Thank you aberracus, I found only one online vendor for said Patriot DDR2 667, which makes me a little uneasy. I should have bought some while in the US. Any other endorsements welcome. :D

Hi Detosx,

I have Corsair valueselect 667. It is important to check the voltage requirement of memory. Preferred is 1.8V.

Hi Detosx,

Thank you Topazbar! I have always heard good things about Corsair, respected and stable brand, few duds. At this point building a stop-gap budget computer seems more important than absolute overclocking potential; I can almost smell the AMD quad chips! No, wait, that'll be the energy hungry Intel quads melting someone's motherboard! Still, with winter approaching...

What sort of overclock did you get you get? Any tips? :D I need to rewind this thread. Darned dial-up!

Caution tho'. My corsair is running at 533 and I believe this is because of my Pentium D805 which is running at 533. So I cannot confirm that it will run at rated speed of 667.

I initially bought this in anticipation of upgrading to conroe this Xmas. So, I will found out later on, or you can found out for me if you decide to get it. BTW, I don't overclock at all.

I read on a review of the moatherboard on an overclocking site and it said that using 667 memory would in many instances run slower than 553! I might try a small overclock once everything is up and running. As for upgrading, I would instead be tempted to save up the pennies for the AMD quad core and wait until the prices fall!

Hi again!

Does anyone know whether SATA DVD burners work unter OSx86?

I ordered a Samsung SH-S183A today.

I hope for PatchBurn if it isn't supported natively.

Thanx

"Unter" Mac OS works a SH-W163A for me!

It has SATA... :)

Grüße hehe

I am planning to buy a new rig to run hackintosh on it. I am confused between to ASrocks boards. My 1st option is getting ASrock 775i65G with GMA 900. It is cheap and I have already extra 1GB DDR I can use it so it makes things much cheaper. But as AFAIK they stopped selling AGP cards for x1600 series here so I may not have the option to upgrade in the future. Still I would like to know if I can use this gma900 to run games like counterstrike source.

The second option of course is getting this awesome ASrock Conroe945G-DVI. The gfx card is much better, PCIe but I will need to buy a new 2x512 DDR II 667 RAM.

I am planning to use Pentium D Pressler 3.0Ghz and 19"LCD display. I have extra ATA 30GB HDD I am planning to use to install mac os on it.

So do I need SATA drives or not ?

What do you say about the two asrocks boards ?

Thanks

Just created a new platform with this board yesterday...

New config:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 @ 2.0GHz (285x7)

ASRock 945G-DVI

Gskill DDR2 667 512MBx2 (CL4-4-4-12)

Maxtor 250GB 16MB Cache SATA-2

NEC 7170A 18X DVDRW

JaS 10.4.7 RepackISO + JaS 10.4.8 Update

xBench scores 141

everything goes fine!

EXCEPT there will be a PANIC after idling/using the onboard LAN for too long

anyone got the same problem??

Very nice setup.

Never seen a panic on mine. I do use all day long and do all kinds of stuff.

Possible problem:

memory timing (most likely)

overheated processor

wrong patch selection from jas stuff

i would like to remark that the memory im using is excellent is rated as DDR2 667 but can be overcloked easily to 900 Mhz, it was one of the bests in Anantech review of midlle budget memorys, they came with heatspreaders and are working wonderfully, i usee to buy Corsair Value ram but they arent very good for OC.

just my two cents

my friend got a similar setup and he fixed the problem by using a intel lan card instead of the onboard lan :D

the memory timing is set to default (4-4-4-12)

and the temperature is normal (40'c something)

Hi, I have a question --

I have this board coming to me in the next day/two. I need firewire, so I need to buy an add-on external card.

Any recommendations for something that works out of the box (e.g. on a clean install it will be auto-detected)?

I do have a preference for a recommendation, however, and that is I have a nice Lian Li case with a front panel that contains a Firewire port. Is there any way to attach this to an internal firewire port that some Firewire cards have? Is there a cable that can convert the interface on the front panel cable to a regular 6 pin firewire cable?

Thanks in advance...I hope others here that own this board have done something similar.

EDITED:

No sooner than I post here after giving up, I found this:

SYBA IEEE 1394a FireWire PCI Card with Internal 9-pin Header Model SD-VIA-FW1E1H

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16815124034

It has the 9 pin header and works with Mac OSX out of the box....Just FYI for 945G DVI users ;)

yea. I have the same problem too, and I installed with the same patch, and the Onboard LAN is making my comptuer restart.

I have 4-4-4-12 RAM as well Dual Channel 2*1GB (OCZ GX XTC PC2-5400).

and I installed with the exact same patch.

I tried to starta a thread, but nobody answered, and nobody else had that problem. Anyhow, perhaps it's the RAM's timing problem?

Hi,

About the crashes:

Have you checked the screensaver settings? My Asrock also did quit after 15 minutes of inactivity. After turning the screensaver (and powersaving options) off my machine has been rock stable.

Asrock 945, Conroe 6300, 1 Gb of PC 4200 4.4.4.12, WD SataII drive and LG DL DVD burner.

Best wishes

Cat_7

just fixed the problem by using a PRO100 Lan card :)

actually I think neither the ram timing nor the screen saver settings cause the panic,

it's all about the onboard Lan...

anyway...

I don't mind adding a piece of Lan card to operate,

but I hope there will be a solution to fix the crash later :thumbsdown_anim:

CHEERS~

I recommend two things:

1) run memory excersizer overnight from Windows.

2) operate onboard Lan with Windows for a day or two.

Because we are running mobo designed to run Windows, I would trust diag from Windows more.

If that is the case, then I would rule out memory - you cannot operate Windows for that long with incompatible memory. Also, I would say onboard lan is fine.

This leads me to one conclusion: problem is in SOFTWARE - incompatible versions of OSX components.

What are you running on this box, exactly? Well if you knew that you wouldn't be in this situation.

Well, what software do you have? Do you have 10.4.4? That is the last full release from Apple and I trust it more than any other (for diagnostic purpose).

P.S. Go to anantech's website and research for extensive memory test program (don't have an recommendation here). And run it until you are satified that memory is O.K.

the onboard Lan works prefectly in windows. I kept my computer running for 1 week and nothing went wrong.

memory exerciser... could you recommend a program?

thank you

Yea, I'd say it's not the memory problem as well. :)

anyhow, this is what I'm running:

Asrock Conroe945G-DVI MB

E6300

2*1GB Dual Channel RAM

Segate 320GB SATAII HD (for win xp)

Western Digital 320GB IDE HD (for OS X)

Samsung DVD-RW (works fine)

all others are onboard, like LAN, Sound, Video...

I don't see how this could go wrong...

yup...

i think it is the Lan driver which cause the problem,

the hardware and settings should be fine...

as I have mentioned, my friend got the same problem...
