I hope Psystar wins the possible case which Apple may or may not bring to the table. If Psystar wins I could buy one of their awesome computers and finally be able to experience "the apple experience" and not have to put up with defragging my hardrive, worrying about viruses, etc...

Netkas doesn't even own EFI all of the work put into OSX 86 isn't copyrighted its all open source code so Psystar owns now credit to anyone except the Insanely Mac Community. So people please hope they win because people like me who want to try OSX can do that and enjoy it. Although I would most likely not buy a imac or any mac computer(80% mark up+loyalties+tax= me not wanting to buy a mac for many reasons).

I'd rather buy a hackintosh built by OSX86 contributors like Netkas that directly funds the community. (Let's talk business, since I got the connections, people :) ) These people would support the customers better than Psystar ever could.

Psystar hasn't done anything for us.

Pystar should donate a sum of the money it recieves for it's computers to the OSX86 communitiy.

Thats a really good idea. Apple have let the OSx86 community go on for so long, maybe they actualy like the people who make this all happen.

does anybody know which hacked leopard disc they are using?

I'm thinking that they would want, for legal purposes, to install (the same method as Brazil Mac) via a

bootable USB thumb drive combined with the retail Leopard DVD.

Otherwise, if they were using a Kalway or some other "pre-hacked" install DVD, why didn't they (Psystar) include said disc for the end-user to be able to re-install the O.S. in case of system crash/HD failure/botched Apple update?

As far as Psystar being morally obligated to support the InsanelyMac web site: maybe to the same degree that Sears should help support Freespire, when they sell their low-priced Freespire (Linux) PC.

$299, less a $100 rebate: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00373907000P

The way this whole situation is shaking out is completely fascinating to me. While I don't like the fact that Psystar is profiting from the work of the OSx86 developers, I think at the very least if they start selling a lot of machines it should be a wakeup call to Apple:

The hole in your product matrix is a problem. You are leaving money on the table and this is what happens when people get desperate. The value of the Mac is not simply in your "vision" for the platform. The value is in OS X.

Maybe if this really gets off the ground we will see an xMac on the way out the door.

vaporATX,

After having seen your signature, I would like to ask where you bought your Aqua NBridge cooler and is it NSB-4a ? I had locate one dealer in NL (I am from Belgium), but the link is dead and another dealer in Nl is out of stock.

No, it's a Twinplex Pro. See here: http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/s...rs_1996_5193788

I bought it, a Cuplex XT cpu block, Aquagra FX gpu block, and a Aquastream XT pump off of ebay.

I think this is pointless. If a regular person buys this, they wont be able to update and will brick the thing if they try to. No way will most people be able to follow a guide on InsanelyMac.

Anyone who is familiar with OSX86 can build a better one for the same price. Companies will not buy this because the legality is hazy. So what exactly is the market for this computer?

Torvalds is not the only developer of the linux kernel did he pay those who helped out?

Nobody will ever know for certain all the financial details that were running in the background after the Red Hat deal. But that's totally irrelevant as Linus is in fact the originator, he was first, not Red Hat.

Harshly said, all the other developers scattered around the world jumped on the bandwagon. If and how much they were paid for their efforts, directly or indirectly, is actually none of anybody's business. Do you tell everybody how much money you earn (or not earn) when you get on a job?

is the insanelymac community really going to help when there is a massive influx of Psystar customers wanting to update their open computers they bought?

keep in mind the people that are buying these things are going to need their hand held the whole time...

basically psystar is doing a churn and burn.. then its going to be up to the community to help all these poor people.

Psystar taking their profit and not giving a penny to anyone.

concluded they profit is not that much anyways... if they get parts form newegg.

this is a little disturbing to me... i could never do that to my customers i were them its just not nice.

 its the american way to stick it in the butt of the hardworking people that did all the testing and work, the people that did it to make a difference for the community. People with pride and detection.

And to have Psystar to take that form all of you, just like that and used for their own greedy greasy profit.

On top of all this we all know that with the updates apple is going to break these machines... every one of them is going to stop working..

i mean come on these guys over at psystar are evil sobs..

their way out will be to Just install Linux or Windows, even thought the people were conned into buying it because it's

a mac right?????

This {censored} is a Fing Scam and makes me mad.

if you are a company for profit then you need to buy a real mac...

The less fortunate people use osx86 because they could not afford a real mac anyways.

:(

lol, they said that it is LOUD.

http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/30/psystar...arks-and-video/

It's LOUD. Crazy loud. OS X doesn't seem to interface with the fan controller, so it runs at full tilt all the time. It doesn't really come across on the video, but it's loud enough so that it's hard to talk on the phone when the machine is running. There's no way we could deal with this thing on a daily basis.

is it the heatsink, power supply or case fans that are loud???

my coolermaster case fans were real loud so i replaced them with zalman silent fans... and my thermaltake heatsink and antec power supply have adjustable controls for the fan speed... too bad i won't be usin' any of these parts when i upgrade my pc to a dual or quad core chip, i'm replacin' everything except for the hard drive and dvd burner (i do music production so i may need a pc that won't "lag" on me).

could the one who got open computer make a dump of ioreg and upload it somewhere ?ioreg -l -w0 > ioservice.dumpioreg -l -w0 -p IODeviceTree> iodt.dump
That's exactly what Apple is doing right now, I believe. Deterrence, not law. I give Apple about four months to come up with something that breaks each and every one of hackintosh machines. netkas, you are not going to ban all G31M-S2L motherboards, are you? G31M-S2L seems to be such a good motherboard used by many people for hackintoshes.

Who knows his hackintosh? Who's your daddy?
the pics show a manual for ga-g31m-s2l motherboard. Is that for the $399 open hack?It has x3100 onboard grphx.
It's 3100 not X3100. Only laptops sport GMA X3100. Hence Open Computer without video upgrade cannot use G31M-S2L. I bet Open Computer without video upgrade uses Gigabyte 945GM-S2. All in, (again?) including my super-duper Hac Pro <_< (lookie-lookie my signature)
We're now offering a wireless PCI card as part of the Open and OpenPro Computer configurations.
$90.00 for a wireless PCI card? Hope it's at least a draft-N. Anyhoo, they won't be able to put FireWire and wireless cards together in Open Computer. Good luck with that.

With the way the economy is going now and the downward spin it is going I believe Apple may just open up their OS fully to PC users. You think it is bad now wait until These companies like this are drained of their bank accounts. Then you will see change. It is only going to get worse for the consumer and businesses alike. Just remember I told you so. As for Pystar well I am on their side but on Apple's side also. Its like a catch 22, you want to see OSx on PC legally and seeing somebody finally standing up and doing it is great. I just hope both Apple and Pystar and others will benefit from all of this.

Well aren't they using video cards that Apple uses in their own machines? If so then they might not even need third party kexts to get it working, amirite? They obviously have Leopard Graphics Update installed. It will be quite interesting to see how things pan out as Apple release updates.

That's a really good idea. Practically, though, how would that be done?

Say, hypothetically, I'm a small computer (PC) builder and I want to LICENCE Kalyway, or another OSX hack to offer to my customers in addition to Linux and/or Windows... Who do I deal with? Who is the OSX86 "community"?

Serious question.

(BTW, I installed the AMD Leopard 10.5.2 on my Shuttle SN26P - sound (onboard Via Envy24), sleep and shutdown do not work, everything else does. Neither Kalyway nor Leo4all v3 managed to install.)
