I can't see any kext that could make any troubles there.

Maybe 10.4.8 is a issue, you could try update to 10.4.9/10

yeah i was thinking about that...i was weary about updating to 10.4.9...last time i tried updating from .6 to .8 i hosed my system. :-S

whats the latest 10.4.10 updater? or would it be better to just updatge the kernel?

Mine Works Perfectly :P

Now I'm trying to get the AVIVO (HDTV/S-VIDEO) out to work! I've found that the kext needed for this to work is the following:

ATITVOut.kext

The utility does not recognizes the card, and the preference added to system does not work at the moment. But with the actual utility, it allows you to rotate the monitor!!!!!!!

After rotation the utility crashes, but you can re-open it, and switch back to normal. I'm downloading xcode, to see if I can recompile in Intel enviroment.

Here is the link for the utility:

http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/mac/atidisplays4-5-7.html

It did not mess up the Installation of Jccool Method, I still got full support for my x1950xt.

Best Regards

Ok got some great news. I've got the ATI Display Utilities fully supported on the X1950XT.

picture2ik4.png

Here are the instructions:

Download the following:

http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/mac/Mac...0G5Updater.html

Open Terminal

sudo su

Make a backup of sysctl

cp /usr/sbin/sysctl /usr/sbin/sysctl.real

Remove sysctl

rm /usr/sbin/sysctl

Create a new sysctl file

nano /usr/sbin/sysctl

Copy and paste the code bellow:

#!/bin/sh
echo "PowerMac11,2"

Hit Control + X

And enter to save the new file

Make it executable:

$ sudo chmod +x /usr/sbin/sysctl

Run the installer just like anyone would. Do not restart your computer before completeing the next step.

Put the real sysctl back.

mv /usr/sbin/sysctl.real /usr/sbin/sysctl

Everything should Just Work. You’ll now have an ATI Displays preference pane where you can tweak all of the “secret” options.

Now I'm still trying to get the AVIVO (HDTV/S-VIDEO) out to work! I've found that the kext needed for this to work is the following:

ATITVOut.kext

The video out does work on Darwin, and it actually lets you work with the RCA out a Darwin's boot prompt, but once the kext's are loaded, I loose the image.

Best Regards

dagn! jelous! haha

thanks for the reply delish. i actually did try this jccool .3pkg when i was on 10.4.6 and it also didnt work, had the same issues im having now. so i went to .8 hoping that it will help, but still. the guy that just hacked the ati control panel, is running 10.4.7 and his/hers stuff is working just fine. i dont get it. it seems so close yet so far away. i dont really have any hacked kext on my system aside from the ones that jas throws in there, as everything worked out of the box. (except sound in, but dont really matter)

 I've updated my profile sorry.

With the ATI control panel, you also get full control over OpenGL, and can customize and override the settings for individual applications. This you cannot do with the displays control panel under os x.

Now, the important piece, is to get full HD out through the provided dongle!!!!!

Apple's DVI-PAL/NTSC adapter works for TV out

options are "overscan" and "best for video"

That means I would have to give up one of my LCD's out of the two, so I can use my Sony Broadcast monitor. The idea here is to be able to host two DVI-D LCD's, and have the video be the 3rd connector (VIVO), to monitor color changes while in FCP 6.

I want to gain the video out port accessible in this card.

x19X0 cards are dualhead only afaik so even if you get TV-Out/HDTV port to work you will still only get 1 DVI + TV-Out/HDTV.

In windows I have to disable one monitor to be able to activate TV-Out.

I have also tried to get a tripple setup to work, but so far getting a second gfx-card to work haven't been successful,

I have tried with a old Mac edition radeon 7000 PCI flashed to PC rom, but only the card I select to post in BIOS work, the other doesn't initialize/load drivers.

jnolla, what method did you use to update from 10.4.8 to 10.4.10? I have the same exact Jas 10.4.8 install on my system. Would like to give that a try, see if i can get my x1950xt working. Thanks

10.4.9 with 8.9.1 update guide.

by netkas @ 18.03.2007 14:20 CEST

you need to have sse3 system for it

1) download kernel, got to irc channel #1049 at irc.osx86.hu

read topic, choose sse3 or sse2 kernel, depends on your cpu. 2) download apple update (for intels) or tubgirl update form thepiratebay (for amds)

3) no more need this step

4) backup you /System/Library/Extensions folder

cp -r /System/Library/Extensions /1048/

5)backup your current kernel -

cp /mach_kernel /mach_kernel_old

6)install update, do NOT PRESS RESTART button after it

7) replace kernel with one dloaded before:

cp /where/you/unpack/kernel /mach_kernel

8) recover applesmbios.kext:

cp -R /1048/Extensions/AppleSMBios.kext /System/Library/Extensions/

9) delete kext:

 rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext

10) repair kexts permissions -

chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions
chown -R 0:0 /System/Library/Extensions

11) To clear diskarb errors

rm /etc/rc.installer_cleanup

(THIS WILL NEED TO BE DONE BEFORE REBOOT)

12) reboot and pray

13) pray a lot

Follow the same steps for 10.4.10. New 10.4.10 kernels on irc #10.4.10 @ irc.osx86.hu, just ask for it, and someone will send you the link.

If you are having problems with the Jccool Method I suggest doing the following.

Open terminal:

 sudo su

Enter root password

cd /System/Library/Extensions

Remove all ATI kext

rm -R ATI*

Reboot

Reinstall Jccool Installer 0.3

Best Regards

@Jnolla,

Hi,

Thanks for posting a way to use x1900 ATi utillities,

When I get a chance I think i'll make an All In One installer that will do jccool 0.3 and ATi utilities, also i'll make a pre patched ATi pkg for those already with the method installed,

thank you for your useful contribution :-)

when i go to #1049 on irc, i see this:

8.9.4 pwned, cyclonefr ;) || 64-bit on intel fixed in sse3 kernel | UNIVERSAL(sse2+sse3) kernel, no sleep - [xxxxxxx| sse3 only, for sleep - xxxx -->2ALL: on nonhpet systems remove appleintelcpu*.kext first | b4 ask read - [xxxxxx

a bit confused not sure which one to get. i have a ss3 cpu.

another question, in our step #2) download apple update. ok apple update only gives you 10.4.10 now, not 10.4.9. from what i understand ur guide is only for 10.4.8 -10.4.9, not 10.4.8 -> 10.4.10.

:)

Just download the combined 10.4.10 from Apple. You don't need to go from 10.4.8 > .9 > .10

In the 10.4.10 room you must ask for the patched intel sse3 kernel!!!!!!!!!

The important component in Jccool package is Natit.kext so you will need to remove that one also.

in terminal as sudo:

rm -R /System/Library/Extensions/Natit.kext

or just drag the Natit.kext to trash, and type your pw when prompted.

to remove the ATI files like jnolla posted you need to type

cd /System/Library/Extensions/

type this to tag for cache rebuild on next boot

sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions

question though,

when i enter those commands i get something like 'overwrite?y/n" what do i press? sorry for my noobness :P

quick explanation of what those commands mean/do:

rm (command for removing) -R (recursive) /System/Library/Extensions/Natit.kext (path to file to delete)

cd (command for change directory) /System/Library/Extensions/ (path)

sudo (execute command as another user) touch (command to set modification date to now) /System/Library/Extensions (path to what file/folder)

And like (almost) always there is a nice tutorial in the tutorial section
