i just got the wholesetup working though i forgot to install any patches but i might not have had to since it is all working fine.

iso :MacOSX_10.4.6_GoatsecxDVD.iso

computer:

compaq x1000

1.5Ghz banias

512 megs ram

60 gig hdd

ati 9200 mobile

intel lan

sound, video, and network work fine. didn't try wireless.

problem: i have my one drive partitioned as winxp | macosx | ntfs storage partition

osx doesn't mount the third partition automatically though it does mount my winxp part. when i tried to

mount it using the graphical mount program it did nothing. any ideas? i am not fluent in unix command line or i would have tried manually but i couldn't find a good explanation of all the switches and such needed to correctly mount in terminal. also, has anyone figured out how to run dual monitors or at least set the vga connected monitor on a laptop as the primary display?

thanks,

mike

You are AMAZING :D ! Just installed using this tuitorial and help from the OSX86Project.org sorting out the patches and now my machine is up and running with only a few hickups (due to me being a first-timer).

USB2: works great!

ISO: osx104installdvd.dmg.iso

I haven't tried the sound yet, but in System Profiler it doesn't give any information. Also, I haven't tried the Firewire. Will repost when I tackle these issues.

I partitioned HDD #1 in half, putting XP on first partition and OS 10.4.6 on the second. Acronis is a bit slow, and it takes time for OSX to go through boot up, but definately worth it! HDD #2 is used to store other files on and can be written to by both OS's. I've been waiting for a machine like this for years!! Add one more to the Success Counter!!

Using the 'Wyz' 10.4.6 ISO (...)

If i go ahead and just install, say Ubuntu Linux onto the FAT32 partition, will the Acronis Boot Loader still let me boot into Ubuntu that way? I quite like this Acronis thing to the default Windows command line, and for me it boots pretty fast (6 seconds max).

I guess you meant "Myz", not "Wyz".

As for Ubuntu, if you want to install it and still keep Acronis OS Selector, use the Alternate cd, because it seems the regular ubuntu install cd/dvd doesn't allow installation of grub to the boot sector: it will take over the mbr. They made a special alternate install cd for "advanced" uses which should be available on distro's ftps, and which allows for installing in a way that aoss can manage.

But if you'd like to use ubuntu's grub instead of aoss, then its ok.

@saucehelmet

Does it matter if the HDD you install OSX on is a Slave or Master

If you use aoss, you can configure it to make this second hd the main hd. Select the osx icon and click the Properties button; in the properties dialog, choose Disks, and there you'll be able to select the disk boot order.

Otherwise, you could go in bios (or use some f-key if your mb allows this) to select hd order, at least to eliminate possible causes in your problem.

(I assume here you've made sure your osx is in a primary partition -- some partition tools create logical partitions by default even if there's nothing else on the drive)

Success! thanks for the guide.

Hello!

I have been downloading this ISO for about a week (( slow connection  )), and now I tried the install...too bad.. the Darwin Boot boots up, and a framebuffer grey background with a Power Down icon on it comes up, and it shows a dialougebox telling me to please reboot my PC. It says this in multiple languages.. I do it, and the same error repeats every time. I never get to the install. It has some <panic>, so the kernel isn't liking something

I am on this hardware:

AMD Athlon XP 1500+

512 MB Ram

nVidia Geforce FX5200

Any ideas?

its doin that cuase amd atholon xp doesnt support SEE2 or SEE3 just SEE

I have a G5 and install osx 10.4 with a mac mini DVD... And you know what ? I couldn't directly (it tests the hardware). So I had to change the kernel and make a few things to make it works (copying some old files from my osx 10.3 install to the 10.4 and install the new system with pacifist).

I think it's the same with the patched DVD's. They work on that machine and not on this, because they came from different original Apple DVD: mac book, mac book pro, emac or yet mac pro. 4 different hardwares, four different DVD (and drivers in it).

The best thing that could happen is to release separetely the original DVD and the patches.

I'm quite sure that the instal DVD for mac book pro would work fine with my hardware...

I GOT IT UP AND RUNNING FIRST TRY.

1. The copy I used was MacOSX_10.4.6DVDPATCHED_Myz.

2. My specs are:

Intel Pentium 4 630 3.0ghz Processor

200gb SATA HDD

ATI Radeon X800 XL Video Card

1024mb DDR2 RAM

3. I'm still working on getting the audio and networking to work but everyting is running great.

Hi

thanks again for the timely reply...(even the Mac customer care wont be this prompt)

I am following the suggested thread for increasing the HFS+ partition, meanwhile I created another partition using Jas DVD & I am installing all the programs into that Drive No iimidiate probs..

The Chain0 method did not work , it works only when u make OSX partition active, but then it boots to OSX as default & not WIndows.. So if you make Windows partition active chain 0 option of Mac Os tiger boots into the same screen to select the operating system, untill win XP is booted, but never it boots into Mac OSX why??

For Dual booting Itried installing GRUB(suse 10), Lilo(Red Hat & Mandrake) & with Xandros Desktop OS no success as bootloader does never boot into OSX. OS Selector is the only ways but too slow...

any suggestions...

With chain0 method, when you select osx, rapidly press F8 key, and you should see the darwin boot options (including winxp!); select osx and boot. Later you can change the time the darwin boot options stay before the default boot.

As for making aoss faster, in the acronis boot menu, in the options, disable the cd booting. Its a bit faster, but not like eg darwin bootloader.

Have you tried using osx's own darwin bootloader to do the job?

I got it to work using: 10.4.6 generic image (doesn't really say who) with a p4 2.8 northwood, asus p4p800, asus ati 9800xt.

I kept getting a root error at the beginning but to solve it I changed the little jumper selectors in the back of my hd and dvd-rom from primary and slave to "both" cs. Took me about 4 days to figure it out, lol. Absolutely great guide.

Confirmed successful install using these instructions using the MacOSX_10.4.6DVDPATCHED_Myz ISO on my TOSHIBA TECRA M5.

I used this helpful post http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...73&hl=tecra to work out what extra options to use when booting the install DVD as this laptop model has Intel Centrino Duo and I believe 1 CPU must be disabled.

Only remaining problem is at the moment I cannot boot OSx86 dispite it being the ACTIVE partition. Need to boot using the OSx86 DVD at the moment. I have posted here http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=26246 to see if there a way to solve this....

Thanks for all your hard work in this post!

Just to make sure: how did you make your partition active?

There's a method here if you want to try another way to do that:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=22844

And when you reboot, what is the error message? Want to make sure it's from your BIOS or from the darwin bootloader.

Welll I am downloading the MYz ISO very slow taken 2 days so far now 74% hope it's worth it !

Am I going to be ok with my 3.06Ghz HTPC and my Asus P4S533-X motherboard ? I have another patched mac ISO but get the no entry sign after a few mins so hopefully all will be ok with the Myz ISO ?

Can I not use it to simply install with out dual booting as I have a spare 80GB HDD ??

can you rephrase this? i dont understand.

as for your hardwre, you can check the wiki to see if it is supported.

I know this is the stupid question, but I really want to know:

Have any ways to use MAC OS and Windows XP in the same time?

I mean we can change together between them like U change between the difference users in Windows XP? (When U are working with this one, the another one still work and waiting for choossen?)

(sorry for my bad English)

@graphicDesign:

I guess you mean like when we log-off a user of Win2k-XP and quickly log-on another user?

Well in this case we have to compare with a multiboot between WinXP and, say, a Linux distro: we need the reboot between the native installs. Fortunately booting on osx (and linuxes) is quick.

If you just want to transfer files, you could use TransMac for windows to access hsf+ partitions, or osx can just read/write FATxx partitions and read NTFS partitions.

But if you really want them to be both on at the same time, an alternative would be to access your native osx install through building a virtual machine (with vmware), even if you didn't do the vmware-to-native kind of install; but osx is slow working in vmware.

One of these days Parallels will be able to access a native windows partition, at least I hope so, and you could do the above through osx.

Apart from that, I don't know how else to answer your question; we'll have to wait better virtualisation technologies (xen and xen-alikes) that will come with newer intel and amd multi-cores. Then we might be able to have multiple parallel native installs between which we could simply switch... at least that's what we're being promised. Others better informed than me can tell you about this.

Nice, thanx dilnalomo, thanx a lot for your effort...been reading a lot these past two days, first i downloaded an unknown(at least i donno who made it) osx86 dvd iso v10.4.4 and had no success...i will try with the 10.4.6dvdpatched_myz and report back....

i don't know if this was useful or not, anyone got a suggestion?

In the Wiki's Hardware Compatibility List for the Dell Latitude D505, two people reported problems with the IOFireWire kexts. So I suggest searching this forum for this particular problem.

The OSx86 Wiki and this forum (with its search engine, or through google's search on this forum) can be very usefull for digging out such informations. It won't solve all the problems, but at least it can eliminate possible causes.
