I'm having trouble here. I've installed the 10.5.6 Combo update; but afterwards when booting it simply halts here (kernel panic?):

I've followed this procedure:

1. Install leo4all release with vanilla kernel, no extra kexts.

2. Booted up to working system (from a partition with an old EFI bootloader). Installed PCEFI v9 and used the DSDTPatcherGUI to install DSDT-fix. Also installed the Appleintelcpupowermanagement.kext to prevent crash during update.

3. Rebooted to check if PcEFI v9 worked and everything else. It did. Ran 10.5.6 combo update which installed sucessfully. Rebooted to the problem stated above; kernel panic or something.

Anyone got suggestions?

Specs:

GA-P35-DS3L motherboard with ICH9 chipset

Core 2 Duo Processor

Geforce 8800 GTS

SATA connections for HDs.

4096mb RAM.

ALC888 audio.

See post #759 :)

Thanks, it worked (wouldnt boot on 1st attempt, but second one its good)

I installed nvinject 0.21 and it gave me increased resolution, but no quartz extreme. Know a fix to that one as well?

EDIT: Found the solution. I shouldnt have used nvinject. I used Pacifist to extract the kexts from the 10.5.6 combo update (NVdaresman.kext and NVDANxHal.kext (x for 10, 20, 30, 40, 50)) which i then installed and deleted nvinject.kext. Then i simply used OSx86tools to add EFI-strings for my card. Easy peasy.

It's been a while since I did the 10.5.5 update and some of the info has slipped away. . Even when I did that one I think I ended up hosing it all (waiting for root device) and reinstalling. I understand why this happened (didn't re-replace the proper kexts..) So could some kind soul please tell me which kexts to backup before I update again? My sig has all my info, but it's basically a Gigabyte EP35C-DS3R, all my drives are SATA (on the Intel controller, not the JMicron) and an 8800GT. Which kexts should I backup and then reinstall before I restart after I update? I'd really appreciate it so it's not so much trial and error...

Thanks alot

HP

btw- I'm not using AHCI anymore.. Just IDE. Need to update sig..

Successfully updated a Shuttle SG31 vanilla 10.5.5 config via software update. No DSDT necessary, just PM disabler kext. Add ethernet to EFI string to fix TM, repatch HDA to fix audio, restore prior AppleSMBIOS, and that's it! Simple update. No QT/iTunes lag noted.

For those of you using a non boot-132 vanilla config like mine, I just keep a folder of custom kexts from my last working system handy to patch any new incompatibilities. For my system, there are only 6. Someday I'll get around to the boot 132 method, maybe for 10.6.

Has anyone out there upgraded to 10.5.6 on a Delll D620 with the Kalyway install running the mach kernel? Every time I tried, I would get the "Still waiting for root device" error. I would like to know if there is something different I need to do based on my hardware (Dell D620 2.16Ghz Core2Duo / Nvidia / Dell Wireless / Kalyway upgraded to 10.5.5).

Also, with my Dell, although I have "Require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen saver" checked under System Preferences -> Security, when I hit a key or move my mouse while my screensaver is running, the password screen does not appear and I have access to my system. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

hi there's no needs to patching dsdt with the official applecomboupdate 10.5.6 just download it on the apple's web's side and install him

me too i'm on iATKOS v5i + comboupdate 10.5.6 and all works out of the box

p.s : do another proprely install of iATKOS v5i and then install the comboupdate like i teel you

good luck :D

The ApplePS2 kext for 10.5.6 work great for me on a Dell Latitude D830!!

If only I could get my BCM5755 Ethernet or Intel 4965AGN wifi working, life would be just about perfect.

As a workaround… Does anyone know if it's possible to get a little SMC USB-Eth adaptor to work (and if so how)?

Thanks !

Guys i seriously need help....

I've updated from iDeneb v1.3 10.5.5 to 10.5.6.... at first it won't boot up.... until i manually deleted the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext...

Then i installed updated ApplePS2 kext to get my keyboard and trackpad working....

However all of my USB ports and integrated web cam is not functioning...I've tried searching for updated usb kext but it won't work too... also... my battery meter is missing too.... have anyone experienced this??

BTW i'm using compaq presario CQ45....

Copy the file contained in the attachment into the /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/MacOS/ directory over-writing the one already there then as root in Terminal.

 rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/Caches
rm -r /System/Library/Caches
rm /System/Library/Extensions.mkext

Reboot then hit the F8 key when the drive starts to be accessed to get to the Darwin boot loader to type in then enter key -f to force the reloading/caching of all .kext on the system it should now work.

I tried this but every time I reboot it says the kernel extension was not installed properly and my airport is not recognised. However if I reboot and -f in Darwin it works. Any idea what I've done wrong or how to fix it? Thanks

Had that happen with the OpenHaltRestart once downloading it again solved the problem, if using a full .kext since I see you talking Airport here you may want to get the kext helper then use that to install it.

If anyone on a dv9000 with iatkos 10.5.4 updates let me know how it goes. I have always been afraid to update, I havent even doen anything just straight from the disc.

Hey there, I've been trying to get my QE/CI to work and we have nearly the same machine. If you have any suggestions or files that might help me get mine going, that would be way cool.

Thanks!
