2

When booting with it, the following happens : First it reads all of the files, and then the screen will turn black and my system reboots.

Do you have any suggestions for other kernels or another version?

Bitcore

Try this kernel here, SinetekBronzovkAnVoodoo_rc4

Didn't work, however i'm seeing a cyan colored screen for like 0,0001 second before the reboot.

I think I'm not using the necessary flags. I'm just booting like: amd_kernel -v . Aren't there other flags recquired?

Bitcore

Or could it be the fact i'm not using corecrypto?

Anyone got AppleNforceAta? I get "still waiting for root device" In RAID Mode, & on IDE Native Mode The Same = Still Waiting For Root Device.

the problem: still waiting for root device, can have different causes.

try using this method as described by nanjuah Message #17 . or just download under my uploads Still_waiting_for_root_device.zip.

Possibly it may be the cause that you does not have set the boot sequence fields in the BIOS .

First position CD-ROM/DVD, Second position HDD HFS+,Third Position NTFS HDD, or disable the firewire

You also need to use arch=x86_64.

These are my bootflags.

npci=0x2000 arch=x86_64 -v

Tried it, but no succes.. still exactly the same problem.

Reading the files and then a reboot.

EDIT: Tried with CoreCrypto and succesfully launched the setup!

Only problem is that it says : "Cannot instal to this drive , can't update this version of osx" It's a harddisk with 10.6.3

After formatting that disk it is saying the same ;s I've used this tool to create my usb ML installation : http://www.osx86.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=3506 (only replaced the kernel with SinetekBronzovkAnVoodoo_rc4 and added the corecrypto kext )

Have to find another way

So I recently updated to 10.15.6. Whenever I boot now, it boots into 1080p max resolution on my 4K monitor via DisplayPort. It was working fine before!

Weird think is that when I disconnect the cable, reconnect it and then set it to 4K in display settings, it works again. But that means I have to disconnect and reconnect my DP cable every time I boot.

Latest Clover and kexts like Lilu...
      - Sapphire Radeon HD7950
      - MSi Z87-G43
      - Intel Core i5 4670k
      - 27 inch 4k Monitor via DP

      How do I solve this?

      Hi,

I am planning to make my hack ready for post High Sierra macos, finally xD  So I was looking for a proper AMD GPU, but it is not that easy to find a proper, recent guide for that. So compared a bunch of AMD GPUs, and this one seems to suit my needs the most: XFX RX 5500 XT Thicc II Pro 8GB

Will this graphics card work properly in macos? And what macos version is the minimum here? I read so many contradictory statements, some older said that the RX5xxx support in macos still sucks and is much slower than in Windows. Is this still true? I currently have a nvidia GT1050, I guess it still will beat that nvidia card?

Would this work with old but gold clover (recent version) + lilu and whatevergreen, or should I switch to OpenCore then?

      Thanks for info!

      Hello Everyone,

Trying to get Hardware Acceleration working on my Hackintosh (HEVC Support) however I am such a noob, OpenCore is very new to me and would love some support.
I have included screenshots and the EFI that is currently working on my System, I have USB 2 & 3.0 all working, however, the only thing I can fault is my GPU not being hardware acceleration enabled.

Final Cut Pro X - Recognises GPU
      VideoProc - Doesn't recognise anything.

(I am running the latest version of OpenCore 0.5.9)

Things I've tried: I tried following the post https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/catalina-10-15-2-update-lost-hevc-h265-acceleration.288563/ - No Luck
I have also tried: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/activate-amd-hardware-acceleration.2180095/page-53?post=28255048#post-28255048 - No luck either!

My friend online tells me I shouldn't need such Kext as he has the same build as me but when I load his EFI on my system it boots with no USB 2 or 3.0 (I'm keeping his EFI off here as I've uploaded mine.)

Please note: I appreciate all (any) pieces of advice and please do bear in mind that I am a noob and may need whatever you say simplifying as I can get easily confused.

Radeon RX 580 8 GB graphics card on macOS High Sierra (as of 10.13.6), Mojave and Catalina on the P55-USB3 board: excellent performance with acceleration (Metal) OOB, no need for drivers (kexts), with 3 drawbacks, one has to do with the boot of the operating system (a solution is proposed), another with the number of rear connectors enabled (a solution is proposed) and another that only affects to one phase of the Mojave or Catalina installation (without clear solution for now).

I have placed the XFX AMD Radeon RX-580 P8DFD6 8GB Triple X Edition GDDR5, 256BIT, DVI + HDMI + 3DP graphics card on a 10 year old motherboard (Gigabyte P55-USB3) in order to update the hackintosh to 10.14 Mojave and 10.15 Catalina because the card that I have used in past years, Nvidia Geforce GTX 750 1GB, has stopped working after 10.13.6 High Sierra since this was the last version for which Nvidia published the alternate web drivers that were necessary for the card to work well with graphic acceleration.

The new RX 580 card needs considerably more space than the old one although it fits perfectly in an ATX case, and requires an additional power connector. It has 2 big fans that most of the time are stopped, at least in my case. In macOS it works perfectly, even with Metal acceleration, without additional drivers and without extra settings in Clover. But it has drawbacks that I comment below.

      Alterations during startup

During the boot of the operating system, when the screen goes from the basic driver to the AMD driver, 2 artifacts appear randomly, they are very short in duration (from one to a few seconds):
Very short flashing white screen that may or may not be accompanied by purple lines The fans runs for a few seconds (the noise is clearly audible). This behavior is solved with the installation of 2 kexts, Lilu and WhateverGreen. Lilu is an extension created by acidantheraand vit9696 among others whose function is to help to patch kexts, processes and libraries during macOS boot. It is accompanied by specific plugins for the task required, for example WhateverGreen that injects necessary patches for certain AMD, Intel and Nvidia graphics cards. It is mandatory to have both extensions together, one of them separately does not correct the problem.
I have installed Lilu 1.4.4 and WhateverGreen 1.3.9 in the EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other folder of the EFI partition and artifacts have disappeared. Remember that these 2 extensions are not necessary for the card to work properly, if you tolerate those very brief distortions of the screen or the noise of the fans running for a few seconds, you can live without Lilu and WhateverGreen.

Note: authors recommend that when using Lilu and WhateverGreen with Radeon cards, NO graphic settings have to be added to Clover (Inject ATI, etc.).

Note: these alterations, especially the brief white screen and less frequently purple lines and fan noise, are also seen in Windows and some real Macs with the same card.

      Alteration during macOS installation

Boot from USB > Clover menu > Install macOS from Install macOS Catalina > screen works fine
Boot from USB > Clover menu > Install macOS from MacintoshHD > black screen
Booting from USB > Clover menu > Boot macOS from MacintoshHD > screen works fine.

In the first and third stages, screen works fine. In the second stage the screen goes black although the installation continues. The user has nothing to do at this moment so you can leave the PC working until the Clover menu is shown again, the screen is recovered, the initial account options can be configured and you can enter into the newly installed system with correct resolution and acceleration.
This behavior is not corrected even by placing Lilu and WhateverGreen into the USB device. At least in my case I have not found a solution for it. Yo can install macOS perfectly with that drawback of not seeing how it progresses during the second phase of the installation.

Only 2 connectors of the 5 available work

This card has 3 Display Port (DP) ports, 1 HDMI port and 1 DVI port. In my case, only 2 DP work, those that are further from the HDMI connector. It is enough if you use a single monitor or 2 monitors that can be connected by DP. But if you want to have 3 or more connected devices or some of them only have HDMI, it is necessary to enable the 5 connectors or at least 4 of them since the DVI is obsolete and does not allow resolutions as high as DP and HDMI.
User foxbox has proposed a solution in a thread titled [Solved] Sapphire RX 580 Nitro + SE | black screen on HDMI and DVI. Must inject from Clover a modification to the Orinoco framebuffer (which is used in the RX 580 card) so that the 5 connectors lack a fixedly assigned address and, instead, receive it dynamically. This change is made from the KextsToPatch section of Clover. Read the post from foxbox.
This has to be accompanied by 3 changes in the Graphics section of Clover: Orinoco in FB Name / Inject ATI / 5 in Video Ports. I have tested this solution in macOS Catalina and it effectively enables the 5 ports of the card but, since I only use 1 monitor, I have removed it and I am with Lilu and WhateverGreen.
