First I'd like to say thank you dilnalomo for the great tut. I followed the instructions exactly except for the activating Acronis OS Selector (didn't use it).

-I started off by using the "MACOSX_10.4.6DVDPATCHED_Myz.rar"

-Used DVD Decrypter to install to DVD

-Used Acronis Disk Director Suite 10 (awesome program) to make a 25GB "primary" (used logical the 1st time w/ OS selector... wasn't working)

Rebooted w/ DVD... DVD loaded Darwin... I got the white screen w/ grey Apple & loading icon (for ~4 mins). After this screen I got nothing but a blue screen DVD drive stopped working and HDD activity stopped!!!!!!

Tried again about 5-10 times total... finally got the language menu... 20-30mins later... finished install took DVD out restarted... got to Darwin OS selector screen chose Mac OSX got booting screens... then blue screen.

I looked for info on the forums and found out A LOT of people were having this problem. One solution use an external monitor. It worked but I was on a laptop and this was a no no. Looked at the forums again and found another solution. I took two little metal wires and stuck 1 wire on pin 1 & 6 on my VGA out the other on pins 2 & 12. looks something like this:

My laptop is a NC6120

My sound is pretty flakey. Buttons work and produce sound but doesn't really work. USB work and Firewire is detected (not sure if it works). WLAN not detected. Tried setting up my LAN but modem only detected :/

I followed the guide exactly and never edited any kext files or w/e. I'm a n00b when it comes to Macs, so I didn't wanna do something I didn't know how to do.

Once again thanks for the guide dilnalomo <('-'<) \('-')/ (>'-')>

Now I need a "How to use a Mac OSX" guide....

This is my second time installing it.(first time,follwed ur guide and everything works,well expect for internet,audio,graphic....10.4.4) Now when trying to install 10.4.6, the installation works fine but when they promote me to boot, I can't find the OS. Its sudden disappears. anyone know what happened?

Ok so I installed OS X 10.4.6 However...when i boot into OS X it goes directly to the grey Apple screen then loads and then it just hangs on a blue screen with a pointer (it moves...but is somewhat laggy) any suggestions?

My Specs are as follows:

Intel Centrino Processor 1.86 Ghz (MMX,SSE,SSE2)

2GB Corsair 5300 (333Mhz)

256MB Nvidia Quadro FX Go1400

80GB HD (20GB partition for OSX)

Intel Pro/2200BG Wireless

Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet

Conexant Integrated Audio

QSI DVDRW/+-R

Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 4000 (worked on setup BTW)

uhhh i think thats all you need if you need more system specs then just let me know

(... I used the disk utility in OS X setup and erased the partition and created a journalized mac os x partition)

Which is exactly what you are supposed to do

However...when i boot into OS X it goes directly to the grey Apple screen then loads and then it just hangs on a blue screen with a pointer (it moves...but is somewhat laggy) any suggestions?

What packages did you select on the Customize screen? http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...ost&id=4249

worked for me

I used the Myzer one and it worked. I have a dell E310, no special modifications to it. My audio doesnt work, but i think i can fix that. My usb wireless adapter doesn't work, but i expected this. Does anyone know where I can find drivers for usb wireless adapters?

Sorry about the first post i got a bit confused and thought the instructions were different, but they werent and i edited it, I selected the sse2, and wireless option the first time which is when it hung (and yes i tried putting the wires into my VGA slot...it did nothing, I even plugged a monitor to it and still the blue screen and nothing). Then I deleted the partition while in the OS X installer then re-installed OS X according to the tutorial...but this time I used the 10.4.6 Combo.Update, SSE2, and Wireless option...but the install errored and when I load up OS X I get the grey apple screen but this time when i let it stay on that screen for a while (about 2 minutes or so) a white box with a circle and a line through it shows up kinda looks like a warning sign or a error sign.

*EDIT* Nevermind The DVD I burned has an error in it...I'll just have to burn it once more, hopefully there is nothing wrong with the ISO. *EDIT*

I have installed everything and everything boots fine with darwin intill the following point is reached:

Login Window Applicated Started

Oct 1 19:44:36 localhost DirectoryService[55]: Launcged version 2.1 (v353.2)

AppleBCM440XEthernet: Ethernet Address (Numbers Here)

Anyone have any ideas how i can fix this?

Thanks,

Cltcam

I've followed this terrifc guide with a little change in my own protocols, things worked like a charm:

Spec:

Retail Dell 4550 with 768Mb memory, ATI 9800 Pro 128Mb

1. Burn a JAS 10.4.7 DVD

2. Use PM 8.0 to format a separate 8Gb (my retail Xbox hard drive, LOL) hard drive to FAT32, Primary

3. Detach my XP hard drive, retain my formatted 8Gb hard drive, and boot from the DVD

4. Install OSX as instructed, in my case I also installed the JAS Intel patches

5. Remove the DVD, boot into OSX, all things worked out of the box

Dual-boot:

1. Install both XP and OSX hard drives now. XP drive being the master, OSX being slave drive, both hooked to IDE0 via one IDE cable.

2. PC will now boot into XP.

3. Install Acronis OS selector under XP, restart.

4. Now you have dual-boot!!!

All in all I am very happy with the smoothness of the process.

Problems:

1. Mouse tearing and "box" artifacts in OSX.

2. Boots into 1024x768 automatically; I still need to modify the list file.

This is my second time installing it.(first time,follwed ur guide and everything works,well expect for internet,audio,graphic....10.4.4) Now when trying to install 10.4.6, the installation works fine but when they promote me to boot, I can't find the OS. alright, I was able to fix this problem myself. Now when booted, its stuck on this screen.

Any1 know whats the problem?

Alright, I've read this guide over, and looking at it, I can tll it's been comprehensively written, so I wanted to ask something since I have a problem that seems to have never shown up anywhere else.

(I can't find most of my hardware information easily - if you can, please tell me where I can find something that tells me information on my computer more than Device Manager.)

PC: HP Pavilion a1483w Media Center

Patches: Mac-OS-X-10.4.7-AMD.Intel-(JaS)-ISO-Repack

(INFO: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/documen...name=c00620031)

Motherboard: Asus A8N-LA (Nagami-GL8E)

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+: 2.20 GHz - supports SSE1, SSE2, and SSE3

RAM: 2 x 1024 MB DDR SDRAM

Hard Drive: 250 GB - 7200 rpm

External Storage:

-- 16X DVD(+/-)R/RW (+/-)R DL LightScribe drive

-- 7 USB

-- 1 Firewire

-- (copied from HP's site)

* Compact Flash I

* Compact Flash II

* SmartMedia

* Memory Stick

* Memory Stick Pro

* MultiMediaCard

* Secure Digital (SD)

* Micro Drive

* XD Picture Card (xd = extreme digital)

Partition Information: 40 GB FAT32 Partition - Primary / Inactive. Blank.

Problem: After booting up, Darwin seems to have said something about:

"Local APIC version no 0x14 as expected." <-- Yes, APIC - not ACPI or anything else. It stopped loading after several more rows of commands, but didn't display any error for its last few lines. If you need a screenshot, I can provide one if needed... I loaded both 10.4.7 (JaS) and they did the same thing - I couldn't even boot up to setup.

I have also attempted this on an Intel Pentium 4 computer - an older HP Pavilion. It was successful.

If there is any other information I missed that would be needed, please tell me so that I may provide it.

Thank you for your help! :blink:

Just like to say a big thanks to dilnalomo for the guide.

Took a while to install (worked better once reburnt at 2x to a DVD-R rather than a +R) but worked flawlessly following the information in this post. Certainly saved me from any troubles and now happily dual booting OSX and XP.

Used Jas 10.4.6 install DVD.

Machine is a Dell XPS M1210:

Intel Duo T2500

2 GB RAM

Geforce GO 7400

No speed issues with the Acronis startup or with the machine in general - seems as fast if not faster than my brothers Macbook.

Things that didnt work out of the box:

Network cards - Broadcom 440x and the Intel WIFI card - looking into this

Sound - Sigmatel audio

Graphics - seems to be partially recognised, no resolution options but fine at 1024x768 for the minute

RAM - OSX seems to have omitted 1GB of ram? Not sure how.

@silare:

You have an nf4 motherboard (a8n). Your drive is a sata (according to your link; put a space before the closing partentesis btw, otherwise the link doesn't work).

An annoying problem is that osx doesn't support well sata drives with nf4 boards, at least not for writing.

Don't know if it causes your particular problem (we would have to know what patches you selected in the customized install), but that sata problem you would surely have later.

So at least grab yourself a pata drive to put osx on for this amd system.

/edit: ok, your board's chipset is nf 430, so you might search if these have the same problems as nf4.

Hi all.On my ASUS A6Tc laptop wass dualboot OSX/XP successful.Everything runing fast.Acronis bootloader too

Configuration

MacOSX_10.4.6DVDPATCHED_Myz.iso

Turion 64X2 - ML50

512 MB RAM

100 GB HDD ATA

nvidia GeForce GO 7300 128MB - works after installing macvidia 1.08 driver

Realtec ethernet and wirreles card not working yet :happymac:

I am still having this problem.

Any one know a way to fix it?

Your picture is worthless. Can't read it - too small and blurry.

When you installed, what packages did you choose under Customize?

Thanks for replying. Its the same as this http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...ost&id=2821

I choose all the intel ones.

That picture just shows normal loading of kexts. It doesn't show any errors.

During installation, choose only SSE2 or SSE3, not both, depending upon the capability of your processor.

Ok i have done that, selected the sse3 one. Now when i go to boot it just starts booting me to xp. i tried doing the chain0 thing, ibt just is a loop, i go back to xp?

Remove the chain0 line from your boot.ini.

Then set your OSX partition active and reveal the OSX (Darwin) bootloader: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=201048

OK... So I need a PATA drive?

And at the same time... I also would need to look up my chipset since it's problematic?

Sorry for the confusion: I meant to say that if the nf430 is similar to the nf4, then osx might have the same problem concerning sata drives and you then would need a pata drive.

From searching a bit i've seen that at least one user has had such problems.

But since this isn't related to dual booting, you'd have more luck and assistance in the HomebrewMacs subforums here on InsanelyMac.

While I read about the first ten pages of this, I'm not gonna read the other 48 lol.

My biggest problem, is that i have a Dell Latitude 110L, which has the Intel Pentium M Processor in it. When I go to install ANY version of Mac OS X OTHER than the original 10.4.1, the dvd goes through the whole Darwin boot, but no installer pops up, just a blue screen, no mouse cursor, no nothin.

Is there a way that I could customize or change the image file before I burn it to DVD so that it will work with my Pentium M? I'm not muckin with my desktop as of yet, but I would like to have my laptop up an running with OS X.

here is what I'm working with:

OS X DVD: MacOSX_10.4.6DVDPATCHED_Myz

Laptop:

Pentium M 1.6ghz (SSE2, PAL, no SSE3)

512MB DDR 333 Ram

30GB HD

Toshiba DVD-ROM/CD-R Combo Drive

Got any ideas?
