Boot into safe mode using -X at the boot menu.

Go into System/Library/Extensions and REMOVE the AppleIntelGMA950GA.plugin file. Go into OSX86Tools and turn on QuartzGL. Reboot.

I'm running 1900x1200 on a 24" dell monitor. No artifacts.

TSurge, why are you not at 10.5.6?

Run the combo update, reboot, then re-install all the kexts (EXCEPT for the .plugin file.)

Thanks it was that plugin file. I am installing 10.5.6 updated now. I know what not to install this time ^_^

@gemini: do as conlan says after software update to 10.5.6 (or use combo update). ATM i'm working at 1680x1050@60hz of resolution on a 22" lcd monitor, maybe a higher resolution is possible.

If you get artifacts on the screen try OcciJano' s DSDT.aml and than install these video kexts Stock kext 10.5.6.

I now have full resolution change, QE, CI and rotation! -->and a beer and a big thank for this goes to dqb (and dr.Hurt of course).

bye

First off I want to say thanks to everyone on here for all the help! I am down to 2 issues after installing the 10.5.6 update. First one is I can't get the 1920x1200 or even 1900x1200. (not an option) Also the video does not work when I try to come out of sleep mode. I tried both S1 and S3 i bios but same thing. It makes the sound like it is coming out of sleep but the monitor is black and gets no signal.

I tried the above kext and dsdt and run the repair but the desktop doesn't load. I just get to the blue/green screen without mouse or anything and it just hangs.

Any ideas what to try since I assume my sleep issue is related to my video kext.

@conlan, @Dorgan: Thanks a bunch for the help. I did as you suggested and the machine is up and running with 10.5.6 and all the latest software updates at 1280x1024. Way cool!

I've only noticed one minor anomaly... Neither the CPU type, nor the speed is being reported correctly. I applied the fix iSynapse mentioned in his message here, but as mentioned that only fixes the "About This Mac" screen. I'm sure this is not going to cause any issues, but if you have a solution, please share.

Thanks again.

Upon rebooting now, however... I get the following errors right after the BIOS/post code splash screen:

Boot0: GPT

Boot0: HFS+

Boot0: error

If I boot via Boot132 first, I can go into the OS just fine as always.

So, it appears there's something w/ the Chameleon step that's screwing me up? Any help would be much appreciated.

Solved! Finally (lucky!) found an article on another forum where someone was having the exact same problem. Turns out Chamelon does NOT like 1.5TB drives?!?

Solution was to add another partition to my drive. Once I did that and started from scratch, I'm now able to boot directly from the HDD. Video is perfect... can go all the way to 1920x1080. Audio is not working... shows as AppleHD only even though I'm only using the std rear out and not HD. Not worried about this one, I'm sure it's an easy fix. Just very happy that I'm booting w/o issues now. Time to install iLife and iWork'09! :)

Here is a SS of what I see. No 1900x1200 or 1920x1200 :P

Yeah, see where it says "No Display Connected"? It's not detecting your monitor so it's giving you the basic available resolutions. Mine detecetd my specific monitor and gave me the available resultions. I'd so a search for "no display connected" or search for setting your default resolution. I know where some way to do that on boot using one of the plists, but I don't know specifics on that.

Thanks to everyone here, I am up and running using the package from the first post. I am on ideneb 1.3; selected just the azalia audio and installed the dsdt.dsl and 10.5.6 gma kexts. the only thing missing is rotate, but I think that i due to my monitor.

It really is the perfect internet machine

The southbridge, the exposed chip on the board, runs really warm on my board, too warm to touch more than a few seconds.

I installed the scythe mini kaze fan to replace the original one, its much more quiet but perhaps the airflow is lower. I read the overflowing air from the northbridge is supposed to help cool the processor as well as the southbridge.

Is it normal that the southbridge gets that warm and did any of you install heatsinks on it?

And will a heatsink make a difference even if theres not enough airflow to transport the heat?

I don't want to make it worse

I'm new to heatsink theory :-)

See my post in the other D945GCLF2 thread to see how I handled cooling.

I have absolutely no luck getting sound working... I am using xxx 10.5.6 which has an alc662.pkg but it doesnt work. So I installed the hda and azalia pkgs and tried putting in the 662.txt which says its for an asus board...still no work. I don't know how to do the EFI stuff yet. Any help would be appreciated.

First I would like to thank iSynapse for creating this thread and putting the package together. Also thanks for all he other contributors for the helpful hints.

I'm building my machine and will be using this motherboard with a retail Leopard 10.5.0 DVD. I do have a couple of question before I venture down the installation path though:

- I'd like to run as high of a resolution as possible. Should I install all the kexts in the video folder? If so, do they need to be installed in any particular order?

- Should all the kexts in the system folder be installed? Do they need to be installed in any particular order?

Also, is a reboot necessary after OSX86Tools installs each kext file?

Thanks for your help.

My experience was that installing the .plugin file caused issues. You'd get a black screen on boot up and could not see the desktop. I've verified with others that this is an issue.

I'd suggest removing the .plugin file from the video directory, then install everything in that folder.

Besides that, Install everything and you should be good to go :D

I have had my machine up and running for a few weeks now. It's all working fine except for the odd occasion when it goes to sleep and I have to turn it off to get it to respond.

This is an odd motherboard though, i can play 720p movies no problem but it struggles to run the itunes visualizer!

I am going to use this machine as a wife friendly media box. I have boxee running OK and the apple remote works well with remote buddy and an old ehome receiver.

Shame about the visualizer though.

funny cause i am running kalyway 10.5.5 and my system is playing the itunes visualizer just fine, but cannot run 720p smoothly. 1080p is like 2 fps... lol

I have the D945GCLF2 on order. What I've decided to do is install OS X onto the hard drive I'm going to use with it using my existing Mac.

I should be able to install the Retail DVD, updates, drivers, chameleon, EFI strings, etc all from my existing installation. Provided it all goes smoothly, I should be able to pop the drive in the new D945GCLF2 system, boot up, and be all set.

I'll let you guys know how it goes.

What I've Done So Far:

Used Uinstaller to install Retail DVD 10.5.4

Used Uinstaller to:

Set Boot Timeout to 5 seconds.

Set Native Boot Resolution to: 2560 x 1600

Install PC_EFI v9 Chameleon Edition 1.0.12

Apply Ethernet EFI String (Time Machine Fix)

Apply EFI String for video card Intel GMA950

Next I installed the 10.5.6 Combo Update.

Then I used Uinstaller to install the system kexts.

Following this I rebooted my machine (the machine I used to do the install to the spare hard drive is in my sig) and Leopard booted into the Welcome video and setup. I shut down at this point, preserving the new setup for when I install the hard drive into the D945GCFL2 system.

The only thing I haven't done is install the Audio (Azalia). I will do that from inside Leopard once the hard drive is installed in D945GCFL2.

For now, I wait for the board to arrive. When it does, I'll attach the hard drive and see if it runs. It should.

TV-out Works! Try boot only whith s-video cable conected. Original kexts + dsdt

But not posibilty to change resolution. Kexts from package only show blue screen.

Help much apreciated.

Hi!

Can you tell me some more about the KEXTs you are using for the working tv-out? Version numbers?

I tried with several, but got only blue screen...

Thanks in advance!

Maybe it's just me but when I run Geekbench it still recognizes it as a hackintosh. Is this normal? Shouldn't it be seen as a legit mac instead?

The first thing I did after registering the new user was to install the 10.5.6 combo upd. Then restart again using the boot132 cd. Then the kexts/patch/bootloader stuff.

Also I only used the following kexts:

AppleAzaliaAudio

AppleIntelGMA950.kext

AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext

OpenHaltRestart

AppleDecrypt

Disabler

I started with just the first four kexts then added the rest when it won't boot (it just stays in the gray apple logo screen).

So did I forget anything? Everything seems to be working fine, even sleep works like charm.

Big Thanks to iSynapse ...

Thank you to Aargh-a-knot ...

Here is what I did to get mine working:

1. Boot 132 + Retail 10.5.4 install

2. 10.5.6 combo update, manual install. Forced reboot

3. Install video kexts + repair permissions and clear extension cache, reboot

4. Install System and Audio Kexts + repair permissions and clear extension cache, reboot

Note: If I install all the kexts at once, my monitor would not get detected, this is why I installed them separately

5. Install bootloader

6. I did not patch using the DSDT patcher gui

7. Run the fdisk command

8. Add ethernet EFI string using OSX86 tools, reboot

9. Install is working great :)

Just wanted to confirm i used this to get my stock D945GCLF2 running

Big thanks to All those Involved.. One question.. i notice laggy video/artifacts i used the drivers from package 2.5 .. are then better GMA950+svideo kexts i can try?

Pics Attached..

Thanks for this nice Guide! (Ive installed 10.5.6 with this guide and package)

MAC OS runs perfect!

Only one Problem:

After installing Natit.kext for my Geforce6200PCI Card, sleep mode fails!

Without this kext Sleep mode runs perfekt too.

I used Nvinject , but same result!

I used only EFI String , same result!

Remember its an PCI Card!

If you try to use a PCI GFX card you will not be able to get QE/CI enabled according to a large number of posts on this forum.

I'd suggest using the onboard video, or you'll find a large number of apps won't work properly without QE/CI/OGL.

first off thanks to everyone participating in this thread..

i have everything up ok so far.. my problem is this: i have a mixed network some mac and some pc. this new atom sys does not see other macs on my network, they only show up as windows PCs. on all of my other macs they each show up as 2 different computers (a pc and a mac connection point for each). but on the new atom sys they only show up as pc. but the atom shows up as both mac and pc on the other macs.

i have "wins" set to mshome like all the other computers, and i have appletalk turned on, on all the macs.

its not a big deal it just inhibits a few features like screen sharing and whatnot..

any ideas?

also, any one figure out how to get the video to work properly with the the s-video? if i use none of the video kext the s-video out works fine but the svga has a fixed resolution. and if i use the kext the svga is fine but the s-video is a blue screen.

I have done thins.. still having artifact issues... not often.. and not something that isn stressing me.

having done some testing .. i cant see all that much improvement in speed between a atom 330 / atom 270 (as i have a msi wind running OSX also). but 2 different install methods ..

I have a DG45FC (core 2 duo) .. if only there were drivers for 4500HD intel gfx .. would make an awesome OSX pc.

Thanks all for this thread.. using my new mini mac as main pc.. now looking at building a i7 intel mac box for my gaming needs.

cheers

btw i own 3 retail copys of 10.5.4 i fully support apple by buying the OS. as i do with lots of "download to test first" software.

Actually,

Lately I've been noticing some weird artifacts (small squares) that will appear for a few seconds and immediately disappear, sometimes when switching windows. It's nothing serious however, but this is also with QuartzGL installed.

Oh well.. it's a $220 Mac. I'm thrilled.
