Romaric
Hi there! I just found this thread and it sounds WONDERFUL! Thank you for this marvellous guide dude. I've got some questions before I try to install OSX on my computer. This is my results on CPU-Z, I can see SSE2 on the CPU, but it wanna be safe. Does it gonna work? Here are som screenshots. Picture 1 is on the CPU, Pic 2 the Cache, Pic 3 Mainboard, Pic 4 on the Memory and Pic 5 on something called SPD. These are my other computer-specs: AMD Ahtlon 64 3000+ 1024 Mb RAM ATi Radeon 9250 128 Mb 160 Gb harddrive (2 x 80) Logitech-mouse and keyboard I hope someone can help me I really want to run .mac Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11339-howto-xp-osx-1044-1048-native-dual-boot/page/32/#findComment-165224 Share on other sites
Jennifer
Rammjet... I have now installed the Hottiso 10.4.6 OSX just as you described, I can also say that boot now works but there is a few (many) problems. At start when clicking on the unknown OS actually brought me to windows xp. I right clicked and entered the properties and selected active for the osx partition. Then double clicked the OSX brought to the startup of Mac OS. However the startup wasn't the one i had earlier with the text running and is presented in this guide. See http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...ost&id=2821 I got the blue screen with apple logo loading. But anyway, after a very very slow startup, (very slow)... I finally came to the setting up Mac OS. After filling in the right information and clicking next (very slow), the startup of Mac Os finally finished and i could see the meny, desktop, the object desktop at bottom. Somehow a succes... But everything is really really slow, maybe it could have something to do with the two cpu:s? Anyway, trying to come to this forum with safari to write about the problem, i found out the internet connection (ethernet with cable) wasn't working. Settings didn't show any alternativ to fix this, probably the network card is not supported (Realtek RTL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Nic) Also the wireless connection wasn't presented to configure this, though I installed the patch for it (Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection) Sound is not working either (Realtek High Definition Audio) Webcam (which is inbuilt) The resolution settings is set to 1024x768, and in the settings the only choise to be made. (Should be able to go up to 1200x800) (ATI Mobility Radeon X1600) Bluetooth is though working (think so) But my biggest concern isn't all those, I know that this settings could be fixed later. My biggest concern is how slow everything is, especially the startup... and the internet connection so I could get the help I need directly without restarting to windows everytime. So, you think you could help me to start with the lastest written? Thanks alot / Jenninfer :censored2: Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11339-howto-xp-osx-1044-1048-native-dual-boot/page/32/#findComment-165464 Share on other sites

Nobody has found a solution for the Realtek 8168 or Intel 3945ABG. You will need to purchase a compatible USB wireless dongle. Check the compatibility lists in the wiki: http://wiki.osx86project.org To test your question on the dual cpus causing slowness...when you first boot up, the screen turns black and then goes to grey. Immediately after it turns black, start tapping the F8 key to get to a command prompt. Enter "cpus=1" (without the quotes) and press Enter. (sound familiar?) i had already read your earlier post about this and tried hitting f8 with no result... but i expected the command prompt to come up immidiatly... (wrong?)... As soon as the black screen pops up, start tapping (quickly and repeatedly, not just once) the F8 key to get the command prompt. If you get the grey screen, you were too slow and need to try again. Gym
First off, I want to say that this thread (and the whole project, really) is fantastic. My Dell E1505 should be in tomorrow, and I've already read on this forum that it's a great laptop for OSx86. I've got my dvd burned and ready to go, and I'll be sure to post my success/failure tomorrow evening. I do have a quick question though (about chain0). If I get OSx86 loaded up and working with a dual boot of XP, can I later reformat the XP partition and use chain0 to dual boot? I've got the Acronis software ready, but after I reinstall windows, I'd have to reinstall that software too. I'm thinking that it'd be easier just to use the chain0 method, though. Thoughts, comments? I'll be checking back tomorrow! Yeah, I knew you didn't have to reformat to get chain0 to work, but I was asking if it'll work after I my XP partition. The steps would go something like: -setup to dual boot following the guide in this thread -get an xp disk and reformat my xp partition -reinstall windows xp -use chain0 to dual boot I think that should work. Bathwater
Hello all. I have a question. I followed the guide and it froze on the grey screen with an apple. So I rebooted and did the advance startup and it froze on this codeline "BSD root: disk1s3, major 14, minor 4". Any clues on what it means. Im running Amd athlon 64 3000 1.5g ddr 400 Ati radeon 9600 Soundblaster audigy 2 zs also I ahve heard Mac does not support ps/2 mice and keyboard. I happen to have a ps/2 mouse and keyboard, do you think that could be the error? Any information would be very appreciative. Thank You.
