lguru
Hi Semthex, thank you for the invitation in chat. Unfortunately I was unable to join the irc channel and test your last development. Now I'm using sf3 with cpus=1. PC is a HP nc6320 laptop The problem seems to be related to thermal management of T5600 processor. This is the test I made: - Boot with cpus=2: PC is very fast and boot flawlessy. - I used "Temperature Monitor" to monitor both cores temperature. - Without running any other application, waited the PC to stop responding. - Everything working good for about 15 minutes, until temperature reach 50 degrees celsius. At this time PC stuck and stop responding. - If temperature remains higher than 50 degrees, at reboot the PC crashes. Booting with processor at room temperature and running an application that uses a lot of cpu: PC crashes after few minutes. Anyone has made similar tests? Hoping these information are useful Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/32827-infothread-nebukadnezar-amdintel-1048-kernel/page/14/#findComment-275818 Share on other sites

I don't believe this problem has anything to do with temps. I can't even boot without cpus=1, I get constant mDNSResponder errors and time roll backs, as usual with every kernel. My boot temps are around 58/60C and I idle around 49/51C and on kernels that would boot with both cores, I would get maybe 2 minutes before the whole system would crash. I don't know what the problem is, but I had hoped it would've been straighten out by now Edited January 15, 2007 by joe75 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/32827-infothread-nebukadnezar-amdintel-1048-kernel/page/14/#findComment-276141 Share on other sites
newtrax
In your next build, could you please give those of us stuck in VMware a boot flag to disable the switching to 64 bit mode. (-32bit maybe?) I think a flag to disable the macros in /osfmk/i386/asm64.h would enable us to run OS X in VMware on 64 bit host or with Intel Virtualization enabled. Thank you for all your efforts I THINK that the boot flag -legacy keeps any kernel in 32-bit commands only mode. I followed your own vmware install guide using tubgirls amd dvd on a core2duo dell e520, and removing the default -legacy boot flag caused the unsupported 64bit command issue, but replacing it (or typing it at F8 boot) made it work fine in 32bit only mode. semthex
I did waste of research on the mobile issue and found not any DC notebook to be faulty in this case. My guess is that the ACPI and RTC is ugly on those systems, maybe some readding of hpet might help but i am nto sure about this. If so I need to write some new stuff on the weekend which will readd HPET for CD and C2D. Ok, so long just to keep you up to date on this issue. r8plicant
I'm using 10.4.8 with kernel 8.4.1 and I'd like to upgrade to your 8.8.1 kernel. Unfortunately if I switch kernel my laptop doesn't boot, crashes with many extension errors. How can I troubleshoot this? I attached a camera screenshot. Thank you very much! semthex
1.4.8 with 8.4.1 kernel means you have stil the old core framworks/kext. Using a new kernel with it will result in the problems you showed above. Oyu have to update your system fiels to a afull 10.4.8 first. This is btw. the reason why I hate tinkered systems so much Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/32827-infothread-nebukadnezar-amdintel-1048-kernel/page/14/#findComment-285323 Share on other sites

lord_muad_dib
semthex i have a problem with my pc(i forgot to ask help before) after i upgraded my cpu to a dualcore(see the sig). it works flawlessly both cores recognized and kickin'. ....but.... sometimes mac os hangs on boot, lookin in verbose seems it stops just before it should (comparing to a normal boot) mount the root device, but no errors or whatever appears. it's not a big problem, i just need to reboot a couple of times.. but it's kinda annoying when i'll back home i'll post a dmesg and i'll join irc thx Edited January 26, 2007 by lord_muad_dib Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/32827-infothread-nebukadnezar-amdintel-1048-kernel/page/14/#findComment-285333 Share on other sites

Ferret-Simpson
Er. . . I just tried running the auto-update script and it didn't run owing to needing a proxy server on my system. I opened the file and used the code myself to get the file and install it. My kernel has gone from December 9 to November 27. . . Not a big improvement. Gonna restore it from backups. But where do I get a newer kernel? Sorry, never used IRC and I doubt I could find a client that would work in the UoE. Ferret-Simpson
There is no hibernation on OS X. What OS X calls "Sleep Mode" is just standard PC Low-power standby mode, which continues to feed reduced amounts of energy into the Processor, memory and a few other key components to allow them to remain active (Hence why software alarms can wake from standby mode.) You're right, December 9th has reduced my battery life from 5 hours to 3 hours, although I think the lack of display brightness controls is not a big help to that. My biggest niggles with it are the fact that it can't be slept, and it crashes DVD Player - Apparently that may be fixed in a newer revision? So please, where do we go from here?
