Nickhamm
I got to the video earlier today, but that videomo link has no video for me either. It is just blank. Also, typerlover, are the Catalyst Desktop drivers hacked to run on a laptop stable and are they causing any problems (such as over heating, ect.) because I have a Dell Inspiron Laptop that has an x300 Radeon Mobility and would like t try that out. abcslayer
If you could shadow the standard X1600 BIOS in RAM you can run the catalyst (maybe with some minor changes in the .inf because of the dev id) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11731-xp-on-an-imac-up-and-booting-no-joke-this-time/page/8/#findComment-76561 Share on other sites

Stratus Fear
If you could shadow the standard X1600 BIOS in RAM you can run the catalyst (maybe with some minor changes in the .inf because of the dev id) If that BIOS in any way performs an initialization process on the GPU, though, it could cause the VRAM to have incorrect timings, using frequencies out of range of the mobility gpu, and some such. Probably not a good idea... AirmanPika
Try this out for installing desktop catalyst drivers for the mobile versions of the graphics cards: http://www.driverheaven.net/patje/ Worked for me on my thinkpad, and this would allow for possibly a better drive to be used. Tried it but no workie Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11731-xp-on-an-imac-up-and-booting-no-joke-this-time/page/8/#findComment-76566 Share on other sites

abcslayer
Sorry I don't know how they can do that so I can only said in probably style. Change the timing table in the ATI BIOS is not very hard. (I have do that with mine (9550) not the x1k series but... you know x1k series have been OC easily) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11731-xp-on-an-imac-up-and-booting-no-joke-this-time/page/8/#findComment-76568 Share on other sites
John the Geek
OK, Here's my experience with the "Test Install" Fails every time after first Windows reboot. I get the Windows Color Icon at startup and once I choose it it flips upside down and then the system hangs forever. Pressing return again just restarts the machine. When I was choosing a drive to install NONE matched the provided instructions either. I had more partitions available, and only one was able to install XP, then that partition disappears forever from the Mac side and is no longer bootable via the Windows side. It might work on an iMac, but it fails on my MacBook. Any other testers confirm this? I'm not even sure where I'm supposed to offer feedback. I wish I had the email, but it's on a CD backed up since I blew the MacBook away and started over. You should head on over to our Testing forum at the Contest site's forum, where you can post the info and send it to blanka and narf. mathur999
Has anyone checked the Acer website in the support section for driver downloads. They have a lot of drivers for winXP for their Travelmate 8200 series. The series is almost identical to the MacbookPro ie. 945 chipset Core Duo T2500, WiFi a,b,g, bluetooth, ATI Mobility radeon X1600 with 256meg ram, USB2.0 Firewire, gigLan webcam etc... mathur999...
