Hi All,

For those who whave the EP35-DS3R board.. can you look in the Apple System Profiler to see how many "USB High-Speed Bus"(480mb) and "USB Bus"(12mb) you see? I would've thought all ports were High Speed? Of 8 USB busses, only 2 are High Speed!

I'm curious, because I think one of my USB drives blew out a couple of USB ports on my old board.. Trying to see if that might be the case here.

Thanks for your help!

Aaron

Sorry, thought I reported back on this but forgot. Mine shows the exact same:

6 "USB Bus"

2 "USB High-Speed Bus"

Hello ~pcwiz!

I have a Gigabyte DS3 Socket 965 Motherboard and Leopard 10.5.2. Have you got a Guide+Installer for this MB, too?

Haven't seen that this guide is only for the newer P35 version Motherboards. I have shot up my OS two times before :(

Intel Core2Duo E6400, 2.13 Ghz

Gigabyte DS3 965, Revision 3.3

4gigs of RAM

ASUS 8600GT 256MB

Thank you very much for your reply!

I'm afraid it won't work too well on the 965P-DS3. You can still try though. Use the same guide, but when you get to the installer, uncheck the audio and ethernet (LAN) drivers because they won't work with your board. You will have to find alternative audio and Ethernet drivers but the rest should be mostly OK.

Hi!

Yes, i thought that, too. But now, I have a problem: After I installed your package, the OSX doesn't start anymore!

This wasn't a real problem because I could reinstall the hole system in about 20 minutes. One question is still unanswered.

I have a Wireless Lan card which is called Linksys WMP54G. I don't know which driver i should take, because one is for my chip, but for 10.3 & 10.4, the other one is for another chip, but Leopard certified. Both don't work!

Now, I have read some driver details in Windows XP: It's a Linksys WMP54G with Broadcom chip which should be recognized from Leo without any other drivers! What is false here?

Sry for my bad English and thank you very much for your reply!

hey guys,

I've had a squiz around but cant find anything, do you think this tutorial would work for a gigabyte GA-P31-D3SL Mobo with a Core Duo 2.0 ghz (E2180 if memory serves me correctly), 2 gig of ram, Nvidia 9600GT, sata hard drive and IDE dvd?

Cheers!

Except for your graphics card, which isn't supported in Leopard, it should work with some adjustments reflecting your hardware.

You need to adjust the solution for your audio (ALC889 on the P35-DS3/4, ALC888 on the P31-DS3L).

The SATA should work out of the box, as well as the IDE.

Has anyone had issues when waking from sleep? I put my computer to sleep last night, which I usually don't do. When I woke it up this morning it wouldn't respond after the desktop popped back up.

ej25power,

Sleep has been discussed in this thread thoroughly. Have you read thru this thread? Also, are you using this install method? There are several reasons for not waking up from sleep - usually BIOS setting (S1 vs S3) and not using the Sleep kernel. Which kernel & sleep mode are you using?

Roarsaur,

There are a couple of "fixes" for SATA drives showing up as external. pcwiz linked to a thread just recently I believe. I didn't attempt the fix because I'm no longer using the Kalyway install. Sounds like you can either modify a kext (relating to ACPI I believe) or just change the icons manually. I did a retail installation on another drive (same system) and they show up as internal on that build. I'm not exactly sure which kexts fixed it :D

I'm not exactly sure if the USB high speed is actually a "problem". I'm thinking it is just the design of the board? But perhaps someone running Windows could look to see how many "USB High speed controllers" show up in Device Manager for this board? Sorry, I guess I'm not too helpful here

Fruitboi

Fruitboi-

I've read the thread..but that was a while ago and when I searched for "sleep" it was too common of a term for anything to pop up.

I have my BIOS set to S1 (I think...or whatever the installer manual specifies) and the sleep kernel installed. I also used this install method.

This just happened after letting it sleep overnight (wakes up, but not functional). I can sleep and wake it up after a few seconds with everything seemingly working.

Hi there i'm trying to follow this guide but with Kalyway 10.5.2 ISO.

1 big problem: I don't have the screen where you choose the options (drivers and optional kernel) before the OSX install start. I see the agreement, but can't get this screen to show!

Is that related to 10.5.2. Should i try with 10.5.1 instead ?

cyberdef,That's because the Kalyway release is completely different and the install options are not the same. The Kalyway installer is completely replaced from the stock Apple installer. I tried the 10.5.2 dvd as well, but clearly I could not follow this guide, and I was not successful (I think due to a bad download or burn, however). This guide has been proven over and over to be successfuly - pcwiz did a great job!My 0.02: Just follow this guide to a "T" and you'll have a great set of people in this thread to help in case of any trouble :)It's really simple to just use this guide EXACTLY as pcwiz instructs. It doesn't take much time to upgrade from 10.5.1 to 10.5.2 :D I know it's tempting to use the 10.5.2 guide, but then you are on your own. It should work, but you can't really expect the people in this thread to help because you didn't do as instructed, no?Fruitboiej25power-Double check you are in S1 sleep in BIOS. pcwiz guide says S1, but some have had success with S3. I don't us sleep, so I can't tell you. If you are running the "sleep" kernel from this guide, did you install the Time Machine and Airport upade? That will update your kernel to 9.2.2 Vanilla from Apple and break sleep.I've heard of others with the long term sleep problem as well. I would try removing any peripherals to see if that helps. Clearly we don't have the Apple sanctified drivers that ensure sleep. That's probably the reason why sleep works so much better on a Mac than on any other platform IMHO.Disclaimer: PCwiz is the real wiz around here, I'm just kinda going by what I remember and my little experience with OSx86. I don't have time to run around searching the forum for answers for others.Fruitboi

cyberderf,

Look for a "Customize" button in the installer dialogs, somewhere right before you click the Install button. But Fruitboi is indeed correct, it would be much easier off using the 10.5.1 DVD for this guide, and you will have much less problems.

I haven't installed the Time Machine/Airport update and I only have what ~pcwiz's installer includes. I'm pretty sure I only have my keyboard/mouse and printer hooked up. I'll unplug the printer and try S3 to see if that helps.

PS-Sleep didn't work on my real Mac either

> Yes, with my guide at least, 10.5.1 + 10.5.2 update is the best method, if you want to avoid trouble.

Great.

I'm waiting for all my computer components to arrive.

You see any problem with a Gigabyte GA-EX38-DS4 board and your guide?

Thanks,

John
