OSX only has support for a couple of kinds of SATA controller chips. If your motherboard doesn't have one of them, then SATA is not possible. A quick Google says your board has a Silicon Image 3132 controller. Silicon Image is not supported.

You need to find an ATA drive. A 20 GB drive should be able to be obtained for next to nothing.

- cannot see a battery meter - any ideas how to implement ACPI

thx

your guide fails to mention a compatible DVD drive is required... well, none of the guides point that out =) not that anyone cares.

umm...i didn't know that the DVD drive was a factor for getting osx to work. i thought that every DVD drive works.

anyway...

:D i want to thank everyone for answering questions, and congratulate those who are enjoying osx on their pc now :2cents:

by the way, i was thinking...

many people are asking the same questions over and over again, which makes this post painfully long to read.

i wanna edit the Q & A section in the guide so Rammjet and cbmkgd doesnt have to answer the common questions over and over and over again.

so, maybe you guys wanna write up some Q & A's and PM them to me?

the partiton with osx on it dose not show up in the acronis os selector even in the advanced settings

First, verify that you can boot natively into OSX. Boot the install DVD to where it asks you to hit Enter or F8. Go ahead and hit F8. You should see a list of your partitions listed. Select your OSX partition and hit enter to boot it.

Once you get OSX to boot that way properly, then go fix Acronis: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=206477

Has anyone found out any information on ShapeShifter?

I posted earlier in this thread with gui's that would not apply for some reason, tried the beta, still having trouble. If anyone knows any obvious fixes please PM me, I'd appreciate it greatly!

Thanks

Hi guys,

I've tried the 10.4.7 JaS DVD, but am having probs.

Stuck in a blank 20gb disk and rebooted with the mac DVD in. In the os x setup program I deleted the old PC partition that was on the drive, made a new mac journaled one, installed it all fine, then it rebooted.

I get the Darwin loader message and the hard disk thrashes for about 10 - 15seconds, and then I get a black screen filled with white text (don't get a chance to read it) which slowly fades through grey to black, with just a single flashing darwin line left at the bottom - can't do anything after that point, have to reboot and it does the same.

Anyone got a clue what's going on here?

It's a Dell Dimension 3100, with P4 HT, Intel GMA900.

I am not sure if I selected the right patches - the Intel Combo update, and the SSE3 patch, and the GMA900 one.

I've looked through this thread but can't see anyone who's had the same kind of error, help please!

Thanks

Boot in verbose mode and read error messages: When OSX boots, first the screen turns black and then grey with a spinning icon. As soon as the screen turns black, start tapping the F8 key quickly and repeatedly until a command prompt appears. Type -v at the prompt.

When OSX is the only OS on the drive, it is better to first format it all as FAT32 in a Windows/Linux utility and then in Disk Utility, format (erase) the main partition as MacOS Extended Journaled. The main partition appears below the hard drive icon in Disk Utility. The reason for this is that BIOS on a PC expects the partition scheme to be PC style MBR. Formatting as FAT32 first establishes that. Disk Utility on the install DVD can only partition as the Intel Mac style GUID.

Hi thanks for that.

It did have a FAT32 windows partition on it originaly and I did the erase thing you mentioned so hopefuly that's ok?

It doesn't get far as a 'graphics' style screen with any spinning icons, it's still in the B&W DOS / terminal style mode when it hangs. I'll give the F8 trick a go a report back, cheers.

For an SSE3 processor with 10.4.7 JaS what patches should I have installed?
