According to this report it's going to be Jonathan Ive. He has basically been responsible for all the great product designs by Apple in the past few years, including the iPhone. While Jobs won't leave for at least a few more years, he has never actually announced who will replace him for his reign over Apple. In reality, Ive is very similar to Steve Jobs personality wise, and it appears that they both work closely with each other. So post in this thread and tell us what you think!

    Farewell, CompUSA

    By Numberzz, in OSx86,

You read the title correctly, CompUSA will begin shutting down all of it's stores around the world. At the beginning of 2007, CompUSA began downsizing. Now that they have officially announced that they will be no more, they will try to sell all of their inventory. Close to the holidays. This means that you might be able to get a bargain, or 20, at CompUSA. The company itself was Apple's largest retailer until Apple started selling computers in Best Buy.

Links for the weekend - 12/9/07

    By Sabr, in OSx86,

First on my new list of links, we have yet another Apple court case. This time, it's Klausner Technologies suing Apple over Visual Voicemail. Credit goes to A Nonny Moose for bringing this up.
Have you started mission one yet? That's right, Mac Heist II has already begun! Currently, you can get your hands on a copy of Overflow (full license) and Santa's Gizmo for free!

iTunes Movie prices have now increased from $9.95 to $15. I, along with many others, think that they should be cheaper. What do you think? Rumour has it that Apple will release 10.5.2 at Macworld '08, coupled with new hardware. Apparently, "the update will leverage a new compiler and libraries for Intel processors that will bring significant performance boosts to Intel Macs." On the forum side of things, don't forget to stop by Taruga's own X-Labs sub-forum, which is dedicated to his nifty little AppleHDA patcher. Thanks for your hard work Taruga.

If you fancy being nice, feel free to post Steve Jobs a Christmas Card.
Lastly, I must show you my top weekly video. This one is absolutely incredible! Granted, it's nothing to do with Macs, but is amazing to watch.

    As always,
    Have a nice weekend.

iPhone: Now with 3rd Party MMS

    By Numberzz, in OSx86,

The iPhone has been missing this since the day it was announced: MMS. But now, with the use of a 3rd party app, you can share pictures with your friends! Just simply enter the title, person to send it too, and the photo itself (sorry, no videos yet ). But this does have one caveat: that you cannot get MMS messages that your friends sent you. But even with this annoyance, it is a great step forward. You have to manually install this one, not ready for Installer yet.

    Rumor Roundup

    By Numberzz, in OSx86,

Macworld is about a month away, and the rumors are just flowing in! Just today, CNBC claimed that they had inside sources that said that the Apple Tablet does in fact, exist. Hardmac claims to know that Mac OS X 10.5.2 will be released at Macworld '08, bringing along "the largest and most important intermediate system update ever released by Apple." The report also states that the update will bring a new compiler and libraries for Intel processors that will bring significant performance boosts to Intel Macs. Amazing. This comes along with another report saying that the Mac Tablet will be released and WILL run a modified version of OS X.

On the 3G iPhone, it appears that it will be shipping between May and June. That's all.

With the release of 1.1.2 about a month behind us, it seems that Apple is preparing to update the devices as soon as this Saturday. The update is supposed to be pretty large, adding a few new (wanted) features. Such as voice recording and disk mode. But this would probably require a new jailbreak, so if you value your iPhone for the 3rd Party value and not for Apple's value, I would say wait to upgrade.

    Strong iPhone Sales in France

    By Numberzz, in OSx86,

France loves the iPhone more than the UK, but not as much as the US. During the first 5 days, it is reported that over 30 thousand devices have been sold. About 20% of the iPhones were unlocked with the $150 fee, and another 50% came from another competitor. In comparison, after two weeks, O2 has only sold 26.5 thousand. In the US, about 82 thousand were sold in the first weekend.

Reports are in that Apple, ahead of time, has bought new 13.3 inch LED backlight units. Nano Electro-Optical Technology have both recently become suppliers of notebook-use LED backlight units for Dell and Apple, with shipments to each supplier expected to soar in the future. The shipments to both Dell and Apple are for high-end models, confirming that the Apple's upcoming streamlined notebook will fall somewhere between the 13-inch MacBooks and its 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pro models.

    Apple Raises Movie Prices

    By Numberzz, in OSx86,

Yes, for the first time, Apple has caved in to studios. The content on Apple's iTunes Movie Store will now no longer be priced at $9.95, but at $15. Apple is probably doing this because most major studios have said they will not sign a contract with Apple because they do not have high enough pricing and they do not have enough DRM protection. It is even reported that some movie studios want a feature that would charge for every single time the movie was paused. So far, only Disney and Paramount have agreed to sell movies.

    Bye NBC

    By Numberzz, in OSx86,

Yes, NBC has been fully pulled from the iTunes Store. They are launching their own services, hulu and NBC Direct. Those are both extremely awesome. NBC Direct NEEDS Internet Explorer. Videos are available for 7 days after they are on the air, and disappear from your computer 48 hours after watching it. You also cannot transfer the downloaded video to other computers or portable devices. Did I also mention, that as of now, the service doesn't work with Windows Vista or any versions of Mac OS X?
