Just making it one step simpler to install for peeps with the 5xxx cards. raitox Posted July 14, 2010 Share Posted July 14, 2010 Hmm no I dont. Mine is a saph 5870. And I tested it last night. As it got hotter the fan got louder. Thanks for the response. Putting a fan blowing into the case brought the ambient temp down enough to keep the card from showing graphical errors, but that is not even trying to run any heavy 3D. Installed the ATY_init.kext to extra folder. in system profile it NOW tells me I have a GPU with only 256 of vram (I have a gig) and no kext loaded... Should I install the other kexts or wait? pigia76 Posted July 18, 2010 Share Posted July 18, 2010 I have a 5850 working with netkas kexts but no QE/CI (I think) because iPhoto doesn't let me edit pictures (just a blank screen instead of showing picture), Preview shows PDF files but not the pictures files (just a gray screen), I installed Torchlight and the game doesn't run. I'd like to try the [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] cd ... how does it work? Bye. franklyhollywood Posted July 19, 2010 Share Posted July 19, 2010 Ok.. so I found and used Kext helper. Then when I rebooted, I got a black screen, and the fan on the card went to screaming loud. I shut the machine down, and put in the 4870, just to give it a try. This time I got to the "intel core i7 logo and the apple logo behind it" with the spinny wheel. It just sits there. If I take out the 4870, and put in the original Nvida card that was in, I get the same result, and I can not get into SL. What did I do wrong? HOw do I get back in to my SL? thanks! Download a copy of kext helper. That page that you download the software from, will tell you how to use it. It is super easy. Drag and drop all the .kext files onto the helper application, and enter your password, and select easy install. This is what I did, but as you can tell... I could not get my 5870 to work.... I could still use some help here on that issue! Also, How DO you use the tonymac [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url], other than to rebuild the whole darn mac / computer??? I have to tell you, that with my asus P6X58D P board, it took me a week to finally get ANY distro working, and that was with the 132 cd at the beginning of this post, and a cheap old Nvidia 8400! I would KILL to be able to get my 5870 back, and I don't want to rebuild the computer with Tonymacs stuff, because I could NOT get it to work. My mobo would NOT find the hard drive..... pigia76 Posted July 20, 2010 Share Posted July 20, 2010 To install Kexts, i place them in them in the folder i want either S/L/E or E/E, then i open up KextUtility and it repairs all the permissions and allows all Kexts to function. This is the easiest way, no need to enter Terminal. About the 2 Monitors issue, i dont really know, i only use 1 monitor. I think its safer to move Kexts into E/E, but i havent had a problem, i usually put any modded stuff in E/E like Audio, but put all VGA stuff in S/L/E. It should work either way tbh. Did you install ATI3000 kexts too? I installed ATY_Init.kext, ATI5000Controller.kext, ATIFramebuffer.kext and ATISupport.kext only but still no QE Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Parappaman Posted July 21, 2010 Share Posted July 21, 2010 Hello everyone, I'm having a really weird problem with my new Sapphire HD5850 Toxic and I hope you people could help me out. I have a fully working 10.6.4 system, single monitor connected to DVI. I installed in S/L/E all of the driver and ATY_Init kexts found on netkas.org and disabled GraphicsEnabler in the boot.plist as I was previously using it on a nVidia card. Problem is, all I get on screen is the Apple logo with the spinning wheel, but I believe the system is running correctly in the background as I get no kernel panic and I can normally reboot it with the ctrl+cmd+eject combo. I already rebuilt system's .mkext and tried all of the possible boot options (-x, different arch= and so on) without much success. Is there any step I'm missing? Thanks everyone! Hi Mitalca.... No, I don't believe they are reference... sorry. I don't remember. i know that is terrible. They are xfx and I have two of them. How can I tell if they are reference or not? How do you install the kexts? I tried again, and again I got nothing, and now i can't afford to have any mistakes again, as I am editing and I have al my video files and fc projects on this machine, but I want my 5870's!
