Manually set the Multiplier in the bios, 20x or 21x and use that as the busratio. Only use cpus=1 for now as I believe you'll need 10.6.2 or .3 for 980x support.

Once you've installed like that and used my support files (FINAL Pack) you can try without flags and it'll probably work.

I have used the boot 132 disk first with -v -x cpus=6 arch=i386 busratio=25 or 27 tried both

with this method I get a black screen after a bunch of commands

Then I tried #####+##### with the same flags and I get the Firewire error

I have a hot swappable bay so I can easily pull out my SSD drive and plug it to my macbook pro.

BTW if anybody lives in the L.A. area I'd pay $20 for some help and $80 if you are able to make it work.

Dude, why don't you listen? You can boot on that cpu vanilla/stock kernel (10.1.0, 10.2.0, 10.3.0) yet. Maybe in 10.6.4, who konws. Macs don't have 6 cores(12) anywhere. Max is 2x2cpus 4 cores per cpu (8/16). So if you want to do the install, you need a patched kernel. I can help.

Okay here how you do it: (and somethings i'll assume 'cause i don't know them for sure - need your feedback)

Short guide:

1

- since you have a macbook pro and can use it (i assume), that helps a lot

- if your using that hd only for mac os x then go further with the guide (assuming)

- just plug it to the mac and format it as GPT (like macs do) (assuming that's the case, and don't want to dual boot with windows etc)

- then insert your snow dvd and let it mount or mount the img (if the case)

- use the show hidden files tool to make the hidden files visible

- double-click on the dvd/img icon, now you can see a folder system

- navigate system>installation>packages>osinstall.mpkg

- double-click on it and go with the install, BUT don't forget to choose the installation path the plugged in hd, and choose customized install and select only the essential system files (for a proper install and a successful screen install at the end) (the rest can be install after you're in the os as optionals, if you want to)

-use tool and make files hidden again

- that was the easy part

- now the real easy part

2

- if your snow dvd/img was 10.6 version do the following if was 10.6.3, you don't need to

- download (if you didn't yet) the 10.6.3 v.1.1 combo from apple site and install it on the plugged hd

- now the super easy part

3

- from "support files" pack or if you prefer kup's 2 packs (same thing)

- install chameleon (AsereBLN booter) !!! don't forget to choose the plugged in hd as path to install !!! - don't restart yet

- from second folder, copy the Extra content to the Extra folder on the plugged hd or just replace it - but skip/remove these file asus.aml.zip; after you boot the os in your pc, you can generate your own dsdt.aml file (you can't do it from here, 'cause will be macbook pro's dsdt), so you'll use the one in Extra for now, and if it works to boot, you'll make one for yourself (i'll tell you how), and if doesn't work to boot (don't panic), come back and tell

- ignore the third folder

- download and install binary patched AppleHDA.kext as posted above

- install the patched kernel, choosing the plugged hd as install path

-now the super real easy part

4

- boot the hd in the pc

- come back and tell if it worked

- p s - when you have a real mac at hand, you could manage things easily; don't need for cd-boot, #####, etc

Cool. I'll give mine a go, I was using EFI strings until now.

Right, once 10.6.3 is fully installed and updated, download User_01's AppleHDA and drag it into 'Kext Helper B7' as in my guide for the 10.6.2 AppleHDA. Reboot and it should fix Audio in 10.6.3. :P

Don't forget to run UpdateExtra!

Ok I booted the system!!!

Used: -v -x arch=i386 busratio=20

Under about this Mac it recognizes the 6 cores

The only thing I noticed during the boot was a firewire security error that I mentioned before I believe.

Now trying with:

-v -x cpus=6 arch=386 busratio=27

This worked as well

internet working

Under about mac says processor unknown but still under hardware spec there are 6 cores.

What's the command to force 64bit mode?

And what's to do next? Do I have to go through that command line every time?

Thanks for all the posts. I successfully installed Snow Leopard with current updates on P6X58D-E with i7 930@3.8Ghz, GTX 260, 6GB. I was in 3.8Ghz at install. Unfortunately, I wasted too much time trying ##### + #####, Empire EFI ... I wish I had found this thread earlier!

I basically followed the guide in post #135. For some reason, Boot-132 CD was not working for me. And yes, I tried many command line arguments. Boot-132 would never start the SL install. I resorted to #####-Supported from tonymacx86 site. I downloaded support files ahead of time to a USB Flash drive---the Extra folder with DSDT, 10.6.3 combo update ... From that point on, I basically followed the guide replacing Boot-132 with #####. I had to type in -x parameter at boot time.

The network did not auto connect even after several reboots. I had to go into System Preferences and click on en0 and hit Apply a few times. Not sure why it helped, but that made it work.

This new installation seems slower than my C2D e8400 GA-31M hackintosh  This same i7 box flies with Windows 7 x64. My Geekbench score is 6586 which seems to be on the low end when compared on GeekBench site. Any suggestions?

This new build is definitely slow. I ran Xbench on my 13.3" MBP and it handily beats my box on CPU Test, Quartz Graphics Test and OpenGL Graphics Test. I didn't bother with disk test since I have an Intel SSD on the MBP.

An i7@3.8Ghz with GTX 260 should smoke any retail MBP, iMac and even Mac Pros (on CPU Test)!

Hi, can you help me?

Installation stops here

I don't know what the heck is going on. I loaded defaults in the BIOS, meaning I'm running at 2.8Ghz instead of 3.8Ghz.

GeekBench Mac @ 3.8Ghz = 7316

GeekBench Mac @ 2.8Ghz = 9494

WTF? I know the box is configured correctly and stable since I did all my burn-in and benchmark testing in Win7 x64 before installing SL.

Mine was 10000

then I installed the updates 10.6.3 (didn't work after this update)

so I turned off the PC unplugged the drive plugged through the mini usb to my MBP installed ##### utility, I only used the Advanced Settings, if you use this check only the settings you really need.

#####

I fixed a few things around

##### demo video

After this my score went up to 15000

although I'm still running in safe mode 32bit...

Need to figure out how to run 64bit with the 980x

Can anybody tell me what to do post successful boot? Like how to cut the booting time and run 64 bit?

Don't forget to run UpdateExtra!

What's UpdateExtra?

I might reinstall then. Installing directly from a MBP to an attached USB drive would be much simpler.

There's a 64 bit com.apple.Boot.plist option in #####. I tried it and my system boots in 64-bit. Verify through System Profiler utility -> Software -> 64-bit Kernel and Extensions: Yes

You should not have to run in safe mode once you have SL installed. I only had to use the -x switch for installation.

Not running in safe mode anymore. I installed 64bit with ##### will try again. But it might be a CPU problem, on the apple info it's not able to identity the CPU.

Really stumped about benchmarking. After several hours of investigation, I found two settings which adversely affect the performance of my 3.8Ghz overclock:

GeekBench score: SpeedStep Enabled in BIOS = 12,445 Disabled = 7,316

That's more than a 5,000 point difference in GeekBench. I ALWAYS disable SpeedStep when overclocking because I don't want the OS/CPU changing the sensitive values I entered for my stress tests. (this is not an issue in Windows 7)

The next thing I tried was install NullCpuPowerManagement.kext without SpeedStep.

NCPM installed in /Extra = 11,686 removed = 7,389

Huh? Why does installing that actually help my overclock performance?

Probably because the dsdt.aml file you're using was extracted from a little different mobo with another version of i7. Try booting with Null kext (plus OpenHaltRestart.kext) in E/E and without a dsdt.aml file, setup your bios settings as you want them to be (SpeedStep, OC etc) and extract your own dsdt.aml with this GUI patcher (the resulted file will be on root, copy it to Extra after and delete that one; select only destination, darwin, apply to).

After - don't forget to remove the Null kext (and OpenHaltRestart.kext too, the restart/shut down should be fixed by dsdt file)

Redo the tests!

If you're using chameleon v2 rc 4 (or AsereBLN 1.1.9 variant), the booter tries to boot by default in 64-bit mode anyway. If you used the files from support files (or from kup's pack - same files) then if you go to E/E (Extra/Extensions), you'll see a com.apple.Boot.plist file; copy it to desktop; open it with textEdit; remove/insert any flag you want between strings (leave a space between them); arch=i386 forces the os to boot in 32-bit mode.

I followed instructions. Upon boot, I created and moved newly created dsdt.aml into /Extra. Then, I removed NullCPU and OHRestart kext from E/E. Ran Kext Utility. Rebooted

Without those two files => 7,763

Reboot with those two files => 11, 943

I'm going to reinstall tonight so I will make a guide as I go.

Thanks for the work Kup =) all the files you posted however are now offline, did you take them down to re-up a new version?

I will be trying this next week on my p6x5d

btw, how was your re-install? did you get around to putting together a guide :(?

also, is it possible to use 10.6.3 server or 10.6.3 image?
