Doing a system upgrade on another machine, I had a spare GT220 to play with: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127455

by most reviews (http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php), its supposed to be better than the 9500GT (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127419) I am currently using. (460 vs 361 on the passmark site) (FWIW, in case anyone wants to use this card, I plugged in the 220 and it came right up.)

But when I ran Xbench, I see (green is the 9500GT, red is the GT220)

Quartz 268.95 -> 191.70

OpenGL 187.51-> 151.08

any idea why the GT220 seems to be under-performing (vs. the 9500GT) with 10.6.3?

Hi All,

I'm a newbie to this forum and I'm in the middle of choosing a best notebook that runs SL fast. I searched the forum for several days and couldn't find information that I'm specifically looking for. The following are the notebooks I'm interested in:

Standard Specs:

CPU: Intel Core i7 820 (4 cores, 8 threads)

GPU: Nvidia GT330M, Nvidia GT 285M, Nvidia Quadro FX 880

1920x1080 or 19020x1200 Full HD

I'm not a gamer at all but will be using this notebook for HD editing and playing in the notebook itself or use the HDMI output to connect to my Panasonic T42S1 Plasma. I'm also planning to buy Panasonic TM700 1080/60p HD camcorder and edit the HD videos on the notebook. I also researched into the newly refreshed Mac Book Pros and they seem to be very expensive and does not have an option for a Blu-Ray drive.

The following are the specs:

Hello,

I just wanted to ask if anybody managed to get dual screen support running. I am using the Hazard SL release and everything works fine with 10.6.3. I have QE enabled ootb and I can also use 2 Screens but only in extended view. As soon as I try to go into the clone modus then I can only see on 1 screen the actual image. The other one is blue, showing me the mouse and the movement but it doesnt respond to any mouse click and so on.

Btw. I am using a Dual DVI 260 GTX.

Kind regards,

Valmar

hi,all

I have made my GeForce GTS 250 512M driven by nvenabler. But in System Information, it shown as Unknown Nvidia Card. So I wanna use EFI String to drive it. But I ran into a strange problem.

My EFI plist file is listed below:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

<plist version="1.0">

<dict>

<key>PciRoot(0x1)/Pci(0x1,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0)</key>

<dict>

<key>@0,compatible</key>

<string>NVDA,NVMac</string>

<key>@0,device_type</key>

<string>display</string>

<key>@0,name</key>

<string>NVDA,Display-A</string>

<key>@1,compatible</key>

<string>NVDA,NVMac</string>

<key>@1,device_type</key>

<string>display</string>

<key>@1,name</key>

<string>NVDA,Display-B</string>

<key>NVCAP</key>

<data>BAAAAAAAAwAMAAAAAAAABwAAAAA=</data>

<key>NVPM</key>

<data>AQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA==</data>

<key>VRAM,totalsize</key>

<data>AAAAIA==</data>

<key>device_type</key>

<string>NVDA,GeForce</string>

<key>model</key>

<string>NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250</string>

<key>name</key>

<string>NVDA,Parent</string>

<key>rom-revision</key>

<string>3172a</string>

</dict>

</dict>

</plist>

If I use nvenabler, everything works well. I can enjoy playing all games and effects. But when I remove nvenabler and use EFI string instead, the problem appeared. I can see my video card mode in System Information. I still can run my game (like Warcraft III) and I also can see the effect while adding a new widget into Dashboard. But everything become slow. And all fonts became thinner that usual. I think the QE/CI is not enabled, but in fact I CAN run games which need OpenGL... Is there anyone who can help me to solve this problem? thx very much!!

I'm a neubie and i have a problem installing it on a asus p6t se

i used this link

http://aquamac.proboards.com/index.cgi?act...&thread=509

my 3 questions are

1) is that enought or i have to install any kekst or other thing?

2)This guide says

you should now have a new file called out.hex on your desktop. Open this file with whatever editor you like it and it will have your new graphics string. Copy it and open finder and head to /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration and open up your com.apple.boot.plist. Under the last string, which is usually the......

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string>Yes</string>

mine is different

is

<key>Kernel</key>

<string>mach_kernel</string>

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string></string>

is there any error?

3) how can understand if qe/ci is installed and working?

thx in advance

I hope this thread will be of use to those having some trouble with CUDA because of failed driver injection...

I know the solution must be simple but searches of the threads have revealed little.

I just updated to a more recent Chameleon bootloader for Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 board using this excellent guide

http://www.efixusers.com/showthread.php?t=605

The main reason is that I am trying to get CUDA working with my EVGA GTX 285

The problem is that I can't get the Chameleon boot loader to inject the NVIDIA.ROM properly.

System profiler shows the rom version as:

ROM Revision: xx.xx.xx - internal

I have been trying to get chamelon to inject the EVGA rom (156k) with the following com.apple.Boot.plist

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

<plist version="1.0">

<dict>

<key>Kernel</key>

<string>mach_kernel</string>

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string>arch=x86_64</string>

<key>Timeout</key>

<string>1</string>

<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>

<string>Yes</string>

<key>VideoROM</key>

<string>/NVIDIA.ROM</string>

<key>VBIOS</key>

<string>Yes</string>

<key>Default Partition</key>

<string>hd(0,1)</string>

</dict>

</plist>

Any tips on how to get the rom properly injected?

Hi,

I'm currently using Chameleon-2.0-RC4-r684 (AsereBLN) with Snow Leopard 10.6.2. Dual booting with Windows 7.

I didn't bother upgrading to 10.6.3 because I need to replace my ATI Radeon HD 3870 which has become obsolete in Macland, because it cannot support OpenCL in hardware.

It could support QE/CI, but apparently these 2 somehow do not work on the PC version (they do on the Mac version of the card).

I narrowed down my selection to NVidia GTX 260, 275, and 285.

(I also checked in the ati.c and nvidia.c source files to see which card models were supported.)

I also looked at GTS 250 cards, which should be fine for my purposes, but GTS 250 is not listed in nvidia.c (the NVidia injector), so GraphicsEnabler will not work. And they also seem to come (predominantly) with 1 DVI-I port, and 1 D-Sub port.

Speedwise the HD 3870 is still OK for what I'm using it for, so all 3 GPU types will do me good.

I therefore have a preference for the GTX 260, but of the bunch these are the hardest to get, even second-hand.

What is important to me is that the card should :

  • work OOTB with "GraphicsEnabler=Yes"
  • have 2 fully working DVI-I ports (dual 30" monitor support or my old analogues; also see below)
  • support QE
  • support CI
  • support OpenCL
  • have reasonable future proof driver support in OS X

Basically provide a super snappy desktop experience without graphics glitches

A fully working DVI-I port to me means :

Dual-link DVI upto 2560x1600, and analogue upto 2048x1536. So both the digital and analogue signals should work. And on both ports at the same time.

I'm mainly programming, browsing, emailing, digitally drawing, digitally colouring and painting. I do not play games on the desktop.

The usual stuff.

I'm just not sure about the dual monitor support working (port and signal) in Snow Leopard.

So, do the Apple/NVidia drivers support 2 fully working DVI-I ports (as described above) on any of these 3 GPUs ?

I hope someone has a dual monitor setup with either of these cards, and can make a redcommendation.

Or, tell me which of these 3 cards will not support something on my shortlist.

Thanks

Well spank my ass and call me Sally!

Posting earlier got me motivated again to make this card (GeForce 210) work. Sure enough Once I dumped my own BIOS, ran NVCAP, created an EFI string using generic 512 setting and then remembered to disable Graphics Enabler by removing it from the com.apple.Boot.plist completely, the card is working perfect.

Helps to have a test/dev environment installed separate that is a mirror of my production drive so I could keep playing with it.

I also got 210, great to see that is working for you. Could you do little guide for newbie like me.

I had PC all my life, I don't know how to dump BIOS, run NVCAP and create an EFI string.

This is last thing I'm missing.

Thank you

Edit Nevermind I got it working after 10.6.3 update

I'm looking for a guide to installing GTS 250 on Leopard/Snow Leopard and getting it to work with QE and CI.

Thanks in advance.

Somebody can give me a working gts 250 1gb kext for snow leopard?

And i'm using the right EFI Device-properties string for my graphics card

Ok, I have finally got both cards to work with QE/QI enabled on a single EFI-String, but the problem is is that they can't both be running at the same time otherwise I get kernal panic...Any ideas?

Here's my Plist I compiled the string from:
