ttang
Ok, thanks to the #osx86 IRC i found the solution to the Time Machine problem for those who have issues after 10.5.6 Upgrade. If you have Time Machine setup and after the 10.5.6 update get this Error with time machine: "Time Machine could not be configured. The built-in network interface could not be found." Here is the FIX: -Download EFIStudio (http://spotlight.hopto.org/osx86/EFIStudio.zip) -Run EFIStudio -change 'device' to ethernet -Click Add Device - Click write to com.apple.boot.plist -reboot. The problem should be fixed Oh thank you ... I found the alternate solution but thanks for the tip. Thanks for this plutoprime. I have been searching timemachine solution since upgrading to 10.5.6 over a week ago. Granted I've been busy inbetween but this was easy and relatively painless. I originally tried the UInstaller update but my user directory is on a different drive than the system. The application didn't seem to know what to do with that. This one just works... Detosx
You need to be running the vanilla ACPIPlatform for it to work properly for your 8C hotter than sounds like the IntelCPUManagement loaded check if it is then rename/delete from system.Hi MacUser2525, the heat issue is still a mystery, though I had the disabler.kext in place for IntelCPUManagement I had seen netkas advice on removing IntelCPUManagement but it was removed when I updated to 10.5.6. I will keep hunting. Re shutdown, I used Pacifist to extract vanilla ACPIPlatform.kext from 10.5.6 combo update and though I should add that at the same time I installed VoodooPower.kext and GenericCPUPowerManagement Application and kext to try and tame the heat (Superhai said to remove OpenHaltRestart.kext) - I do indeed now have full shutdown, thanks. . Does anyone have any other suggestions re heat post 10.5.6 install? Detosx
Another frustration is that though the screensaver is set to never, it now comes on. I also noticed when I fell asleep, the screen went black and couldn't be revived without a hard reset, which suggests power saving comes on automatically, though I have set Put The Hard Drive To Sleep to Never and unchecked the Put The Hard Disk To Sleep checkbox. Anyone know the whys and the solution? I am finding a lot of grumbles on Mac forums about 10.5.6 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141093-1056-released/page/30/#findComment-1024103 Share on other sites
Mark Rose
I have been trying to get 10.5.6 installed on my Dell D620 notebooks since its came out. So far, I have had to do full installs (I an up to 7 times now) since after the installing the 10.5.6 update and rebooting, I received the "Still waiting or root device" error. LelicBoo
My 2 cents on the upgrade. I started with the JaS 10.5.4 install. Upgraded it to 10.5.5 and now to 10.5.6 using the following method. I have 2 partitions on my harddrive so I cloned the boot disk using the free software superduper. This is because you don't have to worry about messing up your orignal boot disk incase things don't work out. Then boot of the second partition and use the following method to upgrade to 10.5.6 1- Download the 10.5.6 patch. Before installing the patch - open a terminal window and run the following script in it before installing the patch Open Terminal sudo -s *type password* while sleep 1; do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext; done while the script is running, run/install the patch. After the patch has installed, you may have to reboot twice before the machine comes up completely ( first time it will hang at MAC_REBOOT ). Then in my case, i had to revert back my video drivers to the ones that came on the JaS install disk using PACIFIST and had to reinstall my sound drivers. Other than that I had no other issues with USB or slow mouse or anything else. If all works then you can apple the same procedure to the actual boot disk. Not sure if this procedure will work with other flavors but worked fine for JaS. Thanks man! This procedure is working just fine on my Intel DP35DP - Intel Core Quad Q6600 - Dlink 1Gb LAN - Nvidia 8600 GT - 2Gb memory - audio on mainboard - OS X 10.5.5 iDeneb v1.3. I downloaded the update from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6 from the official site. As was said in here, I reinstalled audio driver. The Nvidia driver - NVDarvin 1.2.5 - stayed without changes after update. One thing, probably, that needs to be fixed - information about CPU, it shows 4GHz. midnightblues
This is how I did it. I used 2 separate drives. 1st hard drive had 10.5.5. That's my main boot drive with all my progs. I can always use this install if anything went wrong during the installation of 10.5.6. 2nd hard drive was my trial and error/scratch disk. that's what I used to figure a way to install 10.5.6. so here we go... Using Ideneb 10.5.4, I installed 10.5.4 sucessfully (during install...I chose 9.4 modbin kernel and no graphic card). Once in 10.5.4, I downloaded the 10.5.6 combo update and patched it using AMD patcher 0.31 I installed that patched version. No problems. Graphics did not work. Audio worked. Ethernet worked. Mounting DMGs did not work. System info was way off and it effected system performance. So...I started by replacing the 10.5.6 version of seatbelt and system.kext with the 10.5.5 versions on my main boot drive using OSX86tools as the kext installer. reboot. tested a dmg file. it worked. plugged in my Ipod. it worked. Next...Graphics. Ideneb has Chameleon, so all I needed was to install EFIstudio and find my EFI string to my card (Nvidia 7900 GT). Reboot. I got the grey apple screen and then it would stop booting...telling me to restart. To fix it, I replaced all the 10.5.6 kexts starting with "Geforce..." and "NV..." with the 10.5.5 kexts from my main boot drive. Reboot. It booted. I got QE/CI. all good right? ah...I noticed the graphics weren't as responsive. For instance, using magnification in dock, it would react slow to the mouse's movement. Also, youtube videos were choppy in full screen. So...what to do?...enter Voodoo Kernel 1.0. I installed it and rebooted it. It still didn't improve things until I replaced 10.5.6 "AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement" with the 10.5.5 version on my main drive. Everything works now. System info is accurate and the performance is probably as good as it gets. since my installations were on separate drives, all I needed to do was change the boot drive in BIOS, if I got stuck. oracle100
Holy Cr@p! I was 100% sure it wouldn't work form all the posts I've read. But I decided to wing it by going through with the 10.5.6 upgrade. First, I ran the upgrader. It downloaded and asked me to reboot. So I did. Wham! It KP'd at 59% complete. Didn't know what else to do but to hit the power button. As it booted I hit F8 to get the console. Then I let it boot with -v -x (safe mode, verbose) So I can see where it was hanging. Much to my suprise, it booted up without a hitch! No KP's so far, what a relief! I'm happily running 10.5.6 with no mods. My motherboard is Asus Maximus (upgraded to Rampage), Nvidia 6200, core 2 Quad 6600. Darwin/osx86 bootloader. menuhin
Help! Can't boot after upgrade! I've used Apple's Software Update to upgrade my 10.5.4 to 10.5.6. It downloaded the patches, and then asked me to reboot. But then, I can no longer boot it up again: every time, Apple's "screen of death" shows when the boot up is at the stage when the screen turns white (with the grey apple in the middle.) Your kp is possibly coming from whatever loads very soon after those, and its all the blah-blah-blah that can tell the devs wassup, which is why they ask for a photo, or it's hard to be accurate & copy all that down by hand Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141093-1056-released/page/30/#findComment-1028244 Share on other sites
