poursoul
Everyone, if you have installed this patch please post your results with XBench from before and after the patch, then also post you system specs if they are not in your signature. I am very interested to see if these "improvements" are only valuable to SSE3 procs or not.

39thRonin
Got, installed it, rebooted. I do get a ~30% higher XBench score. For some reason in Safari, Macromedia Flash doesn't quite work. If I right click I see the Flash menu, but it never draws anything (like the portion of the web page is garbage "left over". I used to have QuickTime set to handle SWF media, b/c someone that was a way of getting some flash files to work. I undid this, though, and Macromedia is definitely running, just not all that happy. /blkblt blkbit; I'm seeing the same stuff here - about a 30% higher Xbench and firefox blowing chunks on anything Flash. The install was on in no time, with no major issues. Good work!

poursoul
MANY MANY THANKS to the people who have brought this out. You will be in my thoughts and thanks for many months to come. Thank you so much. EVERYONE here will appreciate this, you guys are the best! *who else wants head* HAHA! anyway Yes people, your sys will still say 10.4.1, because this is just a patch made by a group, has nothing to do with anithing that would effect that even though it is the same updates. As stated elswhere in this forum it is simple enough to change what it says there, maybe someone could include an update that would change it for us. Not really important. jasch
After the update (on a 100% compliant, 915 system with SSE3), system still shows OS as 10.4.1, also Safari crashes a lot. Running native, flash movies are not displayed at all (yet I can hear them). Running using Rosetta, it either crashes, or displays hangs the machine (with the blank windows telling you to reset or power down the machine). I didn't notice any of the fixes on Safari that were introduced with 10.4.2 for PPC. On the other hand, Quicktime shows as 7.04. Apple DVD player (4.6.2) loads, but could not get it to play anything... It either said "Supported Disc not Available" or just froze.

urig-herb
@poursoul: You most likely haven't installed it at all. Because the new files don't get loaded. DrJägermeister
We've received reports that the rather creative OSx86 hacking community has created another release, this time to update existing 10.4.1 installations to many of the new features introduced in 10.4.3. Sources indicate that the new security features implemented in 10.4.3 have prevented a full release and that this update is in lieu of that release. Check out the front page for the full story. Good news. Is there a way to deinstall it if it's not stable?
jrrjrr
I first tried installing this to a second OSX partition, because I didn't have the 1.8 GB available on the boot partition, but that did nothing. It set up parallel System, Library, etc folders and files between the two partitions and the boot volume was left with all un-updated pieces. Then I tried the copy from second partition to the boot partition thing, and found out you can't do that while your Mac is running because some of the files are in use and locked. So I ended up doing it in Windows, using MacDrive. The Mac system actually booted afterwards, and it was using the files I copied over, but it was big-time unstable, so I gave up on that idea. The 1.8 GB of space that the upgrade wants is actually more than it needs. That is the raw space required not taking into account that some of the new files will REPLACE existing files. The installer doesn't do any sort of calculation to try to arrive at a net added space requirement. The 1.8 GB amount is listed as a string in a few of the text files in the update package. I wacked the "1" off of the beginning each time I found it and saved the files back into the package, and that made the installer think it wanted 800 MB now instead. In reality, the upgrade on my machine was a net add of about 900 MB. This is an install originally off the deadmoo image. Installs originally off the DVD are probably different -- maybe a smaller net add with this upgrade. Anyway, lying about the space requirement got it installed on the boot partition and it all went fine. Everything seems to work that worked before - touchpad, sound, external USB and Firewire drives, Broadcom wireless card, etc. Safari (native, not under Rosetta) has both Flash and Java applets working. I have not tried to watch a DVD yet. It was working before with VLC. My machine is a Dell 5150 laptop with at 3GHZ P4 (SSE2), 1.2 GB of PC2700 RAM, nVidia FX5200 video at 1280x1024. I installed from the deadmoo image the week it was available and have been runing it since, using Acronis TrueImage in Windows to save images of the OSX partitions so I can restore them afer I make a mess of things from time to time. Xbench was around 34 prior to this upgrade, and is coming in at around 42 now. So that is about a 25% increase. domino
[rant mode on] You know, I'm really tired of wasting my time checking this thread for any good news, then turning out seeing a bunch of people post useless benchmarks which are irrelevant to the operating system's operations. In other words (for you kids out there), your bench don't mean tihs whether you gain 1000pnt or none. You still can't get the apps working better than 10.4.1. Why don't you people post something worth reading and quit posting post full of tihs. [rant mode off]
