[HowTo] X1600/X1800 Full Support (Borisbadenov Method)

The last couple of days were frustrating since I have applied the patch tot make a Sapphire x1950 pro to work. With no success. Everytime it results in a kernel panic.

Does anybody know what would be the likely cause of this. Is the binary part of the kext not up to date? And if so will the Ati kexts from Leopard give more chance success?

I like the x1950 pro. It would be a pity to have to sell it because there is no qi and ci possible with it. Resolutions can be changes since the ATINDRV does load. The one from the JaS DVD that is.

Thanx in advance for any help and answers

Same issue here with a HIS X1950pro ice3q, only refer to ID Device 7280 in my case into AtiRadeonX1000.kext causes a kernel panic., I am well confused with this matter.

Hey,

I'm having some video issues:

Number one is, VLC player plays movies back a little too fast, and it makes the audio all choppy. When I play movies with quicktime, I often see spots on the display. Also, i'm not sure if it's related, but the computer freezes fairly often, especially when graphics intensive.

I have an AGP x1600 card (connected with VGA adapter) and JaS 10.4.8 with 8.8.1 Semthex kernel. I used the Neopheus 3.6 installer.

Thanks so much for any help/suggestions you guys can make,

Would updating the kernel be a good idea? I think my version is from Oct.28

Yes, the speed problem is caused by the kernel. There is a way to fix it if you read the 10.4.8 link in my signature. Also find ways to upgrade your kernel there.

Oh me oh my, it's working great now! Thanks Rammjet! and Prasys for the installer! and semthex for the kernel! woohoo. ;)

I seem to be unable to get core image and quartz extreme to work with my Sapphire X1600XT.

I followed all instructions and everything is working great, except this is what I see in system profiler under graphics:

Type: VGA-Compatible Controller

Bus: PCI

VRAM (Total): 256 MB

Vendor: ATI (0x1002)

Device ID: 0x71c0

Revision ID: 0x0000

Displays:

SyncMaster:

Resolution: 1024 x 768 @ 85 Hz

Depth: 32-bit Color

Core Image: Not Supported

Main Display: Yes

Mirror: Off

Online: Yes

Quartz Extreme: Not Supported

Rotation: Supported

I am trying to build a Mac Pro here any suggestions pls, also u can mail me at ajitabhpuri@gmail.com

Cheers

Does anyone have an EAX1600XT that works with OS X that they would like to sell? I purchased one half a year ago but I got rev. 3 which there seems to be no way to make it work with OS X. My hackintosh has been dead in the water for over half a year since I just have a DVI monitor (Apple 23"). I have an ASROCKDual-775 motherboard which works with the built in VGA. I have also tried an ADD2 card and that seems to not work for me either. Anyway, if anyone has a card they want to sell PM me and let me know...I would love to have my hackintosh back up and running!

Thanks,

Andrew

ok so i have OSx86 Jas 10.4.7and an ati x1600 and a dell lcd monitor with both vga and dvi outs (both of whitch are connected)

if i try to boot normally the display will get really messed up and blocky????

however..... if i boot into safe mode and switch to my vga input on my lcd it will boot fine but at a low resolution...

in safe mode it does give me the option to change the resolution. so i changed it to 1600x1050 and my screen went black....

so just to make sure i switched my lcd to dvi input and bang! my screen was successfully set and working great at 1600x1050...

i still havn't been able to get my display to work on either input connection booting normally?

any ideas??

How do I find the referece for the Product ID and Vendor ID?

I have ATI X1650 Pro.

Thanks!

BorisBadenov X1600/X1800 Full Support Solution

GUIDE VERSION: 0.3

Credit goes out to borisbadenov for getting the official Apple drivers to work with X1600 and X1800 cards.

For the latest info and discussion about this method, refer to the 'boris thread' here

Remember the golden rule: Your Mileage May Vary. User experience has shown:

- X1600 and X1800 cards have been known to work

- 10.4.4 and 10.4.6 can give artefacts - if you get these, try 10.4.5 (eg Myzar disc)

- DVI support varies. Some can only use VGA (analogue) signal.

- The 'perfect' card for 10.4.6 is the ASUS X1600XT Silent - Sleep, DVI etc working

- Some support of dual displays may be possible. However it is not possible right now.

- Cards on motherboards supporting SLI modes (ie two cards in parallel) may have issues with this solution.

Also note you need a 10.4.4, 10.4.5 or 10.4.6 installation, and an ATI X1600 or X1800-based card.

How to Apply the Patch:

1) (Optional) Remove all GeForce and ATIRadeon kexts from /System/Library/Extensions EXCEPT:

ATIRadeonX1000.kext

ATIRadeonX1000GA.plugin

ATIRadeonX10000GLDriver.bundle

ATIRadeonX1000VADriver.bundle

ATINDRV.kext

2) Open a terminal and type:

sudo -s (and enter your password)
cd /System/Library/Extensions/ATINDRV.kext/Contents/
emacs Info.plist

Find where it says:

<string>IONDRVDevice</string>

and modify it to read:

<string>IOPCIDevice</string>

Now find where it says:

<string>ATY,Wormy</string>

and modify it to read:

<string>display</string>

Press and hold Ctrl key and press X then C to exit. Press 'y' to save the file before you exit.

3) Go to the Apple menu, select 'About this Mac' and click 'More Information' to bring up System Profiler. You need to locate the display adapter (graphics card) and find the Vendor ID and Product ID. Make a note of these.

4) Now go back to your Terminal session and type:

cd /System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeonX1000.kext/Contents
emacs Info.plist

Find the line containing 'IOPCIMatch' (ctrl-S to search in emacs). The next line needs to be modified to contain your Vendor and Product IDs. Take the vendor id and product ids and combine them. For example, lets say the vendor ID is 1002, and your device ID is 71c2. You combine them to a string 0x71c21002 (the 0x just means its a hex value).

The line immediately after the one containing IOPCIMatch should contain your newly-created string. For example:

<string>0x71c21002</string>

Ctrl-X-C to exit, pressing 'y' to save the file.

Now type:

cd /System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeonX1000GA.plugin/Contents/
emacs Info.plist

You should be able to find two lines which look something like this:

<key>100271c2-0000-0000-0000-000a27898d3e</key>
<string>100271c2-0000-0000-0000-000a27898d3e</string>

You need to modify these to match your Product and Vendor IDs. NOTE that the string is constructed the 'other way round' this time - ie its vendor first then product. (ie 100271c2, not 71c21002).

When you have modified the file accordingly, Ctrl-X-C, then y to save.

5) Now time to clean up and get ready to boot.

Type:

rm /System/Library/Extensions.mkext
rm /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache
diskutil repairPermissions /

6) Reboot and cross your fingers / toes / hair / teeth. When it boots again, you should have the ability to change the screen resolution in System Preferences->Display. You should also have full Core Image, Quartz Extreme and OpenGL acceleration, and no mouse tearing artefacts.

NOTES:

* You may have to try each output of your card, or try thru a DVI-VGA adapter to get a display.

* You may experience artefacts or other corruption. 10.4.5 seems to work best.

* If you have an X1800 card, the 10.4.5 kexts/frameworks seem to be the only working versions.

* System Sleep may or may not work. If you get it to work fully, post your findings in the boris thread.

* To speed up boot times, remove AppleHWSensor.kext from your extensions folder.

GOOD LUCK! :D

Hi all especially JaS: thanks for the optimum DVD work ( 1048 881 intel amd sse2 sse3 ) i need support and a manual method explicitly for the Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950Pro PCIEx 256 GDDR3 (id 7280) and to eventually enable full QE and CI (is there a real method or it is pure hoax in forums?). I sometimes read about kext modification but in all 20 cases i had to reinstall the OS....please post a definitivite method ....help...... :thumbsup_anim: thanx in advice to all!!!!!!!

  • 2 weeks later...

I just installed the lastest JaS 10.4.8 with semthex 8.8.1 kernel on a ASRock 775 dual 915gl mobo with onboard GMA900 graphics and an aditional ATI X1300 Pro 256mb card. When I ran the new install off the onboard video, ran fine. I installed with the ATI X1000 patch on the DVD. WHen I went to run the OS off the ATI card, it loaded, went past the grey screen with apple logoi, then the screem went all blue and I could not shift it.

Solution? I rebooted using the onboard video c ard, found the vendor and device ID's of the ATI Card, used my method to edit the kexts, fixed permissions, etc, and after a reboot, the card works like a charm; full QE/CI.

Skywalker, I would update to 10.4.8 with the newer kernel. It also works fine with 10.4.9 and the 8.9.1 kernel

Good luck
