What did you use to install OS X with? What bootloader did you install to your HDD?

 

If using a separate hard drive it is easy:

1. Open up your box and install the new HDD (if it is not already installed) and while you are in there. disconnect your OSX disk.

2. Boot up and enter the BIOS settings and set your new disk to 1st in the HDD boot order. Save & exit, continue boot.

3. Install your other OS (Win7 in your case) as you would if it was the only one you had.

4. Reboot and update from Microsoft Update website.

5. Shut down, reconnect your OS X HDD.

6 Boot up and enter BIOS settings and change your OS X HDD to 1st in the boot order. Save & exit, continue boot.

7. After the BIOS post when you see the Verifying DMA Pool Data, get ready to hit any key, usually space bar or the down arrow when the Darwin boot loader timer appears before it times out and select from the list (if using AsereBLN's bootloader). if you are using Chameleon, it should detect the Win7 drive and show you an icon.

8. Select whatever OS you want to run. (Win7 shows up as System Reserved)

I used the I32boot disc located at the end of the How to Thread for the asus p6x58D premium posts in this board. I can give you a link if you need... but I HAD to use all of these as well: -v -x arch=i386 cpus=4 busratio=21

 

THanks guys. I will give this a shot. Problem is that I was trying the TonymacChamelon install in EFI partition, and things got scrwy on my again, so I am not sure what boot loader i am using, or in what state it is in. It sounds like what you mention towards the end, having to hit the keys quickly. I will try to install on seperate hd and see how it goes.

 

WIth these 5870 drivers, I notice that whenever i boot into OSX, I have the blue lines moving across the screen. I typically act quickly so i don't loose anything, but what I have to do is to open system preferences and select 640 X 480 real quick, say ok, then I can go back to 1900 X 1200, and it seems to stay fixed. Just thought I would mention it.

 

Also, I still get a break up in Safari when using the mouse scroll wheel. I have not tried anything else yet, is that a known? does it matter???

 

OT, Last time: Another question for you guys: If I selected AHCI to install SL, I can't now install SL in a raid, is that correct? Because I have to choose between AHCI and RAID. I have two 64GBSSD's and they are just too damn small to use for anything, so I would like to at least install SL on them as a 128gb raid. Is that possible?

10.6.4 is supposed to be just that, so yes, that's what Netkas has been up to, with quite success I must add

 

Ya, I saw the Netkas stuff. But now that the 5xxx are supported natively, shouldn't we be able to run vanilla? (i.e. not have to have a modified ATY_init and other stuff).

{censored}... failed to install my XFX 5870 (587A-ZN)

 

 

DVI2VGA, boot in 32 bits, graphics enabler disabled and aty_init installed (S/L/E). Till this point, i have my 5870 recognized in system profiler and only one resolution.

 

I install all the other drivers and the plugin (S/L/E), unfortunately it drive to a black screen. Maybe the dongle, i don't know :/

Does anyone know who is making the 5770 / 5870 cards for the new Mac Pro 5,1? Seems it might be best shot to get the retail card from the same vendor to have the best shot at getting everything working with support for dual cards.

 

Seeing as Apple stuck the deal directly with AMD for the GPUs, I would have guessed the cards are made by either AMD or Apple themselves.....and probably the reference design.

 

I see there is talk about Apple switching to AMD CPUs as well......seems like they are becoming best buddies!

New Mac Pro are arrived and graphic cards are: 5770 or 5870 :P , i hope it will be easier to get them working flawlessly.

 

I would like to purchase a 5870, some of you got a successful installation with one of this two models please?

So I have noticed Netkas new drivers and rom for 5770. I don't see much going on here about the news, is there another thread happening about his latest post dated august 4th?

 

Also, I downloaded the .rom file. What do I do with it exactly? I mean, in terms of working with a new BIOS, and using rom files for nintendo 64 emulators, I get. But what do you do with it here in the hackintosh? And what do I do about the existing drivers? Am I going to have to rebuild the machine?

 

ALso, are we still waiting for dual 5870 support. Thanks!

Hey, in fact i don't have a DVI-D cable ;), just my old good companion DVI2VGA clicktronic one :P

 

 

I have followed the installation procedure step by step, uakari, and vervet then, but i am quite sure with the right cable it should work.

 

You know what? Ok i buy a cable right nao :D

I am upgrading due to Starcraft2 as well :) and have a 8800 gt right now that won't let me play at ultra bla bla bla.... anyway went looking for your asus and it as only one dvi while I have 2 monitors :( . By the way which driver did you use? what score it gives you in cinebench?

You've got the voltage tweak on the Asus one, right? So i could flash my bios with the Asus one. Great :)

 

 

In the fakesmc 2.7++, there is an ATI plugin but i am not following the thread atm.

Mine has 2 DVI, like this one: http://www.pureoverclock.com/review.php?id=854&page=5 except mine has something like carbon fiber adhesive over it

Yes, voltage tweak. You can't do it with your one? I thought it was reference too.

Asus and MSI bios permit the voltage tweak, btw, uakari, vervet in your plist? stock aty_init?

Cinebench opengl score is 32.43 low as 4850 / gtx280M :\

 

Temperature with iStat and fakesmc as you suggested with radeon plugin

Trauma has made a modded chameleon that allow you to boot in 64 bits, and without aty_init.
