That's a different card. I'm referring to the desktop Geforce 210.

Just a quick update since I noticed the note about Chameleon RC5 Pre12 and it's updated Graphics support. I still find for the problematic Geforce 210 that Graphics Enabler does not properly work and had to revert back to my previous solution under 10.6.3.

Guod: when you created a custom efi string in osx86tools... it goes like this: select custom from the list of graphics cards... type a name for the card.... select your ram amount... for NVCAP select custom and paste in the values you got from NVCAP using your rom file... this will generate a plist and some hex code below.. the hex code is what we want. this long hex code goes into your com.apple.Boot.plist file as such: <key>device-properties</key> <stringHEX CODE HERE</string make sure the GraphicsEnabler is not in this file. Does that clear it up? The only reason we would ever need be concerned with the plist it generated is if you needed to use more than EFI string like I did.

Have you read through the two pages prior about how to create an EFI string and NOT use GraphicsEnabler=y as I have found that com.apple.Boot.plist option to NOT work for this card? With a proper EFI string generated from custom nvidia in osx86tools and your own NVCAP values taken from card's ROM file QE/CI work great on this card.

[offtopic] No you are doing right. Better to move them here where they can get help. Otherwise they will just post over and over.

Guod (and anyone else still having issues): You won't see QE/CI information in Profiler. You will know it's working by the obvious things: translucent bar up top, RSS screensaver available to you, ripples adding dashboard widgets. Did you create your own EFI string using OSx86Tools? I highly recommend this method. Also did you get your own NVCAP values. Do NOT use any of them listed in the tool. Also when creating your own EFI string make sure you select Custom. You will be naming your card so that's up to you. As far as choppy video, well there are other factors here at work like your system's ram, CPU. So I can not say what your problem is specifically without more information, but I can tell you that properly creating your own EFI string and making damn sure that GraphicsEnabler is NOT in your com.apple.Boot.plist is very important. If that line is in there your EFI string will not work and the card may be detected as a generic 512MB nVidia card, but only kinda working. This card hates that option from all of my testing. Also I recommend that you are running 10.6.2 as all of my tests with 10.6 and 10.6.1 produced questionable results at best. Also just a note for people who have PM'ed me. Please keep it on this thread so that others may benefit from the conversation.

Update for me as well. I made a mistake with my combining two strings. Corrected and I'm good to go. This is definitely the way to go if GraphicsEnabler doesn't work for this card (which seems to be hit or miss for people.)

Hmmm what does your system profiler say for Graphics? Is the RSS screensaver available to you to select? I have found I can not make this work with anything less than 10.6.2 I have also found an issue where I can not make this work if I need to use any other EFI strings. In my case I need to use and Ethernet string as the EthernetBuiltIn=y does not work properly for me for NetFlix DRM purposes (chameleon RC 4).... I'm going to work with this more tonight. But EthernetBuiltin worked fine when coupled with GraphicsEnabler... so I will let you know what I come up with.

Hmm I don't know whether I boot with arch=i386 or arch-x86_64 I get the same result so I can not reproduce what you are seeing. I can't think of a compelling reason to boot in 32bit though if 64bit works.

ripples would definitely mean it's working.. the most obvious sign it's working -> translucent bar at the top as opposed to the solid one. This card definitely prefers EFI strings over Graphics Enabler for me. I was able to finally get Graphics Enabler to work, but it wasn't stable and required me to boot, send to sleep, wake up (in addition only worked on the VGA port). Not a very elegant method. The strings work perfect, the only thing is anyone doing I would definitely say dump your card's rom not one you get on the net. None of the ones I found online worked perfect for my card.

Well spank my ass and call me Sally! Posting earlier got me motivated again to make this card (GeForce 210) work. Sure enough Once I dumped my own BIOS, ran NVCAP, created an EFI string using generic 512 setting and then remembered to disable Graphics Enabler by removing it from the com.apple.Boot.plist completely, the card is working perfect. Helps to have a test/dev environment installed separate that is a mirror of my production drive so I could keep playing with it.

Has anyone besides banini had luck with this card? I've given it a go before falling back on my old 7350 LE for now as Graphics Enabler results in a black screen and the EFI strings I have tried so far result in the GUI being completely unusable.
  14. Sono - can I get more detail. I've been trying to reproduce this with limited results. I haven't been able to do an install to an external drive as no matter what drive I use.. it fails the install. But I did clean install of kalyway 10.5.2 with only vanilla kernel selected and was able to boot up with both cores, but no sleep.. leaving me stuttering... however when i installed your package for what I needed I ended up back with the same problems as before being unable to boot up with the second core. Which packages did you install from your installer?
  15. Quick update. The current test did not work using the GUID formatted drive with Leopard and Vista for getting Leopard to boot with the second core. I will be trying with the MBR formatted drive in the next day or two and report back. Sonotone: you said you can boot with both cores with an external drive, correct?
  16. Well I have blown everything away. I'm in the process of getting everything back in place so I can begin running tests. The difference is this time I have went with a GUID disk instead of MBR. Windows booted ok after installation of both using the Darwin/EFI so I will begin testing the two cores for OS X later and report back. Keep in mind my setup is slightly different than everyone else as I seem to be on ly one with the cheaper 533FSB Core2 so this may have some impact possibly, but I'm not sure yet.
  17. Not yet. I havent had a point where I could be without my OS currently installed long enough to be able to blow everything away and start again. Sorry. Will let you know when I do however.
  18. Add a little weirdness to this. I just realized that when I had an NTFS partition as the first partition on the drive, (prior to making this a Leopard only machine) That the issue did not happen. When I first cloned the second partition to the first one problem first happened. And still persists with the whole drive as one partition. iAtkos resulted in the same problem. I'm thinking of possibly creating a small NTFS partition as the first partition and seeing if I can duplicate the results.
  19. Clean install to a GUID partition, EFI, Vanilla Kernel, no other modifications except fix for sound, power management, and NVInject results in the same thing. I can only boot into OS X with two cores once every 10-20 boots and eventually end in a dead lockup. Heat issue seems to be better on this install, but still high with temperature monitor reporting at about 65-58C. I"m half tempted to try an install without EFI, but that would introduce a whole new list of issues to address on it's own. I left the machine downloading iatkos so I'm going to see if that results in the same problems vs. kalyway. Looking forward to getting either a list from you Devil or maybe a zip of your extension directory. The machine is stable as can be running on 1 core, either via cpus=1 or disabling a core in the BIOS. Honestly running on one core wouldn't bother me for general usage, but with Fusion and Garageband I really need to utilize that second core. Plus the SIGPFE seems to be an error for a few people that needs to be nailed down.
  20. Thanks devil. I'm going to reinstall the system and start from 100% clean setup to start tracking this down. I'll look for that list from you.
  21. I think I may give that a shot restoring kexts to stock. I'm assuming I can pull those from the 10.5.1 update. I'm not using AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext as that seems to only escalate the issue on mine. I thought it odd too as I never had an issue under Tiger. I was holding on with Tiger until I decided to take a leap. I guess after all the work we put into Tiger I wasn't ready to let it go. I feel a little out of it when it comes to Leopard but most things went well. I'm really happy to see the new HDA patches have garageband working with the 9200 removing my need for the USB device. I'm going to keep playing around with it. I don't know how much of the kexts on kalyway are stock so restoring kexts might make a difference. I can repair most any installation so screwing things up isn't going to hurt anything and I can't deal with not having my second core. Weirdest thing is under whatever combo I have right now I was actually able to boot up once with both cores enabled and not sleep, but it was a freak accident I think.
  22. Hey guys quick question(s) Decided to finally move on from Tiger and installed using the Kalyway 10.5.1 disk on the old E1705 (single boot config, no Windows installed) Heat seems to be an issue. Temperature monitor consistently reads the CPU temp at 70-78 C. Now I don't fully trust that reading, but the system has locked up due to heat. The only time I have seen the heat go down to around 55 C was right after installing CPUThrottle, however the system will not boot with this loaded so I had to remove it. The kexts that normally cause heat issues have been removed, however I found that the system was hotter with the thermo kext removed so it was put back in place. I'm going to pull the fan out later just to make damned sure it's not a hardware issue that hasn't just popped up. Second issue is booting with both cores turned on. It only appears to boot about once every 20 attempts with both cores. The rest of the times results in a single floating point exception during the boot sequence (SIGFPE error) I've tried using both vanilla and the lastest SSE3 TOH kernel with same results. System never fails to boot on either kernel with cpus=1 or disabling second core in BIOS. This is a fairly clean install so I'm at a bit of a loss as to what's going on here, but my suspicion is that the FPE exception is due to the heat of the system at boot time as it is less likely to occur when the system has been off for a while. Ideas? Heat was never an issue under Tiger, nor was the dual core booting up for the sleep trick.
  23. 1. It is not located on the diagnostic partition. I don't even have that partition anymore and I have a custom logo. 2. Why do you care? Dell will honor your warranty with the custom logo as it is fully supported by them. The logo changer was made by Dell. 3. I will look around though and see what I can find for removing it. Wolf's Dell site (google it) might have some information. edit: you need the dell utility asset.com to remove it.
  24. Isn't Prasys still working on another solution for this?

hey maxxuss1... I've been testing this out and I was wondering... any hope of getting the same type of patches into the kernel that were done for the 8.9.1 kernel to allow S3 sleep? Or.. is there any way to use the 8.9.1 kernel? I love it. Leo makes me feel like a noob around here again
