Well, Pavo, thanks for NOT answering my question.   That was really really helpful....

And, just as an aside, you can check out which Vega 64 cards are recommended by Apple for their external GPU configurations.....https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208544

My, how odd that they recommend an XFX Vega 64.....and no, Developer or legend or whatever you are, I don't care....

Just gonna point out that these GPUs are only recommended in a "external" GPU configuration. Which we all, assuming yourself knows that we are not using a "external" GPU configuration. My point was its a known fact that XFX GPUs have always had issues in internal GPU configuration in macOS.

So, again, this has nothing to do with the question I asked.   Please go away and fight with someone else over XFX hardware.

As for the XFX not working with macOS, mine works just fine.  I've had it in High Sierra and Mojave - I'm just trying to fine tune it, but as for any major problems, there just haven't been any.....I was hoping to improve it by using the parameters in the Windows driver, but maybe I'll just post elsewhere.....

Okay, I have a perfect driver in Windows, but in trying to convert the values from Windows to Mac, I can't find PP_PhmSoftPowerPlayTable in the registry for my XFX Vega 64 air cooled unit.

If I could find it, I'm sure I can use the process Iodine131 identified to convert it.  I've looked very extensively and I can't find it, no matter how long I look.

The only value that I've found that's even close is PP_PhmSoftWTable, and it's clearly not the same.

Any thoughts out there?

Does anyone want to attempt to answer my question?

Hi @meaganmargaret its true!!! Im not find too PP_PhmSoftPowerPlayTable in the regedit... its because PP_PhmSoftPowerPlayTable exist only in BIOS. Some guys find a away to copy PP_PhmSoftPowerPlayTable directly from BIOS, but have some especie that security mode, so im not know if is possible change the values...another guys was create a regedit file .reg and just insert in regedit...im not sure if works in models like mine and yours...

Maybe some cards not have same registry on regedit. My card Gigabyte not have, im expend hours looking, and nothing... its binary number, and since now im not find too...

My Bios have but you will need see how to find...

BUT...:sorcerer:

See this video, maybe you are understand a little bit... and find a away ...

This guys only change those BIOS and reinsert on GPU.

Im think is too much risk...so im use only in kext or Clover...

Its sounds like proposital that we not have windows registry to copy or compare ...

BUT ... im sure that the "normal" settings you can copy if you use Windows, and with GPU-Z, save the BIOS and make the changes like video above... my card already on warranty and im not change anything... other think is you will need some boring apps in windows like Bios reader, find PP_ and copy then to your info.plist kext...

Just use iHex and copy setting directly to iHex and not need find space etc...

:wink_anim: :brr:

Thank you, Max!!!

I mean, it works now, and it's not bad, but I'd just like to tune it a bit, and the Windows version of the driver is just a little better, so I thought I'd take a shot at seeing if I could convert it.

Again, thank you very much!

Oh great...!!! Did you find it? Show me a away, please...!!! :w00t:

This is my way, copy the info.plist from AMD10000Controller.kext,and make a kext injector. Put it in EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other,and it works。。For example,I upload a kext,

Core: 1442MHz/1075mV ,Memory: 1045MHz/1075mV,Temp target: 57,Idle fan: 700rpm.

RadeonVegaLowFansSpeed.kext.zip

Hi, I found a link to Your kext on Tonymacx86 and I use it to reduce the fan speed of my Vega64. But while using this kext my Final Cut Pro X is crashing. When I remove it, it works fine, but noisy ... It is probably due to being a different GPU than Yours. The question is how can I adapt it to my GPU? My knowledge in this field is very limited ...

I was looking at the info.plist and couldn't find any figures similar to the values in MHz or mV ...

Could You help me please?

Hello all!

I too had fan issues with the Vega 64 on Mojave and have edited my AMD10000Controller.kext to insert PP_PhmSoftPowerPlayTable as suggest around page 6 (I'll attached the one I used) and is working well however I'm worried it may be slightly different for my particular card? Would this cause any issues?

I have a Sapphire Radeon RX Vega 64 with i7 8700(non K).

Thank you in advance!

Hi my friend, what is your system ? Maybe you could try this settings:

 1642MHz/1150mV, Memory: 1045MHz/1075mV, SOC: 1199MHz, Temp target: 75, Idle fan: 1000rpm

Hey guys, first and foremost, thank you to everyone who has contributed. Great information.

Here is my issue:

I used your patched ATI10000 kext @max.1974 and the fans seemed to be fixed on my Vega 64 but all of a sudden, my Vega GPUTach lights all light up and macOS freezes (I assume the gpu gets too hot) and the system is unusable and I have to force shut down. I don't want to cause any damage to the card but is anyone experiencing the same? Any fixes?

I also have my Vega 64 displaying output through DisplayPort 1.2 and I upped the refresh rate to 100hz. Refresh rate is stable and smooth. No issues there.

Its almost same BIOS my friend, so try this kext that im post. That gave me quiet fans, and good bench scores...

Back up your kext, install with Kext Utility, and run this command in Terminal after kext finish to install:

sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions && sudo kextcache -u /

Restart/Reboot...

Enjoy...:wink_anim:

This is the patched kext I am using. It's your GM modified kext @max.1974. I am on Mojave 10.14.

Thanks my friend @max.1974! I will give it a shot later today and I'll report back with my results. Do you think this will fix the sudden overheat of the Vega 64?

Very Nice @delioroman!!! Im been using with this settings a little while, and in "normal" tasks im not have any issue...but is always better check the temperature, my friend!!!

Good hack!!! Use 2000 rpm first, im use only this settings ...

Please Check this GPUTach LED. Compared with Windows, I can see it flicker abnormality in Mac OSX. Anyone has idea??

But, when I open a video with Quicktime, GPUTach LED works great. It is just confusing.

Hey @max.1974 thank you so much for your reply and assistance!

I am running MacOS Mojave (build 18A391) with a coffeelake intel i7 8700 (non K) and the Sapphire RX Vega 64 (See image below).

I have no intentions of overclocking it or anything, just a nice stable cool set up that I can use the occasional FCP / Photoshop etc.

Also I am very new to all this kext modifying etc so are you able to explain how I put those settings into the Kext? All that I copied was that table with B6020801 005C00E1 060000EE 2B00001B... etc? How does that translate into the settings you've suggested?

Many thanks!

So, @max.1974, I tested out the 2000rpm kext that you provided last night and at first it ran perfectly! The fans adjusted perfectly under load and the card worked very well! I scored a decent score in LuxMark and was very happy. Here is a screenshot:

Vega64_PERFECT.thumb.png.466571b0b56b432d9e71d34ed49ce8b5.png

Unfortunately, my system still suffers the GPU randomly going to 100% utilization randomly and it just stays there until the temps start creeping up. The system now although still functions and doesn't freeze up but I just don't understand why the processor clock just randomly jumps to 100%. I won't have any programs open and it'll randomly jump up to 100%. Sometimes it can be right at boot, or sometimes it doesn't take until 10-15 min until it jumps to 100% and the GPUTach lights will all light up. It is random.

I deleted lilu and whatevergreen kexts from Clover/kexts/other folder and no change. So I infer, it must be the ATI10000Controller kext.

I am using iStat Menu's to monitor my Vega's temps and clocks. Processor clock max 1600ish MHz and the temps start to creep up from 50C up to 70C.

Mine will also do this @Yangbe. Anytime i scroll down on a webpage, the lights will flicker. I guess anytime the GPU processes any data, is when those lights go a little crazy under macOS. Under Windows, the light's are fine. Seems like a driver issue. Windows drivers are much more polished than those on macOS.

Try use this please:

Use Lilu + Whatevergreen + Fakesmc and another Amd10000controller.kext (good performance and low fan).

I hope so you can get fix that!!

New Config for everyone to try out: GPU 1500MHz @ 1.025V | HBM2 1074MHz @ 0.925V

If you have a card that shuts fans off under Windows when it's not under load it will do this under macOS as well. Trick is to set idle and min. fan speed to 100.

For me this setting runs super quiet and cool. Near to no coil whine. 190,000 in Geekbench and 29,000 in Luxmark.

Hi @ICULikeMac

Sorry im not see your post above...so sorry!!!

Are you can try the best kexts to slow fan and good performance...

If you are new im suggest you to add on clover settings.

Post your info.plist without serial on SMBIOS, im will insert settings on clover.

Im try very hard learning how can adjust the configurations, so im recomend you use standart settings.

See my explain in Youtube channel:

New Config for everyone to try out: GPU 1500MHz @ 1.025V | HBM2 1074MHz @ 0.925V

If you have a card that shuts fans off under Windows when it's not under load it will do this under macOS as well. Trick is to set idle and min. fan speed to 100.

DUE TO LOW VOLTAGE IT MIGHT NOT RUN STABLE FOR EVERYONE!

Hi Chris, what app are you using to edit this? VGATab-en.app?

Hi @max.1974

Thank you again for your replies and continued support.

Sorry I probably wasn't clear in my first post, I had previously added a softpowertable in the info.plist as pictured below. This worked and the fans are at idle 700RPM with normal activity; temps around 40c & Luxmark score 30800 so that is fine but all I wanted to know was whether that softpowertable configuration I added is safe for the card I'm running? I just don't know what all the number mean after the entry.

Also just to confirm you wanted the info.plist from the AMDController10000.Kext not the clover config.plist from the EFI file right?

Thanks again.

Does anyone know if this works with a RX580 too?

It uses the AMD9500controller.kext instead of AMD10000controller.kext so we should be able to inject similar values?

I want to undervolt and adjust the fan curve...

I'm using a Sapphire RX580 4GB Pulse and it works great in Windows 10 using latest AMD drivers but in macOS 10.14 the card runs +5c hotter and fans start to spin up 20% when the card hits 50c. I have tried editing the BIOS using Polaris Editor (undervolt, adjust mhz, fans etc) which works fine in Windows (confirmed in GPU-Z and AMD Wattman) but in macOS the AMD9500controller.kext seems to take over BIOS settings and adjust to its own defaults!!

Hi My friend!! Im use just 2 settings, because im never change with another or try another...not is good to my Vega...

is this:

Core: 1642MHz/1150mV, Memory: 1045MHz/1075mV, SOC: 1199MHz, Temp target: 70, Idle fan: 700rpm - probably yours

and

Core: 1642MHz/1150mV, Memory: 1045MHz/1075mV, SOC: 1199MHz, Temp target: 75, Idle fan: 1000rpm

You can choice and just add in softpowertable. Im recommend for you, add in Clover, like CMMChris use, and add with my method here:

And settings to choice was here:

Sorry im not advanced user, im just use okrasit settings, and try best performance. To me now is very good.

Any models can use powersofttable because the Bios is almost the same. So settings are the same, doesn't matter the models...sorry to me if my English is not so acure...

I Hope you enjoy this much is I am...

@okrasit Thanks! I meanwhile fixed it myself though. Created an undervolted custom config with VGTab and 1500MHz max clock that runs stable on my machine. Gets me a solid 185k score in Geekbench and 29k score in Luxmark. Also, coil whine is completely gone. Sweet! Here is my code if anyone wants to try:

I am using Clover now to inject the settings. Much more convenient than Kext edits / injectors:

Hey Man, Can you share your config.plist about this part??

Thanks a lot
