i love that page.. especially the part that says "why upgrade to vista when you can upgrade past it" and "skip the hassles and choose the ultimate pc upgrade"

great, just like the jealous childish brother that apple is making themselves seem like, its just like the bully, he bullys because hes insecure and possibly inadiquite in certain areas....... its silly, apples making themselves look bad. i dont see m$ trashtalking apple.... apple, for ex at wdc, they had as many instances of "vista, redmound, and w/e else m$ related" as they did leopard, osx, or anything apple, its silly!

i really dont see the point of all this advertising, most normal pc users only know of ipods, they probably havent heard of apple's operating systems, those who do know about it probably is really old and still has the classic mac os stuck in their mind. more advanced pc users will just use a hacked version of os x, and mac users wont switched anyway

Clearly, you don't know what you're talking about. Most people have a vivid image of Apple in their mind, and even if traditionally, Macs haven't sold in high quantities (more than 20 million), they have always had an enormous presence in stores because of the Apple brand, even with just a few machines to the side of the PCs.

Also clearly, Macs are selling like hotcakes, particularly Macbooks. Just check some of the threads in this forum for the stats: Apple's never sold so many Macs! Are you telling me people just magically decided to buy Apple computers? Of course not! They were led to one through advertising. It's basic business.

I see Microsoft trash talking Apple all the time.

Steve Ballmer all but said the iPhone wasn't going to do anything.

Months ago MS was crowing about what the Zune was going to do.

Apple takes jabs at Microsoft. I think it's good honestly. It's akin to David taunting Goliath. However

if Apple continues to find success those taunts may carry a bit too much weight. So I can see it from both sides.

Good post. Apple stands up, puts stuff out there, and now they are bullies? Bull***t.

I don't mind an intensive advertising plan (like Geico)... but I think Apple's starting to cross the line; I think Apple should be setting more of an example, not "rough housing" with the good old boys. Microsoft might "suck," but berating them even indirectly seems rather childish and a sharp contrast to Apple's more traditional advertising style.

I have much more respect for a company who doesn't directly compare it's product with another. It's not just Apple, it's any.

So Apple should behave and be cool?

when the market is FULL of people who KNOWS about Windows and dont know they got a chance to switch? When every windows user is full the virus and internet {censored} ?

no, its not the time to be cool and passive, its time to vocal and stand up, to fight, t present battle.

Im abosultely in favor of Apple marketing strategies.

BTW jgrimes80 your sig is like that advertising......"Once you go Mac, you don't go back!!! "

I'm not saying the current ploy won't work or isn't already successful, simply I'd perfer to see a more conservative style. I don't get my business by bashing competitors. Period.

Apple's a good sized company, but if it pisses off the right combination of companies, it could burn hard. When you bash Vista, you're campaigning against more than just Microsoft. I don't care about an intensive advertising endevour, it's when you're directly challenging another product... Flex your muscle when someone's else screws with you, don't taunt because you don't know what it's in their arsenal or who's taking who's side. It's seldomly about who's right, it's typically about who's got bigger guns; who's willing to lose more; who's can afford to lose more....

Just a senario:

Microsoft tells Intel to stop selling chips to Apple.

Intel hesitates... meanwhile

MS initiates talks of a proprietary alliance with AMD

Now Intel will have to yeild or downside... they know retailers (Dell) will have to migrate to AMD

don't think something like this could hurt Apple? don't think it's realistic? You can only shove someone so many times until they push back. And most people aren't even until they're ahead.

(ideally - people would get pissed off and MS would crash to a 5% market share and Apple's Intel OSX ballons to 80%)

BTW, I didn't write my "sig" nor do I know how to change it...

Honestly, if I do get a Mac, one of the first things I'm going to do is install Vista via Bootcamp. Running Aero in one of those powerful new dual-clovertown 8-core Mac Pros would honestly be sick.

It's not that I don't like OS X. I really do love it, but I currently use Vista as often as I use OS X Tiger. After Leopard rolls out, there's a good chance that might change. If you really think about it though, if Microsoft put so much work into Vista only for me to conclude that it's now on par with Apple's soon-to-be-outdated operating system, I'm actually complimenting Apple.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here, but I'm going to assume it's some misconception that Windows PC's automatically have virusses.

You know, this has been beaten to dead. You need common sense not to open and download every email-attachment, from people you don't even know. Or from some Chinese dude who's trying to hook you up on viagra.

If you use an anti-virus package and a firewall, combined with half a gram of brains and common sense, you're set.

I simply cannot understand what some Mac users seem to find so inherently incomprehensible about this :)

I wonder what would happen if Mac OS was the most widely used OS, and you would have the entire lot of script kiddies on your necks.

And for the record, I haven't ever seen a Mac advertisement, and I'm still going to buy a Macbook. People know Apple, they know they can throw Windows or Linux on Macs. There's no need for childish na-na-na behaviour from Apple. It breaks down the suave they normally show...
