1. Basic guide about nVidia kexts

Thanks again for your suggestions, but this causes the 'gray screen of death' ("you must reboot...").
2. Basic guide about nVidia kexts

OldNapalm, Here's the current status; you help is most welcome (and most needed): *as before, booting into ##### cd then OSX 10.6.5 brings up a 1600x1200 desktop, all parts working. *after installing Chameleon; booting brings up 1024x768 desktop, no QE etc. Then, after modifying the boot.plist *first, as per your guide [shown below] ** then with PciRoot set to "0" (since the autodetect utility you referenced found that value) ***then withOUT the PciRoot two lines In each case, the system boots as far as the blue screen, and halts. <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string></string> <key>GraphicsEnabler</key> <string>y</string> <key>PciRoot</key> <string>1</string> </dict> </plist> Please help ! ----------- Intel dg965wh + GeForce 7300GT
3. Searching through this forum turns up few discussions about this onboard sound card with 10.6.5, and fewer with sufficient details to replicate. Has anyone here had success w/ 10.6.5? If so, please tell us precisely which kexts you used. Many thanks for any help. ------------------------- Intel dg965wh mobo
4. Basic guide about nVidia kexts

OldNapalm, Thank you for such a quick reply. Let's tackle this from another angle: before I try your method (editing the plist), obviously I need to install Chameleon. What method or installer would you recommend for 10.6.5 ??
5. Basic guide about nVidia kexts

OldNapalm, Would you kindly advise on the following problem? *GeForce 7300GT card, in Intel dg965wh mobo, Core 2 duo (64-bit) *OSX 10.6.3 installed w/ TonyMac's "#####", then upgraded to 10.6.5 *as is (booting from #####), the graphics works perfectly: 1600x1200 res, eye candy (QE etc) all fine. *so, clearly, the 'correct' kexts etc are 'there' for the OS to find. However.... if I install Chameleon (via TonyMac's "#####"), whether with or without any changes to the boot plist, OSX will boot only into a low resolution (1024x768) with no QE etc. This problem was reported twice on the TonyMac forums, but no solution was offered. (I'm not sure, therefore, if it is a Chameleon issue or a ##### issue.) What would you suggest I try? Is there an installer for Chameleon that you would recommend?
6. Leopard and XP on 2 seperate drives

Hi; It's really simple (so simple that I stumbled onto it by accident): (1) Be sure your Windows hdd is working fine, with original boot loader. (You can always re-install Windows boot loader by starting a clean install, then when prompted that there is already an installed OS, choose "repair".) (2) Go into your BIOS, and be sure that the OSX hdd is set to boot first. (3) Install OSX on its hdd. When you re-boot, the Darwin boot loader will "see" a "foreign" bootable partition (that's your Windows hdd); simply elect it. If this does not work for any reason, then install the Easy BCD bootloader (which is what I have).
7. Leopard Animations Becoming Slow

I have noticed the same problem, and there is nothing amiss in Activity Monitor; cpu usage is minimal (E6600), and only 1 of 2gb ram is active.
8. To hackintosh or not to hackintosh

In no particular order of your criteria: 3. Stability: For a list of stable motherboards, check this link: http://######.com/blog/?p=32 I'd add to that list the Intel DG965WH; I successfully installed Kalyway, with no problems, and everything working. (However, you need to buy a video card -- the onboard video is not recognized -- so add about $60 for a 7600GT card.) 1. Dual booting: here is a simple trick: use two hdd's; install XP; install OS X afterwards, and the Darwin boot loader will "see" a foreign partition when you boot and choose F8 for options; click on that, you get an error message, and immediately afterwards, XP. 2 Cheap: pick a 945 chipset mobo (again, see link above) 4 Longevity: ah, this conflicts with "cheap", since low cost = last generation architecture, and many limitations. So, my $0.02 would be the Intel 965 chipset, /not/ the 945.
9. Let me get this straight

mtotho, IMVHO there aren't any good tutorials UNLESS you have exactly the same hardware. A lot of the problems installing OSX seem related to bios settings, controllers, and video cards (drivers). The best recommendation is: get a blank hdd, disconnect the others (so you can't screw them up accidentally), and try an installation.
10. hfs+partition error

Dense, Is there a simple way to use Gparted (or other bootable cd) to completely erase the MBR before reformatting and reinstalling....just in case something is corrupt there?
11. <bump> Edited for the last day's efforts with Kalyway.... Please help !
12. With either iATKOS or Kalyway, I have no problem booting into the installation (system specs are below); however, with or without any options selected, the installation progresses almost to the end (the blue bar progresses about 95% of the way), then locks up, and an error message is generated: server_shutdown bootstrap_register Service name already exists Can anyone suggest a solution? p.s. I have tried formatting via Gparted for iATKOS, and via the OSX disc utility (for both mrb and guid) for Kalyway, with the same result. --------------------- System: Intel DG965WH mobo Asus nVidia 7300 GT video card Intel E6600 cpu Seagate 320gb sataII hdd
13. My system is perfect- bad axe 2 Q6600.

Thank you. Every guide makes some assumptions about what the user understands (i.e. what needs explanation...and what doesn't). IMVHO the key steps to explain are (1) which kexts (etc) to use (name of file, link to forum or other, etc), (2) which image (no source, of course, but the full name helps a search, and (3) most importantly, the step-by-step. Remember, most of us who have never used OSX don't know /where/ to even find the command line (like Windows, I assume, you have to know the keyboard shortcut, or where in the menus to find it). I am very keen on following your guide.
14. Need info from hack users

Which devs....Apple's ?

tasc, Thank you ! It's amazing what a search can find with the right spelling.
