Has anyone successfully gotten both VGA and DVI out on their Dell D630 while docked for dual external monitor support? Is this even possible since no laptop mac has the option for dual external monitors?

I have not been able to get it to work. Doubt it will ever unless someone can devote some time to getting it to work. But it's still doubtful that it will work at all since no Intel Mac has a docking station like Dell's. I might be wrong. I don't know if anyone has gotten an IBM to work.

I have a dell d830 with intel x3100 graphics

I installed with iatkos 5i and updated to 10.5.6

I can boot if I delete the AppleIntel* kext and have a 1600x1200 resolution without acceleration

but I need 1920x1200 so I tried all the kext combination found here to the slashhack package

nothing work

always black screen after the blue initialisation

with the 10.5.6 drivers I have a black screen from internal LCD but the vga out is working correctly

I'm not sure sleepdisplay work because if I launch it manually it doesn't put my display to sleep

I need some help, anyone has a solution for me ?

Has anyone successfully gotten both VGA and DVI out on their Dell D630 while docked for dual external monitor support? Is this even possible since no laptop mac has the option for dual external monitors?

I posted pages and pages ago asking for help getting DVI to work while docked. I can't even get that to work so I haven't even tried to go for dual external monitors. I tried all sorts of values for that magic value for the nVidia drivers and nothing worked better than the default value supplied by nvKush. That at least allows for VGA out while docked.

Trouble is I use DVI while docked when in Windows but luckily my monitor has both a VGA and DVI input so I just attach both. Then when I'm in OS X I use the VGA connection and when in Windows use the DVI connection. Just wish I could get Windows to default to the DVI connection so that I didn't have to manually change from VGA to DVI each time I start in Windows.

i've tried both iatkos 5i, iDeneb 10.5.6 and iPC 10.5.6... nothing boot on my D630(A15).

tried all switch more time, tried with and without batteries, with single or both core enabled, with and without speedstep.. not boot!

i wan't a new detailed guide from ErrandWolfe!!!!!

bye

There is no need for a new guide, just patience. iPC 10.5.6 will boot, it may take you 100+ tries but it WILL eventually boot. If however there is that big of a demand I can start work on a fresh install guide.

Just wondering if anyone has tried the scrolling working on the D830 as described below. I'm excited about this thread, and looking into getting a used D830, but scrolling on the touchpad is essential to me.

I got used to the 2-finger scroll on a Macbook Pro... and I'm afraid I may actually prefer a Windows machine with a good track pad + scroll feature over a Hackingtosh with a crippled track pad.

@lithium06:

Well, you can definitively add the "clicking by taping" and scrolling feature (with one finger not two) on your d630.

-Use ranova method here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=88811

- For tweaking, enter following values in your com.apple.driver.ApplePS2Trackpad.plist in the section "SynapticsPreferences":

  • speedScale=300 to avoid setting "tracking speed" to max in the mouse prefPane.
  • zAcceptThreshold=115 to avoid cursor movement freezing and to allow a correct pointing
  • zArraySize=16 to allow double detection (pressure defined by zAcceptThreshold + finger surface with finger more parallel to trackpad to scroll and more perpendicular to trackpad for pointing)
  • zDeclinesToStop and zDeclineThreshold give the pressure to switch from scrolling action to pointing back action. You can increase to 50 if you want to release sooner but in that case you need strong fingers. To scroll precisely set those values to 8.

Joined my plist. Okay for my d630. Don't forget to copy this plist in the user and system prefs folders.

DON'T ACT DIRECLY IN THE PREF PANE FOR FFScroll: it will corrupt your com.apple.driver.ApplePS2Trackpad.plist file :)

------------------------------------------------------

@Roneil04:

If you want you can add trackpad setup in your setup guide with the attached plist.

Use "Pref Setter" to modify the plist in a GUI

:)

TheSlug, you are funny! I want a new guide!!! That is funny!!

yez yez!! is VERY funny... as the behavior of our D630!! :);):D :D

the IT world has rules... not dell D630!!! is a joke :P

when i have more time, i will try Apple retail 10.5.6 install and the XXX disk.

tnx for the reply errand :thumbsdown_anim:... but... a little.. river.. on the green... with a little ghost of the partition... is possible :P:D:D

byeeeeeeeeeee ;)

to everyone talking about vga/dvi/docking, i'm not too good with the lingo, but do all these basically mean connecting an external monitor to your laptop? because I was wondering if anyone got a mirror display working, where what you see on your laptop is what you see on your monitor. on another thread i got an nvkush that got the dual monitor display working, but they said mirror was not supported yet. i think this was a while ago though.

@fireburner

so that worked for getting iatkos5 to boot to the install - (mine ALWAYS fails at ACPI)

but, what do I do to customize

D630

bios a09

gm965 graphics

1gb ram

the worst part is that a week ago I had a running 10.5.2 (using leo4all), tried to update to 10.5.4 (which I had no need to do) and fouled it all up. Now I can't ever get past the ACPI error, no matter if I do:

leo4all

kalyway

ideneb

iatkos

(and I've tried nearly every version of the preceding releases)

HELP ME PLEASE!

one more thing, I have a wonderful little 'perfect mac for $250' it worked right away, so it's not like I can't follow instructions

QUICK ADDENDUM

I can get leo4allv2 (10.5.2) to install, but now when I get to the 'installed' version it:

1) Gives the welcome

accept default

2) asks for language

accept default - US English

3) asks if I want to transfer from an old mac

select 'no transfer'

and then it goes back to step #1 forever

EDIT AGAIN

I got rid of the infinite loop (yes, google is your friend!)

Now I've got it up and going, upgraded to 10.5.4 (using instruction in first post)

I have gmax3100 1440x900 (can't get any better than that, I thought 1600x1200 was possible?)

Next step is to install 10.5.5 so I can get the latest safari (and I'm not sure that I really want it that bad as I'm really only interested in the xcode/SDK for mac and iphone development)

In conclusion, the poster who said just keep trying, the boot will work correctly was right. It's now working like a charm, sleep/shutdown/internet (BROADCOM 57xx!)

Thanks to all, this is really quite cool!

Hi All,

Right now my D630 BIOS A15.

I'm try with iATKOS 5i (10.5.5) it black screen display mouse pointer only.

On Kalyway 10.5.1 -> .2 -> .3 -> .4 that OK have few problems I'm can't change resolution or send to LCD.

I'm try update try update my Kalyway to .5 it same problem black screen display mouse pointer only.

I think have problem on 10.5.5, any one have solution for this case.

Thank you.

to everyone talking about vga/dvi/docking, i'm not too good with the lingo, but do all these basically mean connecting an external monitor to your laptop?

For those who don't know, one of the features of the Dell Latitude series are d/Docks. Dell makes 2 difference models, 1 is basically a port replicator but it adds an additional video port (DVI) allowing the docked laptop to display on 2 different external displays, 1 VGA and 1 DVI. They also make a fancier d/Dock which has its own power supply and can accept a half length PCI card for those situations (mostly for businesses, since the Latitude is Dell's business line) where some special purpose card is necessary to run a particular program. This dock also has the 2 video ports, 1 VGA and 1 DVI.

So with either you can have a monitor connected to either the VGA port or the DVI port or 2 monitors, 1 to each port.

My I just dock my laptop, so that when I pick it up to leave the keyboard and speakers and other goodies are plugged into the USB and speaker ports on the dock so the laptop is uncluttered. I also use a 22" monitor when I'm docked instead of the laptop display. But in OS X my hackintosh will only connect to the VGA port, not the DVI port. But in Windows XP and Vista I can connect to the DVI port and then even add a 2nd monitor to the VGA port if I wish.

All I want to myself for OS X is to connect the monitor to the DVI port.

ah, thanks for the dell lesson B). anyway, it looks like you have mirror display working though...is this right? my system info says mirror display is off, and when i connect another monitor into my vga (the blue colored one), it just automatically makes a dual monitor with my laptop screen and the monitor. how would I get the monitor to display what's on the laptop screen? is there another kext for this, or is it a setting somewhere?

I am a complete noob to this, but I have a D630 and I have tried four distros so far today without success. The closest I come is completing the installation, rebooting and ending at a black screen. My D630 has the Intel GMA965 display chipset, the closest I see is 950 although I believe Leo 10.5.6 has the 965 driver.

Here is what happens with each distro:

Leo 10.5.6 get to the part where I customize the install, choose my drivers, let it check the install DVD or skip, and it errors out saying it cannot install OS X on my system, every time. This is the only distro that has the Intel 965 display drivers I believe.

Kalyway 10.5.2 get it installed, reboot, black screen.

iAtkos 5i gets installed, but will not boot into gui, no network adapaters found.

iDeneb 1.3 10.5.5 installed, reboot, black screen.

I have the appropriate things disabled in the BIOS, my BIOS version I believe is A07.

My system has a 160G drive and 8G of RAM, 2GHz Core 2 Duo.

How can I get one of these distros installed?

Thanks

Ashman, your problem is that you are not following this guide, read it ALL!, then try again, the install is fairly simple. Its noob proof!if you still have a problem aftarwards PM me and I will try to help.

Thanks, I can actually get Kaliway, Aitkos or Leo 10.5.6 installed, my problem now is that none of them contain drivers for my intel wifi or Broadcom ethernet card. How can I get these drivers installed after the OS is installed?

i have installed the D630 yesterday with XXX 10.5.6 dvd... the xxx is based on 10.5.6 retail OS.

but... for me not work the x3100 pack from slashack, in other word... work, but sleep treak is necessany another time.

@errand

you want post a list of your current kext?

bye bye

Same problem with battery time with iPC 10.5.6, I have maybe missed a needed package.

It appears that shutdown/reboot problem is unsolvable, I remember that someone on this topic said it was due to the graphic driver (only with nvidia).

I have another problem by my side, I can't boot if i don't insert the DVD, I tried to check the startup configuration, but my hard drive doesn't appear. Have you got a solution for this problem?

Thank you.
