    kalyway Leopard 10.5.1 Released

    By REVENGE, in OSx86,

Whew, it seems like Christmas has arrived early for the Hackint0sh scene, first with the seeding of iATKOS by uphuck and now with the seeding of the kalyway team's 10.5.1 release.

Kalyway's build includes support for both SSE3 and SSE2 Intel CPUs, with an integrated PC-EFI installer capable of both MBR and GUID installations. In addition, a plethora of video, audio, and networking drivers are included in order to make this release as compatible as possible with Hackint0sh hardware. As a special bonus, there will be some extra 3rd party software bundled with the install, including the well known Pacifist package manager and Colloquy IRC client.

LIVE: Now staying with the pirates in a very special bay, kalyway's release is publicly available!

    The "Mac Guy" was Right

    By Numberzz, in OSx86,

A while back, when the "Mac Guy" and the "PC Guy" ads were just starting, Mac was talking about creativity on a Mac. He said that you can be much more creative on a Mac, so you will love media more. Well, it turns out that he was right. Almost half of all Mac users had paid for music through various digital methods, while only 16 percent of PC users did the same. 28 percent of PC users reported buying physical CDs to get their music, but Mac users beat them again at 32 percent. Mac users were more likely to actually use their iPods too; 34 percent of Mac users had put music onto their MP3 players, compared to only 16 percent of PC users.

    iATKOS v1.0i Released

    By REVENGE, in OSx86,

According to the osx86.turk team's official IRC channel on irc.atlantis-irc.net and uphuck.com, their release of Mac OS X 10.5.1 (Build 9B18), codename iATKOS, has been seeded to a "mini" torrent site as of 12-17-2007. iATKOS is considered by osx86/hackintosh community to be the holy grail of "white box PC" Leopard releases. Under development since the time of Leopard's finalization, the iATKOS project has undergone several tentative release announcements, followed by bug fixes, feature additions, and consequent delays and postponement. This finalized v1.0i release will incorporate the monumental PC-EFI boot loader system, a fully patched 10.5.1 installation, and additional community made content. These components may provide for the first time, a consummate white box Leopard experience, with full support for certain combinations of hardware, and the ability to use the vanilla kernel and official Apple updates on Intel Core 2 systems. PPC code has also been removed, so the entire file is smaller in size. The uphuck team itself has recently gained both respect and notoriety from their well developed and supported releases of Tiger, so there is a lot to be expected from their Leopard release.

Yes, against all odds, Apple's iPhone has beat the sales of Windows Mobile devices. This comes after a report that said that the Mobile version of Safari had over 2x the market share that Internet Explorer Mobile had. The new report states that from July to September, the iPhone accounted for a mere 27% of all sales. This puts them ahead of Windows Mobile, but behind BlackBerry. This means that one in four smartphones bought were an iPhone, which is fantastic for Apple. But the iPhone might get a little more market share soon, because it seems that it is one of the top devices on people's wishlists for the holidays.

    Quicktime Update....

    By Numberzz, in OSx86,

As it turns out, Apple's latest Quicktime update seems to be breaking some people's computers. The update, after it is installed and the computer restarts, brings you to the setup assistant. Weird, right? When finished with the setup assistant, you get another setup assistant to greet you. And another. And another. But there seems to be a simple enough fix: booting the computer in safe mode. Yes, just hit the shift key on your computer after you hear the chime, and hold it until the spinning cog appears. I'm glad I didn't update.

    ƒrench iPhone Unlocking

    By Numberzz, in OSx86,

So where will a 649 euro ($965) iPhone get you these days? Apparently no where out of France. That's right, Apple has screwed up again. The iPhones that were bought unlocked only appear to have been unlocked to French carriers. Any attempt to use a carrier outside of France will render the iPhone's phone features useless. But Apple has stepped up, and said that this IS a screw up, and that a new firmware update will be out shortly that will allow the unlocked iPhone to actually be unlocked. This could be what delayed the firmware update that was supposed to appear last weekend on out iPhones.

So from the staff here at InsanelyMac and Apple, happy holidays!

    Throttling....Hardware?

    By Numberzz, in OSx86,

A new Western Digital hard drive has a new DRM feature, if you could call it a feature. What this hard drive does is quite strange. The hard drive actually doesn't let you share many types of files. In fact, the list of the banned file types has over 30 extensions. What I don't understand is why the music, or movie industry is so uncomfortable with letting us rip CDs. I mean c'mon. THis is just getting stupid. Tell us what you think in this thread.

    Playstation for iPhone

    By Numberzz, in OSx86,

Yes, you read that title correctly. Someone has almost finished making a Playstation emulator for the iPhone. Now, the first thing you might say is: "THERE IS NO WAY THE IPHONE IS FAST ENOUGH LOL!!1" That is where you are wrong: the original Playstation actually has a 33MHz processor, which is slower than the one found on the iPhone. The iPhone also has more RAM. Beside from the controls, which the developer says will look different, it is looking pretty good.

Hopefully not what it will look like
