Site is Very slow again; what wrong here ?

Hi chris1111,

It was very slow few hours ago but I think it's fixed now. The site is loading much better now. Do you see any improvement on your part?

Hi guys,

It's been a while since I posted here. Trying to enable the "custom" InsanelyMac theme, the user gets redirected to a Page not Found error. Also, the members tab still goes into error. Am I the only one experiencing these issues?

For the theme, I switched back to default IPS theme...  Not a big fan of the light theme. Not at all. It's very tiring to my eyes.  But I guess there are no plans to implement a default dark theme any time soon, (I saw a post a while ago about maybe implementing the same theme that linustechtips forum uses, which is absolutely gorgeous in my opinion, but...I don't see it here so I suppose that idea got cancelled or something) so I'll use whatever it is available. Sadly, I haven't had time to work on the dark theme for Stylish.  Which was based on the InsanelyMac forum theme anyway... So..that's not gonna work anyway. And last time I worked on it I realised that what I had was only a part of the actual css and there were a lot more things that were stored in other files on the server. So...best option here would be to just have a default theme on the forum level.

I'm glad to see the Wiki linked on here though. :) That is really useful.

Guy's for me there's no more insanelymac Defaults theme, it switched automatically to defaults ips theme, I have no option to switch back :( !

It's been disabled for all users. I guess it will be back once the issues on the Insanelymac.com are resolved.

There is an experimental InsanelyMac theme you can try :), but there are many known issues left to be resolved. Please don't report issues with that theme just yet since we're still working on it. When it's complete everyone will be reset

....well, the default IPS theme is sooo badly constructed and sooo full of ads , it is unusable....pages don't load, only ads...when they do load ...it's half a page....maybe it pays the bills...but if I came upon this site(for the first time) in its' present form, I wouldn't bother....I've been around here since '05...what the f^*&%$ happened?

It's faster now! Thanks for :thumbsup_anim:

Loading time is faster also, just missing code and some things in the comments box, but it's to fast now!

We don't have any control over the ads on the site - they are here for the moment to see how well it performs and then we can make adjustments as needed :)

I can confirm that now, we are really back to the Insanelymac, for me everything is in the place, and it's so fast now!

Adds don't bother me, even if i don't like them, but isn't problem, i just forget theme to enjoy surfing here. Really

THANKS POCO AND THE WORKERS AND ALL INSANELYMAC STAFFS

I find this very hard to believe, why would you not have control over giant ads that appear in the middle of pages on YOUR site and cause the site to take forever to load? Even with an ad blocker the site noticeably lags as it attempts to load these and gets blocked... Sometimes it takes minutes to load one page, I often visit and leave immediately because the site is unusable because the lag is too high.

EDIT: And this has happened since your post as well...

This is not Poco's site... maybe we should collect and buy it for him though.

As @Download-Fritz says, I don't own the site, but would definitely tone them down if I did :)All advertising decisions are made by the owners (Fubra) to cover the server costs

I simply maintain the site in my spare time as a hobby project

Ok, so someone else owns the server and you rent from them or what? Either way, then what are donors donating their money towards, if not server resources? And if you are using someone else's server, why not just use a service that allocates your own resources...? I'm confused because I've never (and would never) allow a server to force ads upon my site, it's basically the touch of death, even with ad block you can see that the ads take a significant amount of resources locally trying to load them. Which I imagine eventually causes the slow downs that seem to happen often... And if not, that service is worthless anyway as the site is almost unusable very often. Also ever since the upgrade I have black boxes that checkerboard the site randomly as I scroll.

I have already stated I would be willing to pay to transfer it.

I still don't understand what possible deal would force ads, and if someone is willing to pay for that not to be the case I understand even less....

@apianti

The InsanelyMac.com is a property of Fubra they own the whole site.

But I'm with you on the ads and the donations we made to cover the costs, but it seems that the donations are not enough.
