If we could all get a dime for every lawsuit Apple has gotten in just this year alone...well...we wouldn't be rich, but you get the point neverthless. The latest in the series, is related to the iPhone keyboard, in which SP Technologies is accusing Apple " to pay royalties for the 'willful and deliberate' infringement of a patent Apple used illegally for the iPhone's keyboard".

As if that wasn't funny enough; because the claim in the lawsuit was already present in the Newton, a decade before this lawsuit, so this is nothing more than an attempt at gold-digging in Apple's deep pockets:

    Furthermore:

An update to the reknown Parallels Desktop for Mac 3.0 has entered the beta phase and will be available free of charge and support to all current owners of Parallels Desktop for Mac 3.0. Lately, the competition between Parallels Desktop and VMWare's Fusion has been quite fierce, with both companies trying to flog their product as the best solution for virtualizing Windows on Mac OS X. As a result, the regular release of beta stage updates have resulted in a metaphorical "arms race" for the coolest and most useful features.

Here's what Parallels' new update has to offer:

Coherence integration with Expose , allowing Windows windows to be fully decored with Mac OS X effects and integrated seamlessly with the window management environment of OS X.

Image tool returns refreshed with the capability to undo all changes made to a session via the Undo Disk option. Additionally, virtual disks can be easily expanded and converted between plain and expanding disk types.

Parrallels' Explorer file manager utility can now not only explore the contents of virtual drives with the virtual machine powered off, but also while the virtual machine is suspended . Proceed with caution when doing so.

iPhone syncronization support for Outlook on Windows XP and Vista , allowing you to interface your iPhone with your virtual machine.
Last but not least, as is expected with all pre-release software: don't depend on it in a production environment, don't expect official support, make sure to RTFM, and have fun testing.

We all know that Mac OS X is based on BSD Unix, however, up until Leopard, Mac OS X was just "Unix-like". It looks like Apple has put more effort into the Unix roots this time, as The Open Group has awarded Leopard UNIX 03 certification, meaning Apple joins the ranks of Sun, HP and IBM as the only certified vendors. The spec covers numerous parts of the Unix system, but if an OS is compliant, it means that software vendors can easily port server and non-GUI apps to and from OS X.

It's good to see that Apple is sticking to, and using OS X's Unix roots to their full advantage.

Aluminum iMacs. Slim keyboards. These are two rumored products that have been flying around the Mac community in light of an upcoming update to Apple's Mac product line. There has been speculation about when these products are due, but there's no major Apple event coming up in the roster within the next month, right?

Wrong. Engadget reports that the great Steve Jobs will be giving a mini-keynote to the press on August 7th to introduce a new Apple iMac. Yes folks, this is it. The first major Apple product design update since the transition to Intel processors.

Be sure fire up your browsers with auto-refresh pointed at the Apple Store website on the morning of the 7th.

This one coming from AppleInsider, states the preparation of OS X 10.4.11 by Apple. They (Apple) seek to seed the pre-release build to developers in the future.

    However:

Most likely a typo, but neverthless a humourous find. There have been numerous issues still unresolved from the 10.4.10 update, and many individuals are experiencing worse problems than from 10.4.9, so hopefully Apple will seek to eliminate all of these problems on the next update.

Recently; the guys at iPhonelogy, after tampering with the iPhone's firmware, found some very interesting hidden gems. One of them came as a total surprise, since the iPhone's hardware does not even support the feature:

    Apple iWork..08'?

    By EFI, in OSx86,

It's very rare to see a company do an accidental slip-up on their website, and if you are one of those individuals who happened to be there at that very second (or however long before the company covers/changes the info)... it feels very exciting; even more so, when this "leak" comes from Apple, a company that is so secretive about any and all future developments, that the CIA could appear to seem as being more open.

The latest slip-up, however, is regarding iWork 08. Today, Apple's start page, read this:

Shortly after, the content was edited to show just Keynote. Whether this was an accidental leak, or simply a plain typo, will never be known, until, of course, the next suite of iWork is actually released.

Already bored of the pre-installed ringtones on your iPhone? Yep, well bitSplit has heard your cries and released this funky new app; iFuntastic 2.0.

Check it out! It not only lets you manage your ringtones, but you can also re-order the apps on your iPhone's Home screen as well as change the carrier logo. Not bad, huh? And the price is right too: free.

    Mac OS X Leopard 9a499

    By EFI, in OSx86,

Apple seeded the latest developer build of OS X eariler on this week, and things were different from the last version, most importantly (among many) were the numerous UI changes in the OS.

    Main

    1. The dock seperation graphic - the seperation graphic now resembles a zebra crossing, contrary to the previous simple line seen in previous versions and in Tiger. Don't worry, it looks much better than the description.
    2. Polished menubar icons - icons are now more polished to match more evenly with the translucent menubar from the previous builds
    3. System Preferences icon re-design - the system preferences icon is now re-designed to mimic the style of the settings icon used on the iPhone GUI.
    4. Finder "Show Path Bar" option - Finder now has the ability to visually show the path of the location of a file.

    Other

    5. Revamped "Users & Groups browser".
    6. Integrated support for Google Talk in iChat.
    7. iChat new view options.
    8. More options when right-clicking the Finder icon in the Dock.
