Rosetta and Driver Upgrades; New Build is Leaked

We've received unconfirmed reports concerning a few interesting new toys under the hood of OSx86 10.4.3, including a vastly improved Rosetta and brand new ATI drivers - each far more complete than in previous builds.

First, the Rosetta emulation platform in 10.4.3 build 8F1111A has been upgraded to feature full G4 support, including Altivec. This not only adds a new layer of compatibility to Rosetta, but also improved speed for Altivec-equipped applications. This upgrade is reportedly available as a small downloadable update to build 8F1111.

Also, new ATI drivers available in 10.4.3 seem to offer much greater support for PC ATI graphics chipsets. Preliminary reports indicate that they may support most of the 9000 line, and parts of the X series, including mobile chipsets. Apparently NVIDIA systems have not been given this treatment. Is this discrepancy simply due to the pace of driver porting at Apple, or will ATI graphics hold a special place in the Mactel world?

On a side note, the weekend brought a newly leaked copy of OSx86 10.4.3 build 8F1111, the most recent seed from Apple. This seed, with its universal binary of iTunes, is a newer version than the build which was recently cracked.

Got an invite. Thanks, glufx. If it's not being seeded at another tracker by the time I'm done, I'll put it up somewhere.

Thx but don't worry about it. Bittorrent f's up my connection, so I can't get it from anywhere.

Does anyone know if the "A" update is avaliable from the software update in OSX if you have 8F1111? Those kind of updates usally are.

The torrent on PB links to Demonoid, so it's not fake. Somehow I'm downloading it even though I don't have a Demonoid account. Does anyone think they can hook me up with an invite, so I can connect to this torrent for real. Thanks.

Edit: No longer needed, thanks!

Sooo...this is 10.4.3 build 8F1111 and there is an update 8F1111A available seperatly. "This upgrade is reportedly available as a small downloadable update to build 8F1111. "

Is this included with the torrent on TPB or elsewhere?

klaupacius-

As far as I know, the update hasn't been leaked anywhere. If/when it is, we'll report on it. :)

Oh, and just so that everyone knows, these news threads should just stick to talking about the news - if you have questions about installing or finding leaks, etc, it should go in another one of the forums here. Thanks!

The developer drivers currently available may or may not be compatible with shipping Mactels which are expected to use EFI instead of BIOS. Nviidia may just be a little slower than ATI, or they could have decided that drivers for the developer machine wasn't worth their effort.

That being said it's very curious that ATI is supporting the 9000 series. No intel machine from Apple will have AGP and the intel drivers won't be compatible with the PPC Macs either. Could ATI be planning a OSx86 version of catalyst or is this the sign of something more? I'd be looking for things like specific AMD support or other items that shouldn't be there if Apple were truly planning to keep it to themselves.

Hi,

Assuming the file is what I think it is, and that it burns to DVD fine, will I be able to just run it and upgrade my Native 10.4.1 + 10.4.3 Userland build? Or will this wipe everything and require me to reinstall all apps etc?

Surely you can update your installation.

btw, u can install it on another HD, and import user/application after by migration tool (very simple and complete tool)

I think they want us, to test it. Also the tpm seems to be not very strong, and just an alibi.

I can hear Steves future words: "Sorry Bill, at least, we tried" :)

Why to take only 5% if you can have it all?

This all PAE/NX odyssey makes me think about how will final (which is not far away for shure) build is going to be protected. TPM protection has proven to be pretty useless, so they are tying OS X to hardware by using processor features.

The more specific they are, the narrower the userbase of a leaked release is: 10.4.1 should have left behid everyone without an SSE3 capable processor, but as we all know they -fortunately- only left behind SSE-only users.

On the current update, what are even more specific features available for DTKs and not most end users? NX for example. They could have used HT or even MCR also, but chose NX and PAE.

I'm betting final releases will be made to run only on Yonah processors, beign mandatory to have Vanderpool (virtual machine extensions) to run the system. Also note the rumours regarding Leopard using virtualizing technology and it all makes sense.

The point is probably not to hardlock OSx86, but to narrow the "ilegal" userbase to the minimum. What do you think?
