mitch_de
Hi Superhai. This version of the kext, it works perfect with no errors in the boot, but does not display the correct mhz of my cpu. Greetings and thank you very much for your work, MacOff It will be like me: Your CPU is overclocked by higher FSB, which is (until now) not seen by the .kext and it uses the normal FSB (200/266/333). I think its only cosmetic , speed stepping works as it should. Maybe, its the easiest way , superhai adds an default fsb_oc = 1.0 entry in the plist. i use 240 MHZ (200 normal) so i must change fsb_oc = 1.2 (240/200=1.2), default fsb_oc = 1.0 (200/200)=not overclocked) For displaying MHZ, the displayed MHZ = displayedMHZ * fsb_oc Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/123774-new-version-11-of-genericcpupowermanagement/page/8/#findComment-937264 Share on other sites

mitch_de
Thanks mich_de for the info, but i hope at Superhai can fix it. I dare not change anything in the kext, i dont not know how work kext. Greetings, MacOff Sure superhai may fix that (FSB OC = wrong MHZ shown), but it may be easier my way (adding an fsb_oc mutiplicator, default 1.0, if OC ist > 1.0) That changeings for you would be very easy : edit the .plist with your Textedit and save it. After that same chmod , chown commands as for the rights. Also users with the PSTATE problem (BIOS didnt report any CPU PSTATES) have to enable the entry vid_overwrite to YES since beginning of Version 1.0.6. Without that edit those users will not have right VIDS (mV). Each count of those 2 entrys has 16 mV. Default is 16/44 (is 16*16 mV , 44*16 mV). These dmesg tells that the bios (ACPI part of mainboard bios) is a bit buggy: GenericCPUPowerManagement: [Warning] No ACPI p-states in table GenericCPUPowerManagement: [Warning] No ACPI p-states in table GenericCPUPowerManagement: [Warning] No ACPI p-states in table GenericCPUPowerManagement: [Warning] No ACPI p-states in table Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/123774-new-version-11-of-genericcpupowermanagement/page/8/#findComment-937535 Share on other sites
relikwie
As seen be most others: The latest .kext maybe made onyl for getting more cpu information to superhai and was NOT made for working with the control app (shows .kext not active).superhai has engough C2D dmesg logs but still need more Pentium D, Celeron M dmesg logs. Ok, didn't know it was for dmesg requests only. But just tried the latest version and it just works.. Looks very nifty. App's interface, smart and clean. How accurate is the CPU temprature for the 45u C2D's? Anyway, thumbs up for Superhai and his fantastic work, it's appreciated!. mrroboto
With the latest version the app it's stucked to 600MHz. Cpu it's recognized correctly as T8100 2,10MHz. IF it step to higher MHZ then all is OK (means stepping works) but maybe the default setting (we cant change without source code) of step up/down is a bit too much powersaving (more MHZ if > 60% CPU load). Superhai
Updated with the new cpus. And still no pentium m or p4 users around? With the latest version the app it's stucked to 600MHz. Cpu it's recognized correctly as T8100 2,10MHz.It is just cosmetic or it doesn't throttle at all? It should throttle if you use the settings provided. You can try to load some heavy apps and see if it reacts. Also the app CPUTest http://www.coolbook.se/CPUTest.html could be use to put test load on the cpu. mrroboto
it doesn't... i know because using photoshop it's slow as hell, don't need to test it out.. really. also the mhz range is still from 600 to 2000. i tried to download the debug version but the link in your site is dead. UPDATE: i tested the CPUTest. it does thorettle but after a long while and from 600 to 2100. nothing in between and really after a long while of full cpu loading. like 10 seconds. that's too much. in photoshop i need a more responsive cpu as it was 3 releases ago. I can confirm this. If I do anything to maximize the CPU (like "yes > /dev/null") it takes a long time (5-10 secs or so) to use the max multiplier. This is with T8300 (2.4Ghz). It sent a request for new state without changing to the new state. So it worked only when max threshold for jump to max passed. Uploaded a new version with that fixed! Superhai
There are a few changes, the kext is not trying to detect the fsb on its own, but depends on whatever OSX have, so you will need some external means to get the correct fsb. Which will mean that wrong fsb will not give the correct frequencies in the app, for core cpus this is purely cosmetic. It should not depend on acpi, but will get the max vid and fid from the cpu and min from table. eberts
Hi, I don't know, but somehow your kext version 1.0.2 is the only one that seems to be "useful" for me. That kext actually throttles my cpu by several speeds and voltages. It even overclocks it by 300 MHz if my system is under heavy load (which is fine for me if it is just for a short time). All other versions give me only two states (1998 MHz and 2664 MHz resp. 1037V 1112V) which is obviously not the whole "throttling range". The latest debug version doesn't give enough output, I'm afraid: Oct 21 08:32:35 localhost kernel[0]: GenericCPUPowerManagement: [Debug] Requested new p-state 061A Oct 21 08:32:35 localhost kernel[0]: GenericCPUPowerManagement: [Debug] Current p-state 3 with fid 6 p-state fid 6 Oct 21 08:32:35 localhost kernel[0]: GenericCPUPowerManagement: [Debug] We have loaded completely and ready for action Oct 21 08:32:37 smac kernel[0]: GenericCPUPowerManagement: [Debug] Current p-state 1 with fid 8 p-state fid 8 Oct 21 08:32:40 smac kernel[0]: GenericCPUPowerManagement: [Debug] Current p-state 3 with fid 6 p-state fid 6 Oct 21 08:32:43 smac kernel[0]: GenericCPUPowerManagement: [Debug] Current p-state 1 with fid 8 p-state fid 8 Oct 21 08:32:45 smac kernel[0]: GenericCPUPowerManagement: [Debug] Current p-state 3 with fid 6 p-state fid 6 Oct 21 08:32:48 smac kernel[0]: GenericCPUPowerManagement: [Debug] Current p-state 3 with fid 6 p-state fid 6 Oct 21 08:32:50 smac kernel[0]: GenericCPUPowerManagement: [Debug] Requested new p-state 061A Oct 21 08:32:50 smac kernel[0]: GenericCPUPowerManagement: [Debug] Current p-state 3 with fid 6 p-state fid 6 Oct 21 08:32:53 smac kernel[0]: GenericCPUPowerManagement: [Debug] Requested new p-state 061A Oct 21 08:32:53 smac kernel[0]: GenericCPUPowerManagement: [Debug] Current p-state 3 with fid 6 p-state fid 6 I don't know how to get as much output as you guys. It doesn't even show my cpu with dmesg... What am I doing wrong? Am I missing sth? Would it be an idea, to give us an .plist entry stepping which can be mobile or desktop ? mobile is as now, desktop has some changes in the min /max trotthle, means cpus gets more MHZ as lower cpu load (step up 10% load faster than mobile), and stay longer ast higher MHZ (step down 10% load slower) ? mitch_de
i get a kernel panic with the new version this is the snap shot for it if you need me to test more just tell me what i must do :-) sacaman ATOM CPU, Do you also get an KP with vanilla kernel insted of Voodoo Beta 2 kernel ? My opinion: The Intel ATOM CPU has an very low power consumption ( 1/5 - 1/10 of C2D!!) so speedstep it not really neaded for that great mobile cpu to get longer akku time. Display, HD/FlashHD , Mainboard, RAM together takes much more watts than the cpu itself.
