robi62
Updated iDeneb 10.5.5 to 10.5.6, with only one problem so far, when I try to set time machine to do a backup, it complains about "Time Machine could not be configured. The built-in network interface could not be found." Anyone thoughts? davoid
Lost PS2 mouse and keyboard, but got them back with new kexts for them (had to use virtual keyboard and USB mouse to type in the password ) Hi LuvMac, just wondering which kexts you used to get back PS2 and keyboard functionality? I have an Asus p5k-VM which intially crashed during the update (installed from downloaded update installer package, not through software update). I then booted from a separate drive and applied the update to the OSX system that had crashed, and it worked a treat after I removed appleintelCPUpowermanagement kext. Now works really well, graphics, sound all OK. Haven't tested firewire yet but my Xtest benchmark improved by quite a bit. The only issues is the keyboard. I can't use the numeric keypad and PS2 won't work. I used an original apple keyboard and various other combos but the numeric pad still doesn't want to accept numbers. An annoyance given some of the problems hackintosh and Mac retail users seem to be experiencing but would be good to fix. Any help appreciated. getiton
Worked fine on my machine. I have a Gigabyte P35-DS3L Rev 2.0. Upgraded from 10.5.5. All I did was update to Efi V9, apply the patch and install the update. hg2007
After 3 attempts I finally got mine up and running (partly thanks to a member on here iTome), first attempt I didn't add a disabler.kext which ended in a kernel panic during install (thank god for time machine), second attempt worked but no mouse or keyboard when I tried to log on, installed via .dmg update on third attempt and added some PS2 kext's I found on this forum which worked perfectly. I needed to add my old AppleSMBIOS.kext to sort out the system profiler and patch IOnetworkingfamily.kext to get time machine to work (it's still a bit slow though. Once I got everything up and running I can say this update makes everything run nice and smooth. Everything's working as it should, firewire, graphics, sound ect Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141093-1056-released/page/24/#findComment-1005248 Share on other sites

shortbus
Hello, I wanted to give an update before I catch up on the thread. (I am on page 22) I had the "Waiting for root device" message. Here is what I did to 'fix' it. I used the AHCI kexts as someone suggested. Sorry, I don't remember who it was to give credit. (I'll look it up and edit the post.) I also used the UUID string for my OSX boot drive and I used DFE's boot cd. I am not sure if either of these two are required for the work around but the AHCI was definately required. I gather the UUID is cleaner/better. Thanks for that. The only odd thing now is that the graphics are funky. It is like they don't update or refresh and the window is all mangled. Like when a Windows app crashes and the window leaves reminates of the app. This also happens when we bowsing with firefox or safari when I scroll up and down. I am going to try a boot string for the NVS290 that came with my machine. It worked perfectly with 10.5.5 although it has restricted resolutions in Sys Prefs. Snerler
Is there a solution for the Kernel Panics when mounting a dmg? my com.apple.plist has mach_kernel as default, which was suggested as a solution earlier, but thats not the problem for me. cham
Hi, After installing pc efi v9 and dsdt patcher, I updated to 10.5.6. Then, reboot and freeze. I am using Voodoo kernel RC1. My machine freezes after the message of "MAC Framework successfully initialized. using 10485 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers". As far as I know, after the message, "ACPI state [s0 S1 ...]" should be shown up. But it does not. Before updating to 10.5.6, I was using Leo4Allv4 updated to 10.5.5. My laptop is Toshiba Satellite M45-S355 whose CPU supports only SSE2. Please give me any clues to resolve this stuck. Thanks. Zeroburn
hi everyone, I was lucky enough to do a straight update with the new Voodoo kernel 1.0 installed, worked great, but I did have to install the AHCI kexts and some of my vanillia kexts to get my laptop's keyboard and trackpad working. I'm use a Compaq Persario C751, everything is now working fine, but I do have one annoying issue. No Netflix Instant Watch. I get the dreaded error 8152: "Individualization Failed. Unable to play back protected (DRM) content" Anyone have a solution for this? or a kext they used to help them solve this issue? Vis
open terminal and type kextstat and enter that will tell you running kext on your machine Yea, it's not listed. Plus, I just installed the latest voodoo kernel which I believe blacklists that ktext by default. My temps are down now anyway, I'm not sure what was going on. To be honest, I think the temp monitor program might be a tad off. My temps in windows are slightly lower. Leoopardoo
Just brief summary of my observations on the GFX problems after 10.5.6... As others have already reported here I'm experiencing glitches at startup (background image shows up corrupted for a second) and have mouse lags while iTunes or QuickTime is opened. I have 8800gt (gigabyte) with original mac pro EFI strings on BadAxe2 Mobo (see my spec. below). What I have found is that if I use DSDT (only) without disablers and SMBIOSenablers the system runs ok, BUT I have another problem - after waking up from sleep the mouse is not usable or behaves very strangely and I have to restart the system using the keyboard. The same problem is also reported on official apple forum by Mac Pro users: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?t...6&tstart=-1 Now have to choose which problem is less annoying Obviously there are problems with the update on genuine Mac's as well (at least with Mac Pro's). DrDeelay
I updated without problems from 10.5.5 using Boot-123 and the recent Voodoo-Kernel. gizmoarena
Since I am using a non-vanilla kernel. I just used the while sleep 1; do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext; done and installed the delta updater, then manually installed voodoo kernel and the System.kext. Done USB mass storage stopped working after updating to 10.5.6. I know it is because of the new IOUSBMassStorageClass.kext. Anyone else having this problem? Everything else working fine. Bob Ajob
"...do you think everything installed fine and the 60 percent hang-up was just a weird error? One of my machines did exactly the same. Was working absolutely solid on 10.5.5 but after 10.5.6 update it rebooted at about 60% and after I had problems with sound (easy to fix) and intermittent lack of some USB ports (bit harder to fix but got there eventually) and wierd intermittent interrupt errors for my cheap PCI RTL8169 gigabit ethernet card at startup (tried a few things but no luck identifying the root cause). I guess if everything is working for you the best way to look at it is to consider yourself very fortunate and - "if it ain't broke don't fix it!" If I can't figure out how to resolve my intermittent ethernet issues then I will have to revert back to 10.5.5 indefinitely ... ati card work on 10.5.6 with Qe and CI ? both my ATI cards (2900 and 3870) are working pretty much flawlessly on 10.5.6 although I have other issues, most important being annoying intermittent errors at startup with the cheap fairly standard Realtek RTL8169-based PCI gigabit ethernet card.
