Kronoid
I have spent the last 6-7 hours trying to figure out how to burn an ISO DVD for Kalway 10.5.1 without any success. I have searched this forum and the web and didn't find an answer. I found lots of people who asked the same question here but the threads didn't have any solutions. I got the file from the source indicated in the guide and it is called kalyway_leo_10.5.1.iso but it doesn't seem to be an ISO image at all. It is a Rar file and after I downloaded it I used Winrar and all I could get were these: CHAIN0 CDBOOT BOOT1U BOOT1H BOOTO BOOT.CAT BOOT BOOTHELP:TXT Then sombody told me to get Transmac so I could see all the files. I got Transmac and I can now see a folder named HFS+Volume and then inside this there are 5 folders (.fseventsd , .Trashes, .vol, Install Mac OS X.app, System) plus a vanilla file. Some folder have more folders in them. I thought this was supposed to be an Image or ISO file? Did I get the wrong thing or am I missing something? Thanks a lot. Johnny V
Did you try to open the iso image or did you try to burn the iso file. Wish I could help you more as I'm a Mac user. On the Mac a I used Toast to burn kalyway_leo_10.5.1.iso as Copy not Data. Here's a google search if it helps: http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/90795-guide-installer-leopard-gigabyte-ga-p35-ds3pds3rds4-1052-efi/page/31/#findComment-760617 Share on other sites
Kronoid
I'm using Windows XP. I can't see an ISO file at all. Just the folders I mentioned above. Nero won't take folders, so unless I have to dump all the contents of the individual folders in Nero, I can't burn a DVD at all. I just verified the MD5 using MD5check and it is f8546bde2a5b3c7dff47f2aab31862a9 so I guess the file must be right. No idea why it doesn't have an ISO image though. If it is made to install OSX on PCs it would be pretty weird if you can only see it on a Mac. ~pcwiz
You don't unRAR it. Just burn the ISO. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/90795-guide-installer-leopard-gigabyte-ga-p35-ds3pds3rds4-1052-efi/page/31/#findComment-760650 Share on other sites
Kronoid
You mean burn the rar file to the disc then? I did that but then when I put the disc back in the drive it behaves like a data CD with the rar file in it rather than a boot disc or any sort. Unless it only works the boot when booting from the BIOS? ~pcwiz
kalyway_leo_10.5.1.iso is supposed to be an ISO file, not a RAR. Maybe your RAR program is just opening the ISO...sounds weird. Burn the so called "RAR" as an IMAGE file (not a data file) to a DVD. Burn the so called "RAR" as an IMAGE file (not a data file) to a DVD. Yeah, although it looks like a Rar file it has an .iso extension. Not sure why it is showing with the rar icon. I did burn it as an ISO DVD in Nero rather than a Data one. But when I try to open the DVD I see the whole "rar" file just as it was in my HDD. The size is still 4.37GB but it seems to be the data file rather than anything else. It doesn’t try to boot or anything when I pop it in. Then I downloaded IMGBURN and burnt the whole "rar" file to disc. After burnt I can only see the same files in there: CHAIN0 CDBOOT BOOT1U BOOT1H BOOTO BOOT.CAT BOOT BOOTHELP:TXT On my My Computer browser it shows as OSX86dvd but when I go to properties it is only 192KB big. Does this sound right? Doesn't seem like. Kronoid
Then I left the disc in the drive and restart the computer and booted from the CD. The Apple logo came on the screen. I thought, great, maybe it is working after all. But 4 hours went by and nothing else happened. It was the Apple logo with another small symbol over it like the no smoking symbol, just empty in the middle. Like an anti-Apple symbol. But that was it. Nothing happened. Thanks for all the help to get this working. I really appreciated it. gendem
FWIW everything is working aces for me. eSata hot swapping, firewire, everything. 6/8 USB ports are not high speed, however...not too sure why that is. ...Mike Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/90795-guide-installer-leopard-gigabyte-ga-p35-ds3pds3rds4-1052-efi/page/31/#findComment-761653 Share on other sites
Johnny V
....6/8 USB ports are not high speed, however...not too sure why that is. Same here....but that's my only issue. I haven't tracked down a solution yet. Couldn't be happier though. greythorne
After many months of trying and seeing failure at every attempts i finally gave up. Now i am back and going to follow this guide. Basically i am going to buy a very similar parts as most of you have here. OK now my question is will i be able to install using "Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD Intel_Amd (sse2/sse3) EFI V8"? If i do then am i rite to say that i can still follow this guide but can skip those combo update since this one is already updated to 10.5.2. Need your input here before i venture into the unknown. Btw this will be my new system, need comments on it: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS* (I suppose so long it is a P35 chipset then it doesn't matter which board i get?) GIGABYTE GV-NX88T512H-B (GeForce 8800GT) 512MB GDDR3 INTEL Core2 Duo E8400 (3.0GHz) The rest like hard drive will be using from my old system. Something i would like to ask, is it possible lets say if i buy a retail DVD of Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.2 and use that to install, would i be able to update using Apple software update without any issue? I am asking this so that i could avoid downloading the above DVD and setup up my desired system soon. Right now downloading the torrent will take days!! This is a great forum. Any help is greatly appreciated Thanks and regards. I am asking this so that i could avoid downloading the above DVD and setup up my desired system soon. Right now downloading the torrent will take days!! Two things you should know 1) Leopard does not require a cd key to install, apple could not know if you have a legit operating system running or not to block updates like Microsoft does. 2) Follow the guide exactly as it's written by pcwiz and you could download almost all of the updates without any issues straight from apple. (except major updates for example from 10.5.2 to 10.5.3, The other update you want to avoid is the Time machine airport update.) kinkster
Greythorne you might also want to wait to take a look at the 10.5.3 combo update. Its already out, but there site is down with traffick so there isn't much news about it yet. i*C
Stay away from 10.5.3 combo update... its not as smooth as 10.5.2. I have tried installing it but it actually screwed my install so i had to restore with time machine. It masses with your graphics. It did in my case. Plus if your speks are like mine you will not be able to log in what so ever. Singel user, verbose mode etc... wait untill its official. ~pcwiz
I've heard that using NVkush instead of NVinject sometimes solves the graphics problem with 10.5.3, but I guess there are other issues also. I'm gonna wait till 10.5.3 is more mature before updating the guide or even updating my system, because it seems to be kinda buggy ATM. FromMac2Hack
Hi everyone, many apologies up front (first time user here), but I'll be using this guide for my Hackintosh build. I was looking at Newegg and it looks like the Gigabyte P35-DS* boards are being replaced by an EP35-DS* board. Any ideas if this will affect compatibility with Hackintosh builds? Should be no problem... just a more energy efficient board. Just like my "E"X38. ~pcwiz
True. The EP35 and the P35 are almost exactly the same, except EP35 has some goodies like CrossFire X support, faster RAM support, etc. P.S. Johnny V you might wanna change your avatar, some people may find it offensive. ~pcwiz
I may, soon, but at the moment it seems that quite a few people are having regrets about updating and there are many problems like losing video, etc. so I want to wait until 10.5.3 matures a bit before I update the guide, because I don't want to screw people over by going on the bleeding edge of 10.5.3 Thanks for changing the avatar Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/90795-guide-installer-leopard-gigabyte-ga-p35-ds3pds3rds4-1052-efi/page/31/#findComment-765944 Share on other sites
