Well... so can you guys tell me what is the real advantage of upgrading here... i mean, will the osx86 system become more stable? genuine MAC and hackintosh are 2 different things you know...

The advantage to upgrading really depends on your hardware and your needs.

Some people have less problems after updating, some people have more.

:censored2:

just finished updating iDeneb v1.3 OSX86 10.5.5 to 10.5.6

I have a Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3 rev.2.1 with ALC889A sound.

CPU is Intel Core2Duo E8400 @ 3Ghz, video is EVGA 8800GT 512RAM.

2 x SATA HDD, 1 X SATA DVDRW, PS/2 KB, USB Mouse.

Since iDeneb already has Chameleon bootloader included and

I have OSX installed on a different harddrive, I think theres no need to install another bootloader.

The DSDT i used was this

DSDT Patcher GUI

http://######.com/index.php?option=...0&Itemid=48

I did not move any file it generated, or so.

I just chose Darwin/Mac OS X and chose the OSX partition and clicked Run DSDT Patcher.

Im not even sure it did something but I wanted to be on the safe side.

Before running the update,

install PM Disabler or the update process will get stuck at random percentages.

PM Disabler

PM_Disabler.kext.zip

After update, my PS2 keyboard stopped working so I couldnt type any password to install new kexts.

Luckily my USB mouse kept working.

I booted the iDeneb DVD and chose reset password from the menu and applied a blank new password.

Rebooted in OSX and installed the ApplePS2 fix

ApplePS2kexts_10.5.6.ready.zip

these will fix the PS2 keyboard

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...st&id=41061

The ALC889A Sound obviously did not work anymore.

So I installed the same kexts as those in 10.5.5

ALC889A___Mimi.zip

these will fix the ALC889A sound (ALCinject is NOT needed any more)

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...st&id=40794

Finally, restart and shutdown were broken so I used this:

Gigabyte GA-(E)P35-DS3X Control Center

use this for Restart fix and SMBIOS fix

Now everything seems to be working in order except "Processor: 3Ghz unknown". No biggie there.

Thank you to everyone who contributes here,

uploading kexts and describing experiences.

Good luck everyone!

You should be able to fix the CPUID using the fix in this thread..

Nevermind, man! :)

Trying to update clear 10.5.4 installation (without ANY modified kexts) to 10.5.6 with Leopard Graphics update after it. Crossed fingers. Good luck to myself!! :D

UPDATE:

After update and two reboots the system has started in VESA mode. After it I booted from my maintenance Kalyway 10.5.2 and installed Leopard graphics update with Pacifist. After it I booted 10.5.6 and installed kexts for my graphics. Crossed fingers again and clicked Reboot.

It started!! Voila!! I don't know how to check QE/CI and I'll be very pleased if you tell me how to check it!

Keyboard and trackpad doesn't work, wi-fi card doesn't work too. I tried to install PCI patch but system crashed. Will try to find the new patch or something.

Good luck with your Christmas business!!

In the task bar, -> About this Mac -> More Info. That loads the System Profiler. Then, in left pane, select Graphics/Display. That display will tell you if your CI is hardware accelerated or not.

Did not patch DSDT

I have some problem updating to 10.5.6 from 10.5.5.

I follow the instruction from this site:

http://insanelymac.blogspot.com/2008/12/pr...pdating-to.html

I'm running Vanilla kernel.

I did the DSDT patch for my hp d4990y, but I select the darwin option 0. I have vista in partition 1, xp in partition 2 and max osx in partition 3. The active partition is the number 1, but when I select mac osx goes to darwin and I have to select mac again. Put DSDT.aml file on desktop

I installed the PC_EFI V9 Chameleon Edition 1.0.12

Create the plugin

Apply the DSDT patch to the Max osx drive.

Installed Appleintelcpupowermanagement.kext.

Run software update, and update.

System update, but when it reboot, nothing happen, I didn't see any indication of the hard drive working.

use the -v -f switch, same problem.

Then I restore from a image using Kalyway DVD restore image, but before restore, erase Max OSX partition.

When restore done, I got the chain booting Error.

I got boot with Kalyway DVD and the using OSX86 Tools I install EFI, darwin bootloader, then I install the PC_EFI V9.

Reboot and the system reboot without the DVD, but I' still in version 10.5.5

Any Idea was went wrong?

Gilberto

Finally works on my T60.

Initially I was confused by all the information available everywhere and thought I can just run any upgrade package after PC-EFI9.0 and dsdt patch. To make sure, I downloaded the Combo10.5.6 one and updated on my working 10.5.5. Unfortunately it lead to a hang at the line of "major 4 minor 2" or something similar during the first reboot.

Without finding out the reason, I did a reinstall from vanilla 10.5.0, then updated to 10.5.5 by using Combo10.5.5 package. To my surprise, it hanged at the same line for the first reboot.

It made me think why it will fail even for 10.5.5 that had running ok on my T60. I checked the update guide on netkas' site again and finally find out the cause of the hangs during boot.

The problem came from the Combo package which will kextload "Dont steal Max OS X.kext" during the first reboot, and that hangs the system on my T60. That means, if you are using a combo package for upgrade, you have to edit the file: /System/InstallStartupItems/scripts/1 before reboot and change Dont steal Max OS X.kext into dsmos.kext.

After editing the file, my T60 booted fine and this time, it updated to 10.5.6 by the 300M+ package without any problem.

As a conclusion, it turns out even with pcefi_v9 and dsdt patch, it still does not mean for sure that you can update like a real mac. It still depends on your machine.

Using Voodoo 9.5.0 + 10.5.5 System.kext/seatbelt.kext + Munky's EFI with DSDT, I am unable to mount my iPod and get my iPhone recognized by this 10.5.6 OSX.

Any ideas?

kextstat reports com.apple.driver.AppleUSBEHCI ist loaded, however USB hotplug is not possible, does not mount.

After applying AppleUSBEHCI via kexthelper again everything ist fine here. Just a workaround, maybe works for your too?

I hope this is gonna be fixed later running on voodoo and system x.6...

Thanks for the tip, but this kext is loaded in here. I use hardware growl and I see my iPod when plugged being recognized, but it does not mount. For the iPhone, I just get after a while a "iPhone disconnected" message, but never the connected one.

I will try to backup all my kext's and overwrite them to see if it may be an issue with them being loaded from S/L/E instead of supposed EFI partition.

Thanks again.

Hi, yes it is also loaded here as said, but when applying just on top again, suddenly mounting works, .... don't know why, strange but working...

Looks like there is a bug on Munky's boot code. I replaced /S/L/E/System.kext with a 10.5.5 copy and mounting just start working back. I had reported on his thread, hopefully it will get fixed soon.

Meanwhile, I am living with a couple modified kext's.

Thanks.

Did not patch DSDT

also note that sonotone just updated his patcher. good luck

OK, this is what I just did:

- Clean install of iATKOS 5i 10.5.5

- Made sure I had AppleIntelCpuPowerManagement.kext in S/L/E

- Used Software Update to install 10.5.6

- Rebooted with no problem - 10.5.6 running after install

No DSDT patching

The only problem I had was opening .dmg's (paniced the system) after reboot into 10.5.6.

So I edited my com.Apple.Boot.plist:

- Changed <key>Kernel</key>

<string>custom</string>

to <key>Kernel</key>

<string>mach_kernel</string>

& BINGO! Back in business, and I removed AppleIntelCpuPowerManagement.kext

For others out there with the Abit IP35 Pro MB. I haven't tried all the options out there and I am still rather new to a lot of what's going on but my system is almost fully operational except for the system profiler doesn't show everything.

The system runs pretty good with all vanilla. However, with the system untouched including the vanilla kernel and vanilla AppleSMBios.kext reboot, shutdown, logmein, Time Machine, Final Cut Pro and Imovie MTS file import would not work correctly. I have been running my system since 10.5.1 but I will go through what I did since 10.5.4.

I am using the Abit IP35 Pro MB, 8GB ram, Q6600 proc, 8800GTS 320MB graphics, onboard sound, sata cdrom drive, and 2 500GB disks. One disk for the system and one for Time Machine. I have the latest bios on the MB and I have AHCI enabled and the Sata/Pata controller disabled. For the 10.5.4 install I used the iATKOS 10.5.4 install dvd. I have also used the iATKOS 10.5.5 install dvd and it works great also. I basically go vanilla for the kernel but on the 10.5.4 install I chose the netkas AppleSMBios.kext. I used the efi strings for my 8800 320MB card. After the install there a few things not right. Sound doesn't work, graphics QE not working, shutdown and restart don't work. To fix these I run the NVinstaller v.52 for the graphics. Reboot and graphics are a go. For the sound I run the ALC888Audio.mpkg, reboot, then install the ALCInject.kext and AppleHDA.kext, and the reboot. Then sound is working. At this point the only thing not working is the shutdown and restart. However, when I update to 10.5.5 I lose sound and Time Machine can't find the backup volume. I repeat the steps for sound and that's working. As for Time Machine, I have to restore an older IONetworkingFamily.kext to fix Time Machine. And shutdown and restart still don't work. I prep my system for the 10.5.6 upgrade by upgrading to efi v9 and performing the dsdt patch and making sure I have the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext from the 10.5.5 update installed. The update works great but after the system comes up I have a few things not working. Sound, shutdown and restart, and iMovie and FCP MTS file import. I do the same re-install of my sound card drivers and that's good. With the 10.5.6 update the AppleSMBios.kext gets refreshed so I replaced the new one with the macdotnub AppleSMBios-28. That fixed the shutdown and restart issue and iMovie and FCP work properly now and logmein works great.

I know there are probably several things I could be doing to shorten this process, however this process does work for me. As I find time to screw around with the system more and more I will try new things. As for Time Machine, its been my savior. It really does work well. As for this forum, you ladies and gents all rock. I couldn't have done this without you and look forward to trying new and better things.

My 2 cents on the upgrade. I started with the JaS 10.5.4 install. Upgraded it to 10.5.5 and now to 10.5.6 using the following method. I have 2 partitions on my harddrive so I cloned the boot disk using the free software superduper. This is because you don't have to worry about messing up your orignal boot disk incase things don't work out. Then boot of the second partition and use the following method to upgrade to 10.5.6

1- Download the 10.5.6 patch.

Before installing the patch - open a terminal window and run the following script in it before installing the patch

Open Terminal

sudo -s

*type password*

while sleep 1; do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext; done

while the script is running, run/install the patch.

After the patch has installed, you may have to reboot twice before the machine comes up completely ( first time it will hang at MAC_REBOOT ). Then in my case, i had to revert back my video drivers to the ones that came on the JaS install disk using PACIFIST and had to reinstall my sound drivers. Other than that I had no other issues with USB or slow mouse or anything else. If all works then you can apple the same procedure to the actual boot disk.

Not sure if this procedure will work with other flavors but worked fine for JaS.

Was running 10.5.5 with 9.5.0 XNU Voodoo kernel with Chameleon 1.0.11, do DSDT patcher

Updated to 1.0.12 Chameleon, with DSDT patcher, standalone 10.5.6 updater - always hung at "Waiting for root device"

Rolled back to 1.0.11, no DSDT patcher, replaced XNU kernel with Vanilla from installer using Pacifist - booted, worked like a charm. Installed the 10.5.6 update the "standard" way - using the do while.. ; done loop to delete the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext on the fly, edited the InstallAtStartup script to remove "Do Not Steal OS X.kext" and replaced it with "dsmos.kext".

All is working smooth on boot. Sleeps and wakes from sleep, too.

Clock isn't correct anymore, so I assume the new XNU Voodoo kernel will fix that again.

Not off to a great start. I lost shutdown and the laptop is running hot. I used PCWiz's installer tool to install the latest EFI/Chameleon but for some reason Voodoo kernel wasn't happy with this - the system clock and VLC player/itunes were running very fast. I had the same problem some months ago when installing Chameleon 1.0.11 with version 1.5.0 of his excellent tools utility but solved it on someone's advice by reverting to 1.4.9 and Voodoo then behaved itself. On a hunch, I ran that tool today and installed the old 1.0.11 version of over the new version. That fixed the speed issues problem. I then used his installer tool, again, to reinstall the latest Chameleon and this time it works. I'm not sure what 1.49 is doing that 1.50 and the newer installer tool don't.

Any suggestions what to do about heat and shutdown? The laptop was always running on the warm side, now with 10.5.6 it's 8 degrees C warmer and uncomfortable, the fan often on. Re shutdown, I am using 10.5.5's system kext, smbios and Nan's AplleSMBIOSEFI.kext, as advised by the Voodoo group for using 9.5.0 XNU Voodoo kernel with 10.5.5; they mention using 10.5.5 system kext if you want to use the 9.5.0 kernel in 10.5.6. Someone mentioned using macdotnub AppleSMBios-28 to solve shutdown but I have only been able to find version 27. The screen goes blank at shutdown but the power button remains illuminated and the fan still running.

I have tried the OpenHaltRestart.kext from Psystar but still no Shutdown.

You need to be running the vanilla ACPIPlatform for it to work properly for your 8C hotter than sounds like the IntelCPUManagement loaded check if it is then rename/delete from system.
