I got it to Work

I used Mac OS X 10.4.6 x86 Install DVD (JaS)

Mac is now installed on my computer!

I have and Asus P4V8X-MX with a Celeron D 340

1gig of Ram PC3200

A 250 gig SATA Western Digital with windows and a Seagate 160 gig PATA

I got Mac all installed then it booted the only problem i had was after it booted and it updated when it got to installing the last update which was the 10.4.7 update it froze. So i have to reinstall it again.

Sucessfully installed MAC OS X 10.4.6 on the ASUS A3Vp:

PentiumM 1.73GHz, 2MB cache

2x1GB DDR2 533MHz

80GB 5400rpm HDD

ATI X700 mobility - working but not recognised

Sound card - working

Ethernet - working

All HW is fully working but WiFi is not working and integrated 1.3MPx digital camera is not working but is visible in the HW list.

ATI X700 required driver - HELP ME

Hey DILNALOMO, 1st congratulations about this tutorial. it's awesome.

sorry about my english. i'm from Brazil and i have to use an translator to some words.

I continue with some doubts on this installation of osx. I currently have in my PC 2 partitions, 1 of 30 gb and another one of 70 gb. both used for windows xp. i would like to know which procedure I must adopt to install osx. I must format everything first. I can install the OSX on of the c:\ partition directly? or it would be better to install it in another unit for example D:\.

after i made all the steps of the tutorial one and the DUAL BOOT is ok, how is the precedure to revert the system in future? with a complete formatting of the HD?

and about the ACRONIS? what i do with it later, when i dont want use this DUAL BOOT and back to windows only ?

sorry about this boring questions. but i`m afraid (affect my equipment).

thank you so much!!

hugs!

sad to report mine wasn't a sucess... :)

Ok installation freezes at this screen....

at first I thought it was because I was using a wireless kboard and mouse but after trying with a regular one it still freezes

by regular do you mean USB or a PS2 keyboard and mouse. My installation used to freeze when i was using a PS2 keyboard + USB mouse.

PS2 k and m...and yes! now I have MBR errors :D how do I fix that?

I installed it on a clean/empty HDD and I disconnected the HDD that had Windows and all my files in it...you know to avoid an accident and now it clicks and freezes from time to time...

I tried to install the Mac.OS.X.Tiger.10.4.6.X86-HOTiSO one...

Another success (count me in please!), My machine is as the following:

1. Dell PowerEdge Server SC400

2. ATI 9550pro

3. USB Wireless Mouse and Keyboard.

4. Intel 2.8GHz HT only supports SSE2

Here are some lessons I learned:

1. Make sure create the "Logical" FAT32 partition. OSX installation won't recognize the "Primary" FAT32 partition and it won't convert it.

2. Be very careful when choose the "Added-on" package, the first time I selected the SSE3 and OSX will always reboot the box during loading.

3. Acronis Disk Director Suite 10 is very helpful. It is a little bit slow but very useful. Make sure you make a Acronis boot disk which has all the Acronis on it. It's very easy to be done within Acronis Disk Director, just a simple click and you can make that powerful boot CD.

4. All the time after OSX installation is done, my MBR got messed up and I need to use Acronis boot CD to reactivate the OS selector. Then everything will be okay.

Good luck to everyone and waiting for the Leopard!!

Hello!

I have been downloading this ISO for about a week (( slow connection  )), and now I tried the install...too bad.. the Darwin Boot boots up, and a framebuffer grey background with a Power Down icon on it comes up, and it shows a dialougebox telling me to please reboot my PC. It says this in multiple languages.. I do it, and the same error repeats every time. I never get to the install. It has some <panic>, so the kernel isn't liking something :(

I am on this hardware:

AMD Athlon XP 1500+

512 MB Ram

nVidia Geforce FX5200

Any ideas?

PS2 k and m...and yes! now I have MBR errors :( how do I fix that?

I installed it on a clean/empty HDD and I disconnected the HDD that had Windows and all my files in it...you know to avoid an accident and now it clicks and freezes from time to time...

I tried to install the Mac.OS.X.Tiger.10.4.6.X86-HOTiSO one...

Try using a usb keyboard and mouse! (get them from someone, just to check).

MBR errors?

Try changing the first boot device to select the HDD containing OSX, or you can press F8 at startup to select the correct HDD.

Hope this helps!

When installing is done, OS Selector will ask you to restart, and after you restarting your computer, OS Selector will be active.

Uuuhmmm... I'm stuck riiiight here, lol...

I installed Acronis, installed the OS Selector and when it asked for a reboot, it does but it then hangs on

Starting Acronis Loader...
Pres ESC for menu...
Press F6 to skip menu...

It just hangs there... I press ESC and/or F6 a couple times and it just... stays there. Been waiting for around 10 minutes already. Only option seems to be to force boot off (power button)... so it then says:

Starting Acronis Loader...

Acronis Loader fatal error: Boot drive (partition) not found.
Pres <Enter> to try to boot your OS...

... and if I click Enter, it boots XP fine from there. What can be the cause of this? It's happened three times already. I'm sure that if I reboot now it will just show the same thing (...and it did!!!).

System specs, just in case they are needed:

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 Northwood, 2.60Ghz w/ MMX, SSE, SSE2, 800 MHz Bus Speed

Chipset: Intel i875P rev. 02 (manufactured by Dell)

2*256 MB Hyundai Electronics DDR-SDRAM PC3200 (I've got two Hyundais :D lol)

I ask this here since I am following the instructions for the native dual boot to see if I can get it to work with a 10.4.7 (JaS). My first OS X project, too! All and any help will be appreciated!!! Thanks!

[Added Note]

Put the DVD you burnt into your dvd drive, then restart. Do not boot the DVD from OS Selector! When your computer starts press F12 or whatever key it says on the screen to get boot menu. From there select the option to boot from CD-Rom. This should boot your install DVD.
Uuuhhhhh...... ha. I select CD-ROM from the F12 menu and... viola! Acronis wants to load again... so I end up rebooting and all that.

Hi all,

First of all I thank DIlanamo , Jas & All those at insanely mac for such a great work,

My Specs:

Intel P4 3.06ghz, HT , 915GAV intel original mobo, 1GB Transcend RAM

USB Keyboard & Mouse, Sony DVDRW, 80GB SATA HDD, On board Graphics/sound/LAN port

I had used XP, only working knowledge of computrs, medical professional

How I did it? Mac OS unpersonalized HD image (just 1.5GB dL at pirate bay)

I tried initially with Jas DVD 10.4.6 ISO , used to get struck at boot screen, twice screwd up XP partition, no need to reinstall XP as I am a BIG ACRONIS FAN !! used acronis true image server instead...

I Installed Acronis OS Selector & Disk Director suite Both initially !!!

partitioned the C drive for Mac in Windows platform with Acronis Disk Director Suite 10, I know no option to partition in AF in the Disk Director, but create a primary fat32 partition using the advanced 'convert; option in DD suite, convert it to Shag osAf format...

or else create an unpartitioned space for Mac by using disk part in CMD to format it to desired AF

transfer the image to the desired partition after unraring with Winrar & DD for Windows...

detailed guide can be found at (http://osxx86.orgfree.com) very useful...

once rebooted OS selector detected as Unknown OS & booted to MAc instantaeniously..

Safari, Final cut, Ilife 2006 all working just fine

LAN, Bluetooth, Audio Everything is working just fantastic.....

Thanks Dilanamo Excellent Guide!!!

3 questions 1. how to increase the size of primary partition of Mac as only 2Gb is left free, it asks for more space while DVD writing...

2. can Mac be installed on a Logical Partition???

3. any other way to dual boot? (chain didn't work) OS selector is slow... XP needs to be kept default OS

thanks in advance

1: there's a thread in the "OSX Installation" forum about such attempts; will try to find link.

/edit: links:

enlarging hfs+ partition

How do I Increase Partition Size?

2: installed, yes; workable? I know of no successfull osx there.

3: What didn't work with chain0? Anyways, you could also choose the darwin bootloader itself: disable os selector, make the osx partition active, and when you reboot the darwin boot loader lets you choose between the os'es.

Also, in acronis os selector, if you disable cd loading in the main options, this increases the speed (although not as quick as darwin loader nor ntloader)

Mac_OS_X_10.4.6_x86_Install_DVD_(JaS).iso

doesn't work for me

(Acer Aspire 9500, HDD is slave, DVD is master, 1Gb RAM)

./com.apple.Boot.plist cannot be found

always happened (tried different DVD disks, "-v" option didn't helped too)

? option doesn't display anything (same error behaviour)

rd=diskXsY (didn't helped too)

seems like some problems with Acer BIOS mounting DVD driver boot part

I did not use any additional software besides the 10.4.7 (JaS) iso. I did a similiar install a very long time ago ago with an early iso of 10.4.x. How?

When i installed XP months ago i left unallocated space available. Last night i used XP's disk management to create and format a primary partition(FAT32). I then booted from the OS X dvd, erased this partition using disk util, and proceded to install OS X. Hardware: IBM T40.

Only natch was the Darwin bootload immediately booting OSX. Pressing F8 will luckily bring up the boot loader and XP was more than happy to load.

I've posted here before with harddrive recognition (Sata) --

So I went out and got a small 60GB IDE HD, everything seemed to install smoothly, detected the drive just fine, installed - rebooted.

However, at this part:

"Press the Up or Down key to select your OSX partition and it will start booting with these crazy texts rolling up from the bottom of the screen"

This happens - the bigger gray text rolls up, however, when I get to the more sharp, small, white text, it seems to freeze.

Pictures attached:

Sorry for quality, only camera I had was the one on my cell.

I should also note, that I installed both the SSE2 and SSE3 patches for AMD - would this cause a conflict?

Alright - reinstalled with just SSE3, as well as the other patches I need, and I'm still getting stuck at that screen.

I looked at the boot options, such as -v, and hit ? for more. But all that was listed was some really odd looking characters, not a huge list of odd characters, but maybe just 10 letters. The 2nd page also had very little written on it.

Is -v safemode? I would like to try to boot in safemode but do not know the command.

I might as well throw this in, the name of the iso I used is: h-t1046.iso, Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.6 (x86). The size is 4.4 Gb.

Using the 'Wyz' 10.4.6 ISO, i could not get it installed on my machine.

The problem: I insert the burned ISO DVD and boot into it. (My BIOS boots from CD/DVD before HDD, so Acronis did not have a chance to load - so thats not the problem). The Grey apple logo on white background just sticks there looping forever - i even booted using the -v option to check the diagnostic lines - after a certain point nothing else happened.

Specs:

AMD Athlon 3200+ Venice 64-Bit (SSE3)

1.5GB RAM (3x512MB)

nVidia GeForce 6800LE

Abit UL8 Motherboard

Samsung Spinpoint 250GB PATA - Partitioned into 2 - 1 x Win XP, 1 x FAT32 Primary (20GB)

Pioneer 110D DVD Drive

If i go ahead and just install, say Ubuntu Linux onto the FAT32 partition, will the Acronis Boot Loader still let me boot into Ubuntu that way? I quite like this Acronis thing to the default Windows command line, and for me it boots pretty fast (6 seconds max).

PS. The error i get is the exact same as the guy above me... Drive used is a Master (only one currently set up).

PS2. I burned the ISO at 16 speed so i will try at 4 speed on a different DVD brand...

Hi!

I´ve this .iso file "MacOSX_10.4.6DVDPATCHED_Myz". But when i try to boot from this DVD i have this error:

"System confi file ´/com.apple.Boot.plist` not found!

Someone could help me?

My System:

-Conroe 6600

- P5B Deluxe

- Nvidia 7900 GT

The same DVD works fine on my laptop!

Can anyone tell me a bit more about the SSE2 and SSE3 patches?

I used the CPU-Z and here are my CPU specs...

I don't have PAE support but I do have SSE/SSE2/SSE3, so that should be alright, right?

Also, when people are saying apply the SSE2 or SSE3 patches, are those already included in the different .iso's such as 10.4.7 (JaS) or do you have to seperatly download them? Secondly, how do you know which one to get?

Thank you.

Amonsul - I have the same hardware and I got the same error.

I tried to go through Vmware as well, alternately on boot I get that error message or I see the Apple logo for a split second and then Vmware declares a fault and crashes.

Also did you try -v? When I do that the text is corrupted, it scrolls down in one single column on the left side of the screen and some of it looks like corrupt characters.

I also tried on a PIV 2.4c Asus P4PE system but that gives me a EBIOS error, and a track location that is apparently corrupt. Maybe my download was corrupt but the RAR file checked out okay.

I am downloading 10.4.6 now to see if that works.

Probably just doesn't work with this new fangled hardware though...oh well.
