microsoft whiz
Las Vegas - Panasonic AVC Networks Co. took the wraps off a new line of TVs less than 1-inch thick as well as a mammoth 150-inch TV the size of a rhino.Speaking at the Consumer Electronics Show in front of a crowd of thousands in Las Vegas Monday, Panasonic president Toshihiro Sakamoto revealed Panasonic's plans for the future of consumer electronics. The new line of Viera TVs is expected to hit the market sometime next year. He did not announce a release date or pricing for the 150-inch TV (which measure 11-foot by 7-foot) that Mr. Sakamoto dubbed, "the world's largest flat screen TV." The big TV is the size of nine 50-inch TVs grouped together. "Can you imagine watching the Olympics on this baby?" Mr. Sakamoto asked. While Mr. Sakamoto didn't rule out home use of the giant, he said the new television would be primarily marketed to a commercial audience. The global electronics giant, which makes everything from digital cameras and TVs to medical devices, is working to make it easier to connect most of a home's gadgets and devices together. The company has been working with hundreds of families in order to study how they use their home entertainment systems. Mr. Sakamoto announced that new lines of Panasonic TVs will come with built in SD memory card slots, typically found in digital cameras, so that all photos a person takes with their camera can be easily shown on a TV. He also announced that Panasonic will be releasing a new high-definition camcorder that saves information to an SD card, so that HD videos can also be watched on a new Panasonic TV. Mr. Sakamoto also used his time to announce that Panasonic would be supporting the new Wireless HD standard that was announced last week Source: http://www.canada.com/topics/technology/ne...40af&k=3974://http://www.canada.com/topics/techno...inked-image" />://http://www.canada.com/topics/techno...inked-image" />
InorganicMatter
Eh, that's stupidly huge and expensive. Just get a front or rear DLP, you could buy 100 extra bulbs and it'd still be cheaper than that plasma.

Technobob
Just what we need another power hungry plasma. What they need to work on is getting the power consumption down on plasma TV's. If a 50" model consumes between 400 to 500 watts this thing must be in the 1500 to 2000 watt range or more.
JSn1™
I saw a 103" at $99,800. I wonder the price of this plasma... Blu Ray or HD DVD is not enough... hahaha, start getting content at 4320p.
Colonel
You better put that thing in the basement, if you buy one. Put it on any other level of the house, and it'll crash right through the floor.
Purple Puppy
Just what we need another power hungry plasma. What they need to work on is getting the power consumption down on plasma TV's. If a 50" model consumes between 400 to 500 watts this thing must be in the 1500 to 2000 watt range or more. Well considering that a 150" TV has 9 times the area of a 50" one, it would probably consume power in the... 4500 watt range.

sarahbau
I guess it could be OK for commercial use, but at that size, even 1080p would look crappy unless you are far away. To put things in perspective, the pixels would be the same size as standard definition content on a 54.5" TV (1.73x1.73mm)
Maxintosh
Just get a front or rear DLP Yep that would be MUCH better. Can you image what it would cost to fix that thing once it had image burn? How about shipping it to your house... installation... calibration... truly a piece of gear for someone with a bigger ego than brains
cmdshft
I personally think that if you can barely reach the top of a large television that you own, you shouldn't: -Breed -Stand anywhere near it Just some basics...
redratfish
you can buy a projector for far less and get really amazing picture. better than that thing. and even safer . imagine accidentally dashing your wii remote in that thing . waste of money i tell you i dont want one my projector will kill that any time
spoonie
it solves your viewing, heating, and clothes-drying expenses, all in one tiny little package. Ok, maybe not tiny.
numberonekiwi
I am thinking if purple puppy is correct 4500 then this little beast may need more than a standard 230v outlet maybe 3 phase 400v which would make the installation costs even higher
Maxintosh
That's not an issue because these aren't aimed for the consumer market, they are generally for use as billboards.
nate256
i would need a new house to put that new TV in! and my power bill would be HUGE
