One Year of OSx86

sHARD>>

It was one year ago today that Steve Jobs announced the transition to Intel-based Macintosh computers during his WWDC 2005 keynote, ending years of Marklar rumors and speculation. It closed the era of the PowerPC, and ushered in a new period for Apple, one with Windows on Macs, standard PC hardware, and increasing sales. Even with all the fanfare, we could never have dreamt exactly what these changes meant: the death of the PowerMac, OS X on normal PCs, and the fastest Macs on the planet. Whether it's "Macintel", "Mactel", or "Intel Mac", it stirred a world of discussion - and publicity - for Apple. Jobs picked a fitting day for such an announcement, drawing comparisons to D-Day, a battle which turned the tide against the Nazis during WWII. Will the Intel Mac turn the tide on the commodity PC maker? We'll have to wait and see.

Here's to a year of Intel Macs.

When I found out, I was talking to my Youthgroup leader, who incidentally owned a PowerBook G4, and we were talking about computers, etc...

MY DREAMS OF INSTALLING MAC ON MY PC GOT A RAY OF LIGHT WHEN SJ ANNOUNCED THE RELEASE OF MAC OS X FOR INTEL.

THEN OF COURSE WHO CAN FORGET THE FIRST INSTALLMENT OF APPLE MAC OS X(SPECIAL THANKS TO DEADMOO)

WHO STARTED IT ALL.

THEN THERE WERE A NUMBER TECH WEBSITES COVERING THIS NEWS.

BUT THIS ONE IS TERRIFIC.

Great going " osx86project.org"

This site definitely helped me in the whole process of learning.

AND THE BEST ONE The FrontPage News, which continously updated on the progress of Mac an other related stuff, it is through that i have learned so muchh!!!!!

AND ABOVE ALL MY FIRST INSTALL WAS COMPLETED BY 4:00 AM, AND THE RESULTS WERE WAY ABOVE EXPECTATIONS, THAT MY MACHINE WOULD EVER BOOT SUCH A BEAUTIFUL OS ONE DAY.

GR8 GOIN osx86project.org , MASH(The Admin) and all the MODS.

Beware unintended consequences. Apple moving to x86 lead to hacked OS X running on a variety of PC's. The Hackintosh may unintentionally push Apple to release OS X for PC's in general, not just their own high-priced designer hardware. Consumers being advertised a choice of OS will then be more inclined to consider Linux.

Steve may bring down Bill, but at a cost of a pox upon both their houses...

1 year, wow. I have a story even Mr Jobs would like.

I was so excited the first time I installed 10.4.3 on my compaq laptop

I then rushed out and built a dual core machine with genuine intel motherboard and it ran 10.4.6 flawlessly.

I then sold the laptop and purchased a macbook all within 6 months.

Sometimes I wonder if this hack was all done to get people talking or switching, either way I am forever converted.

I heard about the Intel switch from a friend and then immediately thought about OS X running on "beigebox" PCs. Searched for a while, and found this site. Been here ever since. :hysterical:

Cant remember how i stumbled on this site but from then on i was hooked and so happy it could run native... i was so desperate to run it on PC hardware i used PearPC... the thing that made me sick was some Hawian Dude Ripping of PearPC and Selling it, guess he didnt make much sales after word of it running native got around.

Anyway, thanks to this site and its staff.. i love ya all.

Lol, AMDProphet, i beat you by one Day on joining the site.

Cheers to 1 year!!! I remember putting 10.4.1 on my dell laptop and shocking a few 'apple snobs' (NOT THAT ALL APPLE OWNERS ARE SNOBS BUT THESE 4 PEOPLE WERE!) @ a friends office building. You can imagine their faces when the apple boot screen loaded on my dell. Here's to good times, and many more to come!

My quest for a Macbook: $200/$1289 saved = 15% towards goal!

Hi All:

I started late in the game by joining this forum (around February 2006) after I heard that Apple was going to use Intel chips.

I started by installing OSx86 10.4.1 (DeadMoo's) image on one of my Dell Desktops. Eventually, I was able to install on my Dell Inspiron 1150 Laptop.

Eventually, I broke down and bought custom-built PC (primarily based on specs from OSx86 Hardware Wiki - Thanks so much to OSx86Project!) The PC runs 10.4.5 and fully supports graphics (QE/CI) using GMA 900, sound, networking and even wireless (NetGear PCI).

OSx86Project has been a great resource for learning and keeping informed about all things Intel/Mac. Thanks for doing a great job.

I remeber last summer, getting my hands on the first installable OSx86. Back then, this community was relatively small, Maxxuss was a local legend, and there was the feeling around that OSx86 would become limitless...

Oh yeah, and I still remember the debugging phases for the patched CoreImage files for 10.4.1. You know, the color banding on the menus and such? Ah, good times. :(
