Many things could go wrong. I did same to mine. Then I installed the PM Disabler and the upgrade process went through, but could not boot.

Then managed to boot by using the boot 132 method and verbose mode but nothing worked (sound, video, etc).

Now I restored 10.5.5 from my TM backup and everything is back to normal.

Damn 10.5.6, wasted 12 hours trying to fix the bloody thing.

Good luck!

First time update stopped at 34%

then I rebooted from usb disk changed smbios and acpi kext hdakext and changed kernel working ok

I then reinstalled again with netkas trick about apple cpu power managment this time installation finished

Changed again all above kexts

All ok but I get this on boot up

Dec 17 10:10:44 localhost kernel[0]: warning: skipping personalities in blacklisted kext com.apple.driver.AppleHWSensor

Dec 17 10:10:44 localhost kernel[0]: warning: skipping personalities in blacklisted kext com.apple.Dont_Steal_Mac_OS_X

Dec 17 10:10:44 localhost kextd[10]: notice - UUID of on-disk kernel (/mach_kernel) does not match running kernel

Dec 17 10:36:24 localhost kernel[0]: warning: skipping personalities in blacklisted kext com.apple.driver.AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement

any ideas???????

If I boot with kernel from update with cpus=1 otherwise does not boot I get lots of errors from system log.........

system_log.zip

check you settings in the preference panel, mine had changed to headphone output and thus no sound... changed it to line-out and all is as it should be...

I sincerely hope you're right mate. Everything went fine updating the vanilla 10.5.5 install on my P5E other than sound stopped working. Can still see the audio controls, but no output apart from front panel headphones. Will check pref panel later!

install went fine but when i reinstalled my audio kext the speaker icon is show but i cant get the audio to play any help is welcome

Try to change the audio output device (System Preferences or /Applications/Audio Midi Setup).

Install from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6 went great with DSDT. QE/CI still fully supported, fireface800 sound still works. Seems very stable, quicker boot time.

However, not is all roses pancakes {censored} and giggles...

Since the installation:

1) All the built in hard drives show up as yellow removables again... They do not have firewire/usb tags as the real ones do, but they don't show up as internal drives nontheless.

2) Time machine not working. Tried to apply Ethernet EFI string fix with PCWiz UInstaller and I get

"AppleScript Error

cp: directory /Users/Livingroom/Documents/OXS86ToolsGFX does not exist (1)"

Tried reinstalling gfxutil as well as creating the folder on my own and no dice. Time machine says "...could not be configured. The built in network interface could not be found."

3) Built in ALC888 audio is no longer available. Tried repatching via ox86tools to no avail.

Other than that system seems to be working great. Not using the EFI that came with UInstaller but on older version of isolinux tailored to the EP35-DS3L and works no problem.

If someonehad any advice, id be super-appreciative. :D

Thanks

About the "dmg mounting" problem...

The solution is using Seatbelt.kext from 10.5.5, as stated..

Using Toast (or any other app that mounts images without using the system, i think..) does the trick too.

Just a tip..

Thanks for the advice (Voodoo 9.5 Kernel/System.kext 10.5.6) But what do you recommend?

using old Seatbelt.kext or trying to boot with "new kernel" (afraid to lack of knowledge that even to try booting other kernel can "harm" the system)

any downfalls with either of this methods?

thanks in advance,

BTW: Mounting USB HDD won't work since update.

MSI Neo2 FR -> Leo 4 ALL 10.5.2 -> .3 > .4 >.5 > voodoo 1.0 revA -> 10.5.6 Combo

motherboard: ga-ep45-ds3

updated fine, the only thing that does not work is sound. when i look at system information, i see:

Intel High Definition Audio:

Device ID: 0x1458A002

Audio ID: 12

Available Devices:

was using the taruga (i think) to get audio, but that no longer works by the looks of things. when trying to load the kexts that were working;

punisher:kext admin$ ls

AppleHDA.kext HDAEnabler.kext

punisher:kext admin$ sudo chown -R root:wheel *

punisher:kext admin$ sudo chmod -R 755 *

punisher:kext admin$ sudo mv *.kext /System/Library/Extensions

punisher:kext admin$ cd /System/Library/Extensions

punisher:Extensions admin$ sudo kextload HDAEnabler.kext

kextload: HDAEnabler.kext loaded successfully

punisher:Extensions admin$ sudo kextload AppleHDA.kext/

kextload: loaded version 1.6.2a37 of module com.apple.iokit.IOHDAFamily differs from requested version 1.5.7a24

kextload: a link/load error occured for kernel extension AppleHDA.kext/

link/load failed for extension AppleHDA.kext/

(run kextload with -t for diagnostic output)

punisher:Extensions admin$

any ideas?

hi all,,

wanna ask,,

to you all guys who have succeeded updating

did you edit script in /System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/1

replace string /System/Library/Extensions/Dont Steal Mac OS X.kext with dsmos.kext

coz i still use dsmos.kext and not using appledecrypt, also don't have extra folder in my system

thanks in advanced

note : 10.5.5, using vanilla kernel, pc efi 9, dsdt.aml, and cpupmdisabler

ready to update but still confuse wheter i have to edit script or not like netkas previously said

also,, haven't look inside of the update dmg file, still in downloading process coz of very limited bandwith (from Indonesia though :) )

2) Time machine not working. ...

I'm not sure about the other stuff... sounds like you had your kexts somewhere they could be overwritten by Apple's. I still haven't done the update yet as I never took the time to get a Boot-132 -based start-up working. I'm too busy now, really, but still was looking through this thread to see what I could learn about the process. I must say, I find a lot of it confusing, so I'm hoping that I can find a good tutorial to take me through the steps when I get back from the holidays. In any case, I think your TimeMachine issue can be fixed by following these steps (quoted from MacUser2525 on page 2 of this thread):

Copy the file contained in the attachment into the /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/MacOS/ directory over-writing the one already there then as root in Terminal.

 rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/Caches
rm -r /System/Library/Caches
rm /System/Library/Extensions.mkext

Reboot then hit the F8 key when the drive starts to be accessed to get to the Darwin boot loader to type in then enter key -f to force the reloading/caching of all .kext on the system it should now work.

Go to the original post to download the replacement for your IONetworkingFamily kext (file attached). I'm guessing you'll get the rest solved in a similar manner.

HTH,

JG

Worked great (I posted in error as a new topic)

P5W DH Deluxe with x1900xtx vid card... Q6600 quad core 4 gb ram - wifi still not working, though...

Everything working well - but WHY are the drive icons orange?? They aren't on my other macs...

:)

Not your FireWire i suppose ?

for orange icons you've to edit IOAHCIBlockStorage yhre is a fix somewhere

Hi guys, I have a question for Kalyway leopard users. Can any of you send me the Chess application from leopard? I will like to test it, I am using iAtkos 1.0 and this distro does not come with Chess. I will appreciate it.

And what is more my sound doesn't work too. My mainboard is GA-EP35-DS4 with Intel e8400 on board.

you probably have some kind of tools that is blocking new kernels

Firewire anyone?

I have a PCI firewire, working pretty good.

Before update my kernel was correct 9.5.0 i've done everything step by step with the guide, so i have no idea what kind of tools could block kernels

If you kernel was 9.5.0 then I have not idea what the heck is going on in your system.

Thanks Maclancer, I have an ASUS barebone with ASUS P5K-VM motherboard that has integrated VIA Firewire, it was working well on 10.5.5 with Voodoo kernel.

Now Firewire is gone... (working with PcEfiv9 with Netkas instructions and dsdt.aml) Hope someone find a fix.

Wheeeeee 10.5.6!! 2 down, 2 to go!

Uh.. If anyone's managed to do this on an Apple software raid volume, which it boots into (chameleon), lemme know. Saving that for last.

yes - raid patched here with dsdt and working :)

worked for me only with the "boot acpi 12" version from the dsdt thread. copy both - the dsdt.aml and the boot file into each "boot os x" partition of your raid disks. I expected also pc efi v9 to do the job, but unfortunately didn´t work for me.

****** GOOD NEWS ******

For those who has mouse lag while itunes or quicktime player is running after 10.5.6 is updated.

There is a work around to solve this problem.

This problem may be caused by some of library/framework of quicktime player version 7.5.5

My solution is to download to lower version. For mine, I fall back to version 7.4.5, mouse lag problem is gone. :)

For others, you can try 7.5

PS since old version quicktime installer will not allow you to install if your system has a higher version of quicktime, so I used pacifist to install old version quicktime.
