  1. this thread's title is MORE misleadin' than the pc magazine article (and i don't like pc magazine, i'd rather read pc world's internet articles whenever possible). go back and read allessandro's quote. and then show me where is says it is "IMPOSSIBLE" i'll quote allessandro's quote. he's tellin' ppl that they can http://justfcukinggoogleit.com (spell the f word correctly and the link will work) and find osx86 themselves but that he's not goin' to help them out. do you know how many ppl would try to sue pc magazine if he gave out links to these hacks (aka osx86) websites and they ended up brickin' their pc's. the average person uses the factory settings on their pc's and they don't care about "makin' their pc run more efficiently". edit: also, not many pc magazines will run the risk of givin' out links for "hacks" and then havin' to deal with apple when they call and threaten them to pull the magazine 'cause of the publishment of hacks vs. "or else".

    Firefox 3.0 RC1 Released!

from what i hear there will only be one RC and the final version will be out in late may or early june (dependin' on how quickly they can fix all of the bugs). i haven't dl'ed RC1, i'm waitin' for the final version.
  5. why don't somebody just dl psystar's servic packs and then dl IM's service packs. are they the same files??? end of discussion. either there are the same or they are not.
  6. the heads of apple probably didn't give out that memo to all of their employees. but i'm sure that the media has tried contactin' apple's top management for a quote for their psystar articles... so somebody up there has to know about it. but then again, i'd wouldn't be surprised if apple never has heard about psystar. i made some threads on other forums that i go askin' who has a hackintosh and those threads have had very few responses. i think if you don't care about osx's and apple, then those psystar articles and digg submissions were probably ignored by the majority of the net. or, maybe apple doesn't consider them a threat unless they make into cnn, msnbc, foxnews...

    ZDNet's Latest OSX86 Review

yea, mods don't pick on ppl. i happen to mod a forum and i can second macgirl's comments. mods can't close accounts or change the date and time of your post. i've been on forums were the mods are a55holes and this is not one of those forums. anyways, nice article, better than the article on macword (i believe) on which they told you how to build a hackintosh (which they called a frankenmac, not a hackintosh).
  8. i agree with you. i see psystar as any other person or company that buys parts off of newegg, builds a pc and then sells it on ebay or craigslist for a profit. they won't make the same profit margins as dell or hp 'cause dell and hp buys their parts at wholesale prices (in other words, cheaper than newegg prices... but i "betcha" that if you ordered 1,000-10,000+ of the same part from newegg, newegg would sell it to you for "wholesale prices" too...). for the buyer, it is buyer beware because the majority of the "custom builder pc" sellers offer no warranty and you never know how long the pc will last with no problems (especially is you are usin' windows xp or vista). i've actually thought about this (sellin' custom pc's) but by the time i build a pc with the BEST, not cheapest parts (to ensure a long shelf life) and buy windows xp pro (just to avoid a piracy lawsuit from microsoft, i could preload my college's faculty/staff aka corporate version of xp pro for them and give them a cd-r of my cd), the pc will cost more than a dell or hp (i could build it for cheaper but cheap parts will just cause you problems in the long run) (at least it will be cheaper than other gamin' pc's similarly equipped like alienware). the only market for this pc would be a pc gamer wouldn doesn't mind buyin' a pc for over $500. but then, most pc gamers will build their own pc. plus, this person would call me for tech support everytime the pc has problems and i wouldn't be able to fix it for them. when my custom pc malfunctions and i can't find a solution on google, i take it to the pc repairman (i'm all hardware, not software). on the apple eula and the windows/ie argument, i'm not sure if a court would let a company use that as a precedent. i'd rather let somebody use that in a court of law and see what the judge says before i render my opinion. yep, i agree with badeavasile. psystar is usin' the cheapest parts available and that will lead to a short shelf life of the pc. i'm not sure rather to blame psystar for usin' the cheapest parts or on the customers who want to buy the cheapest pc available. i "betcha" that a short shelf life will 'cause many of psystar's customers to avoid buyin' from psystar a 2nd time. remember, you get what you pay for.

    SP3 for XP

as i said before... that is the first reason why i don't trust ms updates until they fix the bugs. here is my 2nd reason. i'll let other ppl be the guinea pigs, find all of the bugs, find a way to fix the bugs and then i'll dl the update when everything is 100% safe. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=104524 my pc is an amd, custom built by me. i can build pc's (hardware) but i can fix software problems... so i'm not about to take my pc to a pc repair shop and pay $70+ to fix something the a sp messed up. it's better to wait a couple of months and let them work out all the bugs ('cause you don't find the bugs until you release it to the end users... end users do things that the programmers never dream of doin' in their lab tests while searchin' for bugs).
  10. XP SP3 Causes AMD PC's To Reboot Endlessly http://blogs.pcworld.com/staffblog/archives/006932.html http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,2302371,00.asp http://www.computerworld.com/action/articl...ticleId=9084418 http://www.news.com/8301-13860_3-9941687-56.html?tag=blog.1

    SP3 for XP

that is the second reason why i don't want sp3 yet. i think it still has bugs in it and i'm waitin' for everybody to post on the net their problems. when the bugs are worked out in a couple of months then i'll dl it (and hopefully my pc will be upgraded by then).

    SP3 for XP

the last update i installed fcuked up my pc and i couldn't run wow or cs 1.6 (3d acceleration was missin' for some odd reason). so i had to use a previous restore point so that i could play games again (reinstallin' and/or dlin' and installin' the latest ati drivers and software would not fix the problem). so i won't be makin' the switch to sp3 until i upgrade my pc to a new mb, video card and dualcore/quadcore processor...
  13. amd/ati already offers a processor that does this. nvidia hasn't gone out of business. gamers will always buy a dedicated video card. this is for ppl you just need a pc to surf the net, run ms office, ect.. just look at the size of top end gaming cards. you have to sacrifice performance when you decrease the cards size so that it will fit on a processor. this is for "mainstream" pc consumers and the ppl who buy nvidia cards are "mainstream" pc consumers, they are "pc gaming" consumers ("budget/entry-level" nvidia cards are excluded from this argument 'cause ppl who buy those cards just need a video card so that they can connect their monitor to it 'cause their motherboards doesn't have an integrated video cards...). i think i found your source http://www.news.com/8301-13579_3-9895892-37.html?tag=blog.4

Hackintosh on eBay: Preloaded with Leopard

^it's not only ebay. craigslist too. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&saf...amp;btnG=Search i've posted this before... http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...mp;#entry713508 lots of ppl are sellin' hackintoshes on craigslist. i wonder if any of them are IM members? i heard that psystar is just the FIRST U.S. website/company to sell hackintoshes. i've heard that other countries have websites/companies that sell hackintoshes, legal or illegal accordin' to their various laws. i don't feel like googlin' for a french or german or italian or "insert country name here" version of psystar.

    The Hackintosh: Delivered

^it's not only ebay. craigslist too. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&saf...amp;btnG=Search i've posted this before... http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...mp;#entry713508 lots of ppl are sellin' hackintoshes on craigslist. i wonder if any of them are IM members? i heard that psystar is just the FIRST U.S. website/company to sell hackintoshes. i've heard that other countries have websites/companies that sell hackintoshes, legal or illegal accordin' to their various laws. i don't feel like googlin' for a french or german or italian or "insert country name here" version of psystar. i agree with terrancew_hod, build one yourself. i would pick out parts for you but i only use premium parts and it would cost you over $1000. you can find your own "parts that are better than psystar's parts" that meet your budget, but it would cost more than psystar's pc. but psystar's uses the cheapest parts available and not the best parts so that will lead to a short shelf life (my parts are carefully selected 'cause i won't be upgradin' for at least 5 years after that, even longer than that if i get lucky).
